What are "we" calling deep crankbaits (vs. non-deep crankbaits)?

I have moved away from techniques that catch bass.  This year I didn't waste valuable casting practice time landing and releasing bass.  I hope to go back to techniques that catch bass next year, but

Deep crankbaits to me is anything 15’ or deeper.

The Only true way to stop dropshotting is to send me your stuff. Out of sight, out of mind. I will accept spinning reels and rods also.

I bought all my reels from US based stores, with sales i got them for 30-60% off MSRP. I got my US Zillion for $10 more than a JDM. And sure that point is valid that you CAN save money, but zero warranty. With the way quality control has taken a nose dive into a mess id rather spend the same or a few bucks more and get that warranty.

Not to disagree with your statement but I’m 76 years old & have been fishing for at least 60 +years. I have never had to exercise a reel warranty in my lifetime. I have always adhered to buying quality products over price so I don’t buy cheap reels. Buying JDM reels is a no brainer when the yen disparity is in your favor because the warranty is not important when buying quality products like Shimano or Diawa.  Just my experience based on about 20 some JDM reel purchases.

Hey, can I get in on this?

I totally agree. The odds of getting a defective upper end Diawa or Shimano are pretty slim. Even if work was needed on the reel, you could have it repaired out of pocket and still come out ahead by buying JDM.

chatterbaits.......that's it ...hate em......

Plain neds. Just weren't getting it done this year and didn't have the patience for them. Tiny craw baits worked well but not stick baits.  Made hay this year with lots of flukes and micro jigs.

Senkos were a staple for me when I was first starting out.  I don’t use them all that much anymore.  In fact I have several unopened bags just sitting around unused.

Another one is the chatterbait.  I’ve found that a Spinnerbait works just as good under a wider variety of conditions.

You’ll look back at that decision as one of the best in your fishing life too.

I too haven't dropped a shot in about 3 years.

Good riddance.

I’ll send you all my drop shot stuff. Here’s a clue though, the box you receive will be empty. Lol

Y'all crazy. I'm going to be drop shotting ASAP and I wouldn't be surprised to land a few dandies on it. For many lakes in TX, and for my home lake, a dropshot is something I can no longer ignore.

I have 3 Daiwas that i dont use because they barely work. But they came out the box that way.

And this isnt the last 60 years, this is now, which is the worst time we have ever been in with quality control.

It is literally zero. Across all brands, across all industries.

My dad bought Silverados one after another for decades, want to know why he doesnt have a new one? Because they are junk. Everything is being recalled constantly, companies are cutting costs at every turn, in America, and definitely overseas.

While Daiwa and Shimano arent as bad as certain brands that have ruined their fanbase, they arent perfect like they once were either.

And the reels i bought in America with a warranty were still about a quarter to half the price as the ones from Japan.

What does reels have to do with techniques?

Brand bashing without facts isn’t tolerated by most BR members. How about detailing your complaints with specifics!

Ned Rigs. Do a lot of finesse but there really out of the picture

Already have on multiple occasions on here.

And im not brand bashing, i simply pointed out i have had 3 defective out of the box reels.

When 2 guys claimed there is no way possible a reel can be bad out of the box.

Brand bashing would be me saying all Daiwas are horrible.

Which i havent, i just stated no matter who makes the rod or reel we live in the worst time possible for quality control. Look at any news site, mass recalls like never before, its made its way into the fishing industry. I did no such brand bashing, i only pointed out the warranty is needed now more than ever. Which is why i dont think saving $10 is worth ordering a JDM one without it.

Oh and i love Daiwa rods and reels btw.

I've always advocated buying a quality reel first, that way I don't have to budget for reels again for years.

I’ve moved away from that boisterous 10 XD.. ugh talking about a workout with the occasional reward. I’m throwing heavier Jigs, T-rigged worms via C-rig now. I enjoy my deep water fishing now more than ever.

Ned Rigs and big swims/glides. I still carry them, but they're techniques I've pigeon-holed for very specific situations. Neds only come out after I've given up on all other baits and big swims/glides only come out when I have a limit, really need a kicker fish, and everything else is only producing smaller fish.

Easy to answer.

Ned rigs (collect nothing but algae and leaves)

Spinnerbaits (caught one bass in 5 years)

Dropshot (just a pain in the butt to me)

C-Rig (see dropshot above)

I my case it may not be a technique that was moved away from but a bait. But the bait will get revisited eventually. Generally when I go back to a successful bait it works out positively. At times kept from getting skunked. I think not using a Carolina Rig has cost me fish this fall. No excuse as to why I didn’t. Got hung up with other techniques.

I don't even attempt to chase new techniques. I'm still doing what I have done for years - flipping jigs, swim jigs, Texas rig, spinnerbaits/buzz-baits, top waters, and shallow crankbaits. This is what I have the most confidence in day in and day out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure drop shots, ned rigs, etc. are very productive. I just don't feel the need to change what has been producing in the lakes and marshes I most frequently fish.

And, I don't couldn't tell you the first thing about JDM or BFS tackle.

I almost exclusively fish an Underspin instead of a Spinnerbait these days. Just sold off all my A-Rigs and most of my big Swimbaits along with some 300-400 size reels. I leave the heavy lifting fishing to my Tuna fishing.

Why? When I got back into it this year I tried it and hated it. No fun to cast and less fun to rig. Even less than a Carolina rig.
