Anyone use the uni knot? I’ve been trying tons of knots over the years and after lots of trials and also watching others do testing, it seems the uni to be one of the top. But I never hear anyone using it much. I wonder if it had a cooler name like the San Diego Jam knot…ppl would use it more lol. Seriously though, anyone had issues with this knot in the past?  It’s just a super simple knot to tie so less room for error and it seems to do well in most strength tests. No it’s not 100% but seems close. And if you need that 100% then the double uni seems to be the ticket. Thanks for your thoughts! And happy Easter! 

Youll see uni to uni used quite a bit here for joining lines. I don't use it because IMO the trilene is a superior knot and just as easy to tie.

I use the clinch mostly, but working on the jam. I used the uni for something like 20 years but had it slip out a few times so went to the clinch, most likely a user issue. I do use the double uni on the boat as I know it and can tie it in the wind. Been working on the Alberto as it seems thinner. 
 

The knot I know is better then the one I don’t.

I don't snell often but the uni version is the only way I do it.  As a san diego jam knot user, it's definitely the name and my intense jealousy of persistent 74 degree weather.

I use a relatively unknown knot for terminal connections - the MK - it's similar to the Uni in ways, but easier for me to tie.

 

Backing-mainline connection I use the double-Uni

And like Scott - when I snell it's with the Uni version.

I use it for line to line knots

I went to the MK cause I don't like the idea of 3 tag ends gathering algae and weeds.

MK is similar to the double-line Uni, but ends up with only 1 tag end.

I've been using the uni knot for a couple of years now for tying on moving baits when using a snap will pick up too many weeds.  This year I have started using the Trilene knot also. 

I use the uni (the foolish version) for all braid to lure connections. 

Use it all the time, Never have a problem. rarely use a leader though.

Id say I can tie a SD jam with my eyes closed and use it for everything with little failure rate. Comes down to what is the best knot you can tie in a stressful situation or in the dark. To tie the trilene,  it takes a bit of time but great knot, uni, also a great knot, as is a Palomar.  Buy I can't tie them as fast as I can a SD. So I go with the one that I can tie quickly without fail.

I've been using nothing but the uni knot for 40 or 50 years, well, unless I need a loop knot. I started using it in the surf on 9- to 11.5-foot rods and still do. I know other knots, but I have faith in my ability to tie the uni correctly in the wind and even the dark. 

 

The first directions I saw came in a spool of line and it took me awhile to get the hang of getting it to pull tight evenly with no lumpy crossovers. For the life of me I can't remember if it was Stren, Trilene or the original Silver Thread, but that came later iirc.

I use it when tying braid directly to a hook/bait, it's very strong. I don't like it much with copoly/mono, definitely not with FC.

Like @garroyo130 said, you'll see It mentioned here. For me, I prefer using either a palomar or Trilene knot. I can't remember either ever failing me. But as in all things, to each their own.

I prefer the trilene as well because it doesn't leave a kink in the line when cinched down, and also the tag end faces away from the lure.

I use the Fish N Fool knot most often.  It's basically a uni knot, only with a few more wraps (for braid, especially thin braid), and a double loop through the eye.  It holds about as well as anything out there, is easy to tie, and doesn't produce a lot of waste (because I'm cheap).

lol I hear ya! plus you want to keep those leaders as long as you can so you don't have to retie...so having a lot of wasted line drives me crazy. thanks for the feedback

I prefer the super trilene knot, especially for fluoro or mono. I really think that extra wrap around the hook eye is important. Ive especially noticed the benefits pulling out of snags. 

I use the braid uni that Salt Strong tested on YT to tie A-Rigs on. Twice through the eye and 10 wraps. Other baits with braid get a palomar or snell. Trilene knot with mono.

The uni for line to line is about as easy to tie as it gets, is super reliable, and its only down side is its size.  Which leads many of us using micro guides to go to smaller knots like the FG and the Alberto.  

I use 4 knots:

 

Improved clinch for fluoro or mono to lure if I expect a snag

Uni for leader fluro or mono to braid (fg is a giant pain)

Palomar for braid or flouro to lure (this is going away)

Double Pitzen knot for braid or floro to lure, its easier to tie but leaves 3 tag ends

 

Other thoughts: I don't use superglue on double uni, it scraps my thumb on a baitcaster if the leader is long

 

I use the uni or some variation more than any other knot.
