Why are all fish not smart enough to not bite lures with those giant clear lips ?

How do the " Match the Hatch "  guys explain that ?

I've missed you around here cyclops2. Welcome back.

I'd wager the clear bill is the least off-putting thing about a crankbait.

Because they realize if they hit a deep crankbait once in a while, bass anglers will team up with the Monkey and buy so many crankbaits, that they can't afford to go fishing.  The bass are simply thinking long term.  If the bass only hit live bait, the anglers would only use live bait, and they would be able afford to fish more, and the live bait would be harder for the bass to avoid.  This would be very bad for the bass.  More anglers, using a more successful bait.  Once in awhile the bass have to take one for the team and hit the most expensive crankbait in my box.

What about 4oz of stuff on an A rig? Couple of coat hangers on there.

I see that nothing has changed too. Still the same confusing posts.

Welcome back Cyclops.

Because the hooks hanging from the crankbait are such a turn on that they never notice the clear lip.

Bass eat ducks…

Ducks have bills (lips)…

Crankbaits have bills (lips)…

Match the hatch 😎 bass can’t tell the difference

We don't know enough about fish.

My theory is that they are geniuses and posses intelligence far above what humans are capable of achieving ... but they have the memory of a goldfish.

If Bass will not eat a lure with grass clinging to it, why haven't bait fish evolved to carry grass around to keep from getting eaten?

Because it’s winter and the bass like the fisherman are bored😎

makes perfect sense

Because they are not smart and do not see or think like human beings.

If you like to experiment, try this test.  Go to your local tackle store and walk down the deep diving crankbait isle.  Choose one of those expensive japanese bait with the extra long bill.  Blue and silver is a nice color.   Pay for the lure and, as you walk out, about 5 feet outside the door, put the crankbait on the ground with the bill facing the door.  Then walk about 50 feet to the right and wait.  I bet you the first guy out the door will pick up the bait without even looking at the bill.

Or you could just throw down a $50 BILL and I am sure they will enjoy that as well while admiring the bill as they put it in their billfold.

I tried to tell customers for nearly two decades that animals are not the same as humans. 0% of them believed me. I had to show some of them a rat in a trap that had been eaten by its family members, still didn’t sink in.  They think they take their little rat children to school and the grocery store

people are the exact same way with fish. “You took it off the nest, now its babies are doomed!” Give me a friggin break, they eat their own babies

I know some humans who probably should have done such with their offspring.

A 50$ bill does not work on fish.😀

I'm not sure, Pike seem to love to keep those $25 jerkbaits.

Seems like there was a movie about that ……

Unfortunately it wasn’t set at any boat ramps.

Had my fill of zombie stories to last 2 lifetimes. AMC needs to just move onto something else - milk Breaking Bad for more stories.

Greetings All,

I suspect at a physiological level, a moving object simply presents a limited opportunity for analysis. Basically a gross interpretation, just to identify it at a rudimentary level of detail.

It may be a different situation if the target is not moving or slower moving providing opportunity for more detailed examination.

Although I believe this may be another reason to go fishing to figure this out, right? Have a good day! Cheers!

Its a reaction bait...they arent sitting there examining it, they see it wiggle by, MAYBE realize its a color they have seen and go for it. Their life is to reproduce and eat and if its in the water and can fit in their mouth its edible.
