Really ruining my fishing mojo.  It gives the fish here lockjaw with 20F temp drops/rebounds every two days.

 

Haven't gotten a single strike from ANY fish in six days, which is really odd for me.

 

Why are we having the start of winter NOW when I'd normally be catching the BBW big girls coming up for pre-spawn?!?!

That does seem strange. Even the Deep South is not completely immune from winter weather, apparently.

We're feeling it here in S. FL too finally! There was actually ice this morning as I left to work. They are still kinda hitting square bills and live bait though. ?

Hang in there man, you’ll get em. I’ve been working on a weather control device, I’ll let ya know when it’s finished……… the bass won’t even see it coming……….

That's just terrible, CupCake. Boo Hoo. We're iced over here, and it'll be 15* on Wednesday.

It's been a rollercoaster here. Going from highs in the 50's a couple days, then lows in the single digits with highs not clearing the teens other days. Haven't skunked yet, but I've been close.

What are you actual water temps?  Air temps don't affect the fish as fast or as much as water temps.

Air temps have a much greater effect on me though. Lol

I went fishing yesterday.  It was 60° outside, with almost no wind.  The lake surface was smooth as glass.  First cast, my lure bounced and skidded.  Apparently, the sun had melted the surface of the ice, leaving about an eight of an inch of water on top, making it look as though it wasn't frozen over.  But it was.  Despite three days of highs in the 50's, it was still frozen up.  Those night time lows were erasing whatever work the daytime highs had done.

We "fished", on top of the ice for the first couple hours of trout opener once. It's still dark when they open the lake up and we'd picked a shallow mud flat that trout cruise looking for bugs so we didn't realize that our baits hadn't sunk, they'd actually landed on top of the ice that hadn't quite melted all the way yet.

Spring generally arrives early here in the Mid South, but right now is our "winter".

I am planning a trip the first week of March, weather permitting.  I have not wet

a line since October.

 

 

Down to 6 overnight. High of 17 tomorrow. 6 weeks minimum before we see any open water here. Good progress today on the deck build in the new 1648 though.

La Nina. Don't know about down your way, but that normally means a rough 2nd half of the winter for those of us north of the Mason Dixon.

We got about a foot and a half of fluffy white rain here this past week.? 

I'm tired of these cold fronts too... Had a 50 degree drop (80 to 30) during the last one that finally dropped the average water temp in the lakes in central/south texas to below 60 degrees... The typical winter bite has officially began here... FINALLY... It's been one of those warm winter years though and the cold bite won't last long... Some bass were already locked on beds at Choke Canyon starting mid/late-December, I bet those fish are confused as heck right now! 

Cold here in VA and NC.  But I just checked and it turns out it is January here.

It's giving you an opportunity to learn how to fish unfamiliar conditions, giving you another arrow in your quiver of fishing tricks

Without the need to look at statistics, this has been the coldest January for at least 10 years here.

In fact, I'd argue the stats if proven wrong. Lol

We are getting into a springtime pattern here.  Warm in the middle of the week and single digit cold around the weekends.

Now you sound like a real weather man! When I was at my in-laws house recently, they watch the news every morning including the weather. The local Toledo meteorologist did a year in review of 2021. By the time it was over they made the claim that it was the hottest coldest wettest driest year on the books

It’s cooled off a bit now, but when I landed here in S. FL recently - it was 103 degrees warmer than where I left in Minneapolis. Was in a bass tournament last weekend and am still pinching myself.  Gawd, I don’t miss it !! 

VERY  VERY dry air & ground.........Humidity is less than 35 %  NewRecord for my basement. Snow is not melting in the shade.

I feel you man, it's football season but the stadium ain't open. I just have to keep in mind that it's not me, it's the fish right now. Didn't help that I watched a guy hit a 9lb LMB on a jerkbait from the shore this week, but that's not the norm by any means. Of the people I've seen on the bank, my 4 fish in one day has been as good as anyone. I can't wait for March. I'm not cold out there but it sure seems like the fish are freezing.
