Here in NY we are currently getting hammered with a snowstorm. 

 

With all this snow coming down I'm really missing the summer months up here in the Northeast, I recently drove past my Fishing holes for bass and of course they're all frozen.

 

To all the Anglers who are frozen in how do you guys handle the winter months? (Besides ice fishing hahaha) 

 

As for me right now I'm taking full advantage of the Tackle Warehouse sales for black friday and cleaning my equipment.

Hey fellow NYer. I’m in Western NY and same weather. I was just out fishing last week in my kayak but I think I’m done till spring. This will be my 1st winter so I have no idea what to do. What really sucks is it’s my slow season so I’m just sitting around the house surfing the internet so I’ll probably just spend money on more stuff.

I'm in northern Michigan.

May not see open water again until mid- April or even early May.

In the mean time, I'll service my reels, clean and organize my rig & my tackle.

Additionally, over the long winter, I aim to keep both me & my dogs, in shape.

I've already restocked the ole tackle box, charged the boat battery and hung up the the fishing rods.......I never service them. Lol

 

I cut wood most of the winter and help my brother with the sawmill but will admit......can't wait til spring as nothing I'd rather do then bass fish.

I always thought ice fishing was crazy but honestly, I like it as much if not more than fishing  out of my boat and look forward to the first hard freezes every year.  
 

Have someone who knows what they’re doing take you out and you might find that you have a whole crap-ton more fishing stuff to buy.

I started building lures.

Truthfully, having gone fishing nearly daily since last winter I kinda dread the inevitability of ice at some point. Fishing's a habit and habits are hard to change. I'm on borrowed time and still fishing (and catching) at this point. If we lock up I guess I'll just work more hours (painting) and just pretend I'm fishing. I've been known to practice cast with snow on the ground.

Ohhhhh Bassman....hope your not on my kind of borrowed time.

As a youngster we used to go to Chataqua lake in the winter and hammer crappie through the ice.  It was always a lot of fun.  Caught the occasional bass and muskie on tip ups.

? So they pull you to the turn around spot then you pull them back?? 

Oh, travel bassin' keeps me going. Likely hit FL and CA. Maybe TX.

And make plans for summer trips!

 

In-fact, just mapped out a plan to stay in Detroit and fish Lake St. Clair in the spring.

I do a lot of woods walking , some small game hunting and if the weather is mild and the ground not frozen , I'll do some metal detecting .

I do lots of fly tying, I have a business specializing in ice flies.  When it's safe, and when I have time, I get out on the ice and drill some holes.

It was 46 today. 
I called in.

School was cancelled.

We put actual wood into this hole built into the wall evidently called a chimney.

Neighbors dog had frostbite. 
 

70 by 3pm and all is well.

On busy days when I can’t dedicate boating time but still want to get out for a couple of hours, I leave the boat at home and fish my local lake, walking the trails and jumping in at good spots.  I noticed a pattern though, I lost a couple of pounds!   So if the lake does eventually freeze?? (SE Pa) I’m going to continue to just hike around the lake a couple times a week.  We all love the bite but I’m sure most would agree, we love just being outdoors.

I've been known to dabble a little in running a website....and perhaps run a few social media channels....and make an occasional video. 

Dad used to say...It's just good to be out here"  But Dad never caught many fish.....but he was a good man.  Didn't matter whether it was rain, ice, snow or sun.

Trout fishing in the stocked ponds, fishing in pond 3 minutes from my house, catching fish.  Love those trout not going to stop fishing till the ponds freeze over which is never here in central N.C.  Woo hoo going to the bass expo next month spend some money, going to a tackle and hunting flea market this month to sale my extra fishing stuff so I can buy more stuff.  Collect fishing gear in winter if possible. 

I’m in Minnesota and honestly I don’t stop fishing till the season ends or the weather gets to cold to fish. There’s open water around, but the trick is getting a bite. I’m not out to get a bite, just rather be out fishing. I’m really looking for a cold water crankbait. 

i just watch you tube and pray that i will still have my sanity by spring?
