Tony Christian
What are some of the best walk the dog baits you would use in clear water, with no chop? I'm thinking about the Evergreen JT, Giant Dog X, a clear Super Spook Jr, and a Sammy. Larger baits like the Vixen and Diamante seem too large and loud for clear water smallies and largemouth around where I fish.
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 Most of the waters I fish are clear. When I throw a walking bait it’s usually a lighter colored Rapala Skitterwalk or Megabass Dog X.

Super User FryDog62 Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 Shower Blows 105 in any metallic and/or clear color. I also like to throw an Arashi Cover Pop.. you can walk the dog with it, or use it like a popper. A good dual purpose lure to see what they prefer without changing out rods/lures.

I was thinking of that but I would like a walking bait to fish when there is no chop on the water. The SB seems a little too aggressive for thise conditions. 1 hour ago, Jar11591 said: Most of the waters I fish are clear. Cover Pop is maybe even a little more subtle.... some good options out there anyway!

Doesn’t seem that giant compared to other walking baits.

I only carry the sexy dawg. Color thrown depends on the color of the day (light levels) but its usually either chrome or sexy shad.
Super User Catt Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 Well gonna loose some of y'all! I would pick a Yellow Magic 1/4 oz in bone. Instead of popping it I would walk the dog kinda fast.
Ktho
My Favorite is the giant dog x but the spook jr is good too. Also like little poppers like the pop x, pop max, and rebel pop-r.. I mostly ever fish lakes with small bait like silversides, threadfin, small panfish so the small topwaters are the right size and I think the really clear water bass just like the smaller profiles. For color I've always done best with a white bottom my favorites are bone, threadfin or just a shad color, and baby bass.
Cdn Angler
Last year I was in that exact scenario and wasn't getting bit on loud topwaters. I switched to an Ima Skimmer, which is very thin, very subtle, and started catching fish.
Super User WRB Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 Smaller excellent dog walking lure is Owner Cultiva Zip n Ziggy baby bass. Original wooden Sammy in Shad. Catt noted 1/4 Splash-It in bone or Shad worked fast. Tom
Super User Munkin Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 Evergreen JT 95, Wooden Sammy 100, and if you can find one a Balsa Bull or Balsa Pro. Allen
FrnkNsteen
I've used both the clear Zara Spook Jr and the Zara Puppy with good results. Especially for smallies on clear northern lakes in northern MN or Ontario

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 17 Super User Share Posted March 17 This is what you want for a subtle approach without built-in rattles. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Evergreen_JT-_Topwater_Walking_Bait/descpage-EGJT.html 6 hours ago, Munkin said: Evergreen JT 95, Wooden Sammy 100, and if you can find one a Balsa Bull or Balsa Pro. The small size doesn't spook fish and the bubbles produced by the cupped mouth are subtle yet enticing. I've caught some big fish using it as well. It's my go to topwater in these situations.

I use all stock hardware on them. Its one of the easiest baits to walk in my opinion.

Tom Orr
Florida Bass Super Spook Jr. last year. The year before it was the X-Pod Jr. in Gill color. I usually try most of my topwater baits, but these are my go-to's. Sometimes the Sexy Dawg Jr. does it. I always use a small snap so I can change baits to see what they want that day. A pearl colored One-Knocker Spook worked fairly well last year also.
