I haven’t done detailed planning, but I’m leaning toward the State Park.  They say it’s two miles from ramp, but rates are very reasonable.  I have no idea how quickly or far in advance people start making reservations,  so I’ll start checking website in January to gauge availability in April.  I imagine it is a popular place.

I think it can be but being in the middle of nowhere prevents big crowds. I’ll just be camping in a tent and freezing my arse off

I'd really like to go to Okoboji in Iowa and the upper Mississippi in the summer. 

I would go march lake casitas, CA for finding big lmb, thats for me. But for you I suggest some lake that you have chance of two digit bass. I am going to do it next march to catch my new PB.

Even though I live 10 minutes away from it, Lake St Clair.  It's probably the best smallmouth fishery in the country.  If you're going to spend 4 days here, you'll definitely land some 5lb+ fish.

That just cuts down on travel which I’m a big fan of doing! 

With the past 2 years of crazy and adding a first newborn with a overload work schedule, I'd take 4 straight days on my local lakes over anywhere else.

 

Would love every minute of it.

I feel you brother.  Having a 9 to 5, plus my own business, and a 9 month old on top it gives me very little time to fish.  I go any chance I get, doesn't matter if it's a puddle in the road or not.  

Ok looks like most prefer spawn/post spawn if you had a choice of anytime. Any other thoughts? prespawn vs post spawn?

Depends on where you go. Winter is the time to catch big ones down south

Well the monster bass are in southern Georgia…….. NC it seems falls, Jordan, and Sheron Harris are the hot spots. I could write a long novel on what’s available in Tennessee. Some of the best fishing lakes are not what I call fun to fish, like chickamauga, guntersville, Douglas, pickwick. They can be very fun at times but they are mostly always crowded and the waves are big . There are smaller less crowded spots that can offer fishing almost as good. South Carolina I would either fish somewhere with a huge spotted bass population like hartwell in winter. Or maybe a summer time trip fishing the cypress trees of santee cooper. Northern Georgia, I didn’t know they had water.

Definitely pre-spawn/spawn, post spawn the bite dies off for a period of time.

Those all sound great, especially if you enjoy time out on a boat. But I'll tell you, you can have a great time bank fishing the lagoons in the southern part of South Carolina and across the border in Georgia. There are literally thousands and thousands of lagoons to fish, and most hold a lot of 5+ pound LMB. DD bass are in these lagoons as well.

In the places I've fished in Tennessee and north Alabama,  May and June are the easiest times to find fish on water I don't know very well.   If I'm going to try a new place, I like to do it in those months.  If you're planning to hire a guide then you don't have to worry about finding fish.

Florida, nuff said.
