Not a bass boat.

Featured Replies

Driving on the I75 in FL yesterday morning I passed a large catamaran with 4 400hp engines.  His fuel bill just starting those engines would last me all winter.

Well over 100K in outboards 😳

Do you ever watch Wavy Boats on YouTube?  It's all footage of boats entering and exiting Haulover Inlet in Miami Beach.  What made the channel popular are all of the stuffings and mishaps, but there are also a lot of insane off shore boats and power yachts.  The biggest I remember was 5x500HP Mercury Verados.

Bigger engines, bigger bills. That's what I think when I see stuff like this. :D

@MontanaBasser I watch that and seriously question my life choices that I cannot afford one 😂😂

One of the markets I’m building at work is Grand Haven, Mi. A couple days a week I’ll go to the pier to eat lunch and watch the boats head out to Lake Michigan. Some of the boats are well over a million and  they’re out of the water 5-6 months out of the year! That probably goes for their houses too. Crazy money.

We see a bunch of them down here especially on the east coast.
The majority have 3 300’s but only a few have 4

When you have to ask how much……

Every boat is a bass boat if I brought a rod.  Just have to throw moving baits on that one I guess.

It’s in every market. I see 3/4 million dollars homes being built 40/50 at a time and wonder where does all the money come from to purchase these homes.

The economy has surely passed me by………….

I fished a tournament last weekend.  Local circuit.  59 boats.  Say with tackle $100k each.  59 trucks at $50k each.  Almost 9 million dollars in toys.

Most of each less than 3 years old.

I'm fairly well off,  but I have a 5 year old boat and truck.  Running 5 year old electronics.  I see guys dropping $10k+ for the latest and greatest with no thought.  $600 rods and $500 reels.

Where does all this money come from?  General stupidity and/or good credit?

About three years ago, I saw a guy docking his cigarette boat on Green Bay with a line of massive outboards on his boat's transom. He staggered off the boat. All that power wasn't enough to satisfy him. He had to be drunk too, endangering everyone he encountered.

I bet I outfish most of them in my used canoe. I'm sure @Pat Brown does in his little boat. Same with @kingfisher in his kayak and @AlabamaSpothunter in his little boat.

If it doesn't have a TM with Spot Lock, it's holds no value to me.

So you don't think they're working 80-100 hour weeks to pay for all that stuff? 😆

Even at that they must make one heck of a salary!

I know a young couple, like  @mcipinkie stated has the latest and greatest. They are in debt to their eyeballs, they have to work 80-100 hrs a week just to keep their stuff.
He told me the other day, “we’ve got all this stuff and no time to enjoy it because we have to work to keep it”

By my observation, that's often the case. The other is those who never worked for it, but either had it handed to them, inherited it, or simply had the fortune of a great-paying job fall in their lap. I'm reminded of the line in Montgomery Gentry's song, Where I Come From..."That old man right there in the rocking chair at the courthouse square, I'll tell you now, he could buy your fancy car with hundred dollar bills..." Those who have earned it the hard way, (and have seen hard times), tend to hang on to it rather than blow it frivolously in an effort to impress folks. I know a few folks who are "rich", but live as humbly as those who are not. And I know a few who live WAY beyond their means. I always told my kids I'd always rather be richer, stronger, and smarter than I appear to be.

Far be it from me to tell anyone how to spend their $$ and I sure as heck don’t begrudge anyone who may be better off than me.  This attitude nowadays of “Lets eat the rich” is confusing to me.  BUT…. Here’s a little perspective on those offshore boats sporting triples and quad, big horsepower outboards.  Many have transitioned to outboards and away from the big diesel single or twin screw inboards.  The reason…..safety and cost along with (believe it or not) fuel savings.  You loose your motor 100 miles or more offshore and you are radioing the USCG.  You loose one or two outboards and you can still limp back to port.  As for cost on current bass boats and trucks, you are always going to pay dearly for the “Latest and greatest” in both.  Not to be outdone, I was amazed at the amount of $$ in some of the newest kayak setups.  Dang near rivaled fiberglass bass boats.  Even the smaller tin bass rigs are not “economy” rigs anymore.  As I have said, you put the tag “marine” or “equestrian” on anything and it doubles the price.😂

With that much money tied up in boats and houses, you can bet its either old money or borrowed money.

Unless, their full time work involves unlawful selling of pharmaceuticals or bank robbery. 🤣

Agreed. My kayak was a retirement present to myself and it was over 2k for just the boat and pedal drive. Once I upgraded to a trolling motor and electronics/accessories it was up there.

I agree, It would be hard for any of us to do that. Especially when I look at our tackle alone, then look at a kid fishing with a Zebco 33, and a cup of worms. Probably catches as much if not more too. Haha.

Having an extra motor is not a bad thing ether, especially when you do that “look around” and see nothing but water.
