  • Getting PSA tests is what saved my life, and that of millions of others.  So yes, I'd do it all over again!  I wouldn't hesitate at all.   It's important to understand that a PSA test does N

You’re the man Glenn!!! The BR community has your back if you ever need anything

Best wishes for a better year Glen!

I understand your position, both my parents are in their late 80's and I also have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. First "red flag" was high PSA count followed by a biopsy to confirm. Fortunately in my case it was caught very early (because of PSA test)and I am on a program called "active surveillance" so they can monitor the growth or spreading until the time where treatment is needed.

Good for you @Ski!  That's exactly how it should be.  You're on the right path.  If/when your gleason score hits 3+4 (7), then it's go time.

My advice to you is to seek out the absolute best cancer care center in your area, even if it's outside your healthcare network, or travel to get care if you need to.  Who performs your treatment is critical to success, especially what happens AFTER treatment.  I was fortunate in that one of the nation's top 5 urology oncologists and best cancer care centers is located right where I live.

My condolences as well Glenn. As a cancer survivor I fully understand your message & experience. Glad you caught it in time & good fishing going forward.

Sorry about your mom & uncle, Glenn. Thankful to hear that you're doing well with your health. We all love your videos, but your priorities were in the right place during those trials. Hoping for better years for you going forward. Thanks for all you do to help your "internet fishing friends".

Good friend of mine is 9 months into his recovery after having his prostate removed. He can look back now and feel very good (mentally and physically) that he got it done in time.  You'll get there soon too!

I want to talk about the aftermath of struggling the stress grief can cause.

Stress builds up slowly with accumulated health and death of friends and family.

We should all out live our parents and a natural event but the stress d builds quietly with each loss.
I lost my dad, mom, 2 brothers and my only son between 2005 and 2020. My sons death from stage 4 Renal cancer has been horrible as we are not wired to out live our children.

Early detection of cancer is critical to survival! When 30 cancer isn’t on your mind, over 50 health issues start and so should annual physicals.

There are helpful books on grief the one that helped me is Don’t Take My Grief Away From Me by Doug Manning,

Get well soon Glenn.??
Tom

So sorry to hear about your last year Glenn. But glad to hear you're doing better and clear.

I'm 53, just had my yearly last month. My Dr recommended a PSA, which I did, came back clear.

Thank you for sharing and spreading awareness.

Hope you have a better year from here.

Good job on the diagnosis, treatment and recovery Glenn! I am blessed to have a great PC doctor who does a complete psychical with EKG and comprehensive bloodwork, including PSA levels every 6 months now that I'm past 65. Staying ahead of it is easy, but fixing it after it's broken, not so much. Really glad to hear you are OK!

RONNIE!!  I thought you left us!  Haven't heard from you in a long time.  Glad to see your familiar face!  Glad to hear you're doing well.

@Glenn  I have completed Prostate Cancer treatment in N. Florida. My PSA level shot up to 9.0 from 5.2 and the Urologist and Oncologist acted swiftly. After the radiation treatment my PSA results are now .38, That was a tough few months.

@Ski happy to hear your numbers are low.

Glenn, glad to hear you are doing well. I go for a exam twice a year. Guys if haven't had an exam go do it. The recommended age is 50,

Wishing you the best.  You have made a difference in the lives of all the BR members.  Thank you!

I know this is an old post, but I had prostate cancer at the age of 45. I had a radical prostatectomy and made a full recovery. Guys get those exams done!

@Ski I'm so glad it worked out for you!  Early detection is the key to a cure for sure.  And it's just a simple blood test.

Glad to hear others are getting checked too!  @Don Harris That's an early age....or used to be.  I'm hearing more and more guys are getting it in their 30's and 40's, well before the recommended age 50 for testing.  Glad you caught yours early enough!

As for me, I just passed my 3-year-mark cancer free!

I'm not a doctor and don't want to give medical advice but I suggest everyone familiarize yourself with the controversy around PSA screenings.  I won't go into the controversy because I think you're better off getting medical advice from something other than a fishing forum so look it up yourself or ask your doctor.

Personally,  I do get an annual PSA test.

Me too, have my annual physical coming up soon. It’s been a few years since I got the ol one finger salute, but I get a PSA every year. Numbers are always good, knock on wood.
