You guys have never used your pliers to remove a hook from the fish and released the pliers back into the water while still holding the fish?

I don’t know about brain farts but I’ve had some regular farts while rigging. Over the years you learn they can’t be trusted.......

At any moment. ...thought I was losing it . Really made me happy that I'm not the only one . A great example ..remove lure , select new lure , grab line and tie on same lure that was on ..lol

My biggest brain fart is my fingers. 

 

I have the dumbest fingers in the world. I cannot tie knots for ****. I mean I know how to tie them. I use an improved clinch, palomar, and alberto knot. However it takes me a while to tie them because my fingers do not do what my brain tells them to do with any sort of quickness.

I did this not once but TWICE in one day a few days ago.  Brand new hair jigs...gone.  I left after the 2nd one.  Figured I'd wind up hurting myself if I was gonna be THAT absent-minded

That's my favorite, too!

 

I throw and lose a LOT of the old H&H Spinner baits.  Of the hundreds I've used over the years, I don't think I have EVER put the hook on right side up on the first try.  I'd hate to guess how many times I've screwed up, taken the hook off, confused myself and did it wrong AGAIN.  Love those things but they sure as heck confuse me!

Lost a limited edition color megabass oneten after getting greedy with a cast and backlashing. Mine is when threading line on a rod, I'd miss the eyelet, and put the line through the foot. Not fun when you go to cast a 3/4 oz bait with a top hook and have it come flying back at you. And yup, done that more than once... 

I was out on a small lake not too long back rigging a Neko bait up.  I was just hearing the shrink wrap to get it tight around the craw and hook when a paddle boarder that I had heard coming up asked for directions back to the landing.  I started speaking, and when I felt heat on my fingers, let go of the button on the lighter, but didn't look down.  A few more seconds into my directions, she said "Your fishing thingy is on fire."  It sure was!  My embarrassment doubled as I realized that the reason for my distractedness surely had something to do with the fact that she was probably in her early 20s and looking absolutely fabulous in the tiny bikini she was wearing.

I think I did the "forget to open the bail" thing three or four times before I realized, DUH, just open, remove, replace and close! Funny how when we've got a mind full of the "important" stuff, the simple fixes totally escape us.

Another personal favorite of mine, I'm sure you all can relate. 

 

 

Buy a new reel, get it all set up, take it out on the first outing and get that first bite... And the drag is still set at 0 from the factory and you've got this dumb look on your face. 

I may need to go get checked out by a dementia specialist after reading this thread.  I have done every one of the mistakes already listed, plus, put my real on backwards.  One time I even completely forgot my rods at home.

I  did that today , LOL . Tried out a brand new reel and couldnt reel the first fish of the season in  .

That and put a Beetle Spin   harness on backwards .

Ever launched a frog out on to a mat and forget to click it out of free spin and then set the hook HARD on an immediate blowup and caused the biggest backlash the world has ever known?  Yeah...uh.....me neither.

I've done that while jig fishing, had a fish hit it on the fall after the cast and schwacked it... ?

Did this last week and had a double brain fart. Cut the lure off to fix it and got to running my mouth. Retied the lure without fixing the problem
