Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 22, 2024 Global Moderator Posted January 22, 2024 Got the colonoscopy, all clear ! My brother has colon cancer so they recommend I get one ten years before his age diagnosis. Bout 8 years too late for that (they just found his this year and he’s 41 I’m 39), however all clear anyhow 22 Quote

Super User gim Posted January 22, 2024 Super User Posted January 22, 2024 Did you do it "your way" at home with Cologuard?? 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 22, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted January 22, 2024 Hahaha not sure what that is, only the prep occurred at home. We had to park my wife’s car a quarter mile downhill at a church last night so we could get out in the dark this morning 1 hour ago, AlabamaSpothunter said: And you thought you had a dirty job 🤣😉 Hope your brother makes a full recovery brother! Thanks buddy he’s done with chemo and waiting to get it cut out. Chemo worked well enough to skip radiation (they say) 6 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 22, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted January 22, 2024 Ah, little gross but I think I’ve heard of people doing that. I got knocked out and scoped and they gave me 3 pages of photos 🤮. im also guessing the cologuard is cheaper but my 2024 insurance says they paid for it. My 2023 insurance was going to bill me $880 1 Quote
greentrout Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 The colonoscopy is by far the better way to go for detection. I was put to sleep and didn't feel or notice a thing. Been there; done that. 5 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 22, 2024 Super User Posted January 22, 2024 Also went down that path once. When I was a baby/toddler I had polyps in my intestines so the doctor recommended that I get a colonoscopy after turning 30. I think I finally got it done 6 or 7 years ago when we were home from the UK for a week. All clear. The worst part was the prep. We were staying with my inlaws. The house only had one bathroom and it was right next to the living room/dining room table/kitchen as the first floor was all one small open plan... 1 8 1 Quote

He is hilarious and kept the nurses laughing, he had a version of that one also 😂. When I took him for cataracts he was kind of reserved and said “I don’t have much comedy for eye people “ 2 Quote

VolFan Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Yep this is one of those things that is highly suggested at 45 for men. It’s not hard, but buy good toilet paper. I posted in the ‘What are you drinking tonight?’ thread back a few months ago. The prep is bad. You will be empty. But the procedure itself is nothing. It’s very similar to a pfd - It may save your life. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 25, 2024 Super User Posted January 25, 2024 When I had mine a few years back I drank the prep the night before but it didn't work completely. They scheduled another appointment and told me that I would need to drink two days worth of the prep. I told the doctor's office to come up with another plan. 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 25, 2024 Author Global Moderator Posted January 25, 2024 @Bankbeater, lord have mercy they need to give you what they gave me, it worked instantly, although I’m sure it varies from person to person. Took 4 pills in the morning that were somewhat effective. Then drink the drink and that’s all she wrote 2 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 25, 2024 Super User Posted January 25, 2024 Similar deal here. They had me start the evening before. 4 pills, then drinks. More drinks early the next morning, then nothing for like 5hrs before the procedure. The prep was no fun for sure, but wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Worst part was starving all day. I'll make sure to get a morning appointment next time. 2 Quote
