I am thinking of buying bibs.  rain bibs.   they are not cheap.  not the goretex ones.

 

I pass on some good fishing days, and I think with really good rain gear, I would still get out there.  no atmospheric level events, but regular rain.  

 

I need to stay with range of motion stuff.  any recommendations?

I use a BPS rain suit. I think they are called HPR or something.

the Callan is one of the Contenders.  

 

Simms is another.

I've had a lot of different sets of raingear, including Guide Wear and 2 different 100MPH suits. I finally decided to go with the "Buy once, cry once", motto and I really wish I'd done it a long time ago.

I went cheap, Redhead, no complaints other than the sizing, as in too big. They do the job and pack into a pocket so they’re good on space. Not bibs though.

 

I only stay out in light rain.

Those waterproof forever chemicals are pretty nasty stuff, I usually just get soaked haha. We get 13 inches of rain more per year than Seattle , it’s inevitable 

 

I’ve had them all over the years, it’s tough to stay dry sitting down 

I've been fishing frogg toggs Pilot series for the past 4 years out of the kayak and have just moved it into the boat.  I also wore the jacket for power washing the patio a couple times and a couple other heavy rain events that weren't fishing.  Nary a problem.  $180 each.

I have BPS 100MPH. They’re three or four years old and holding up well.

 

I bought them 50% at the end of season clearance.

I've got some old school Cabela's Gore-Tex bibs and a coat. They are camouflage and not 100% water proof...I use mainly for the wind-stopping ability and in light rain. When it does rain, I throw on a cheap Frog-Togg set to keep me 100% dry. 

 

If it's really going to rain, I go home. Boat doesn't have waterproof storage, and I really don't want to dry everything out.

Military APECS (All Purpose Environmental Clothing). Waterproof (Gore Tex) and built like a tank.

Whichever brand you decide to go with, the waterproofing outer layer is going to eventually wear out. I found this out the hard way.

 

Stay on top of it and re-waterproof it regularly. Once it’s gone, it’s not coming back.

I have a simple hooded Huk rain jacket and then my normal water wicking fishing pants.

 

I like that the inner and outer velcro sleeves on the jacket help keep me dry.

 

 

I bought a couple old Goretex parkas on eBay for $20 each. Both are high quality and I sprayed both. Hope the spraying works.

Simms bibs and jacket. Dry,,,,,so far. Although I have Frogg Toggs motorcycle set and they have served me well in driving rain at 50-75 mph for hours. It would seem the fishing gear should work well too.

I keep a Frog Toggs poncho in my kayak.  It covers my whole body and arms.  100% of rain I'll stay home.

you Goretex people.  I used to know a person that worked for Goretex.  I actually have a sheet of the stuff 20x20 sheet of it in my garage somewhere.  

 

he said Goretex garments need to be periodically washed.   when it gets dirty, the filth wicks the moisture thru.  I had a 30 year old jacket I gave to a homeless dude that stayed waterproof the entire time.  pretty sure it isn't anymore..but it was bombproof.   so out of style, and quite ugly.. and it didnt fit me anymore.    I washed it with my car washing drying towels all the time.

     I wear a pair of Gore-Tex Chest waders and a Simms Rain Jacket when the weather gets funky.

I had to use them yesterday. 1-2’ white caps and I had to go quartering into them to get back to the ramp. It was a wet ride but the bibs and jacket were great. 

waited patiently for the Memorial sale.  i was too slow.  the Mustang Callans sold out and the sale ended early.  booo!!!

 

so i went with the Simms Challenger.  mixed reviews.  i did have them sent to my local Sportsmans Warehouse, so i can at least try them on..and feel them.  

 

just in time for our dryass summer.  hahahha

I think you’ll be happy with the Simms, if they fit.

I bought a set (bib's and jacket) of the Frogg Toggs FTX series on sale for 99.00.  I like them so far.  I need to find something for summer wear that is seriously light weight.

Goretex bibs for my lower body and a Goretex wading jacket on top. Because you are sitting in a kayak or canoe, a long jacket isn’t good. You are sitting on the bottom of the jacket without a lot of room to move around. A wading jacket is shorter and won’t restrict your movement. Having bibs with the short jacket keeps you fully covered. 

I have a Huk rain jacket with hood that also zips up to cover most of my face. It also has multiple velcro straps around the wrists to keep the water out.

 

I have some waterproof, moisture wicking, lightweight, convertible hiking pants that I bought off of Amazon that I use every time I fish, even when it's not raining.
