Problem is...with the snow on top, it'll insulate the lake so the ice will form slower.

I know.  That part sucks but the more white the better.  Hate that the lake isn't solid, but ice fishing is boring as snot so I focus on other winter sports.

It's 55 degrees here with wind gusts to match today.

Got out today and it was 70 degrees here in Virginia.  That’s crazy.  We also had really heavy winds but the bite was good.  

Now the temps are in the high 20's, still got the wind...

That area isisn't too far from me but I haven't actually fished any of them yet. My usual favorite spots are all about a hour away. Emerald Lake (small lake, difficult but often rewarding fishing), Lake St Catherine and Lake Dunmore. I've been to Ricker Pond which is about a hour east of Waitsfield. Caught a large number of small bass when I was there nothing big although my kid lost a very good one - and the water was 83-84 degrees too so that's not too bad but it's definitely a beautiful location.

There is a tornado watch out today for southern MN.  Thunderstorms are also predicted this evening.  If a tornado does actually touch down in Minnesota today, it will be the first tornado this state has ever recorded in the month of December.

Man, it’s been a year for tornados. A few weeks ago we had 6 roll through. 
3 or 4 in September. 
We hardly ever get them.

Well no tornadoes that I’m aware of. Wind gusts reached 40-50 mph here and it poured rain for almost an hour. More like a summer thunderstorm in December.

 

Coulda used that rain in June or July.

That's weird...I could have sworn I read that Southeast MN reported their first ever tornado in the month of December?

NWS says 'possible' tornado - they're sending people to investigate and confirm.

It was “radar indicated” to my understanding, which is not a visual confirmation, which is why weather investigators were sent in to confirm. Stand by.

Ahhh...got it. Makes sense. The tornadoes we got here too a couple of days to confirm as well.

The NWS survey team concluded that TWO tornadoes did in fact touch down in Minnesota yesterday.  One near Hartland, MN and a second one near Lewiston, MN.  They suspect a third one near Plainview, MN that has not been confirmed yet.

 

So yes, the first ever confirmed tornado (in fact two of them, maybe three), have been recorded in this state during the month of December.

 

I don't like it.  I don't like this new climate one bit.

No tornadoes here, thank goodness, but the way the wind was howling at 2:00 this morning I thought I’d have at least some shingles scattered across the yard. Luckily all was still attached to where it was supposed to be, and miraculously we didn’t  even lose power. It was so warm here yesterday that I worked outside all day in a T-shirt. For mid December in central Ontario, that is a very rare day indeed!

Well until about 5 days ago, there was virtually no snow on the ground here.  Now there's a few inches and its snowing again.  Northern MN received about 15 inches on Sunday night.

 

After the snow, looks like we're gonna get some real winter temps and the snow is gonna stick around.  Subzero every night for a while and a few days look like single digit highs.  Should make the snowmobilers, skiers, and ice anglers happy anyways.

At home it’s 72. Where I’m at in Ohio it’s dumping snow. I think I need to hit the transfer portal 

First snowfall today. Got maybe 2" of heavy wet heart attack snow.

We’ve gotten a couple inches in the last 24 hours and looking at 6-8 Sunday. 

We've only had a couple of dustings here and there...Me thinks we're heading for a snowy February though.

Another inch or two yesterday - and this morning it's currently 7 below.
