Looking for a small jerkbait (3 inches, 80mm or less)  that tracks good and won't blow out at medium to fast retrieves for throwing instead of a squarebill sometimes. Several of you guys have a lot of experience with jerkbaits. Any suggestions?

I use small Countdown Rapala's. You can control the depth and they are a great jerk bait.  

Yo-Zuri’s 3DR series are a good option as well. I’ve used them and they’ve worked well for me. Easy on the wallet too.

I hate rapalas because many of them don't run true out of the box, expecially at high speeds, but there is something special about them and they have an excellent tight wobble swim, floating ones are my favorite, but the price tag is not great considering the quality of the bills that break often.

Megabass X-80 Trick Darter. It's a good go between for a crankbait and a jerkbait. It's also great for cold water. Another would be the Flap Slap.

Flapslap

Next winter I’m getting some flapslaps. Those look good. Hadn’t heard of them before this thread. 

Recently caught my first brown trout on a pointer 65 fishing jt like a crankbait, it ran perfect even in decent current! Throwing a 15 dollar bait on 4lb test is a little scary though ?

I have all those lures mentioned in this thread and a few more versions.  

 

Duo Realis Rozante 77 and 85 sp has the most action by far.  The erratic action makes fish territorial and curious.  Most of the time the fish are hooked on the side of the body and head.  Nick named old never miss for a reason. 

 

Megabass vision JR.  Same as above.  Great action, nose down at a 45 degree angle and most of the time fish hit it on the pause.  Skunk repellent that gets bit no matter what. 

 

Nishine Erie 95 sd.  For tough conditions.  Blue sky, no wind, high heat.  I'd put the Jackall 78 sp in this category as well when the fish aren't committing to a high movement retrieve.  Simple action. 

 

Megabass Flapslap.  Good lure.  Good action.  Different feel than the twitch lures mentioned already.  Caught plenty of peacocks and bass alike on it.  Tweener action not high volume but not simple either falling right in the middle somewhere.  A situational presentation rather than a staple. 

 

Strike King Hybrid Hunter shallow and normal depth.  A hybrid search lure.  Shallow running with consistent depth control which is critical for shallow water with plenty of weeds.   Buzzed right over top of cover.  Pauses can work but this lure was designed for a reaction bite.   Gold and white are staple patterns.

 

Megabass Ito shiner, X-Nanahan, Bevy shad and Trick Darter.  Each are good on their own but to be honest the Rozante is hard to beat in its respective category.  The action it imparts is on steroids.  Fish tend to either crash the lure bc of its wide wobble or out of territorial anger.   The depth is the only question but since I fish skinny water most of the time its not an issue.  

 

 

 

 

 

You should ask in a walleye board, I like the HJs and Long As.

I fish the regular Long A's like that but they may be larger than what you want .

i vote megabass flap slap.  can fish like a jerkbait and crankbait with much success.

This is the the berkley flicker shad 5 shallow, it’s more on the finesse side of things, 2.75”/8gm, designed as a trolling lure, walleye I presume. I casted these shallow early last spring with some success for bass and panfish. It cranks and jerks well and stays pretty shallow 2-3ft, my best success with it was a slow and steady crank interspersed with twitches. Great hooks out of the box too.
