High priced baits

Featured Replies

The most expensive lure I have is the Berkley Frittside, then I wait until it goes on sale.

KGB Crappie, $200. There's nothing really to compare it to for realism of a small crappie glide.

  • The Megabass Ito Vision 110 in GP Pro Perch. It was only like $25, but it's the one that triggered the obsession. To this day, I still curse the bait while removing it from every bulbous brown bass I

I recently did a seminar on big baits at a tackle store so I needed to put them on display. This is the only time they have ever been on a pegboard - I store them in a big plano box.

The bgc stuff is awesome. One of the biggest bass I’ve ever seen I raised on the 9” trout, and I’ve caught a ton of fish on the 7” shad. The trout is more an early season bait for me with the slow wide turns.

I have a couple of the 9” shads but pretty much never throw them due to the weight, have only ever had follows on it as well but barely fish it.

And the Monkey keeps telling me to buy a glide bait. Just one, fish it in open water, you won't lose it. How can one bait hurt? It could be one of the less expensive glides. Same price as a few packs of soft plastics, You wont need to buy more one is all you will ever need. Thanks for posting a picture of what just one might end up looking like. Please keep the Glide Bait Monkey at your house.

I have a 40 size spro rat that was honestly way bigger than I thought it'd be. It was like $40 maybe? I figure I'll use it for muskie since the snaller rat is perfect for bass up here.

Then I have a Hog Farmer a-rig. With premium hooks the entire thing was probably $45 or so? I had a cheaper yum version but I had to run one dummy since too many hooks for here. It also did not have any blades, which I wanted. I never caught a single fish on the yum even though I thought it looked great in the water. And have caught 5ish fish in limited use of the hog farmer.

that size 40 spro has been a solid producer for me, for years. smallmouth bass absolutely hammer them in the rivers here. pike, musky and bowfin all seem to love munching on juvenile rodents too.

You know, for years I thought @A-Jay jerkbait collection was "the one." I think this tops that.

You should see my bladed jig drawer. Last checked I had over

He has a 9" thin shad that weighs less.

You think a Spro 40 is big? Jeez. I consider it to be really small and near entry level stuff. You need to change uour mindset - a bass will happily eat something way bigger like a squirrel or a small muskrat.

BGC has a 9" slim that weighs less. The biggest striper I have ever seen i had hooked on the 9". I had it next to my kayak and it was over 40" long. I didn't know what to do with it and it ended up coming unhooked.

I have lost a few of these. It hurts but I'm not gonna stop fishing them.

Deps Tiny Bullshooter $50.00

Stole the words out of my mouth. Smallies will wreck a Deps 250 all day long if you give em a chance. People are only limited by their mind. Had a guy tell me recently he has “swimbait rods” and “tournament rods”. Apparently bass won’t eat a swimbait if it’s during a tournament lol. I’ve been winning tournaments fishing strictly swimbaits for 20 years.

Nice bunch of baits, btw. If you like the BGC 9 you gotta try a bullshad 9. I spy a couple pats there that would probably $300+ each as well.

Where did you get those clips to hang the lures on pegboard hooks?

Looks like the white clips are holding the wire peg-board hanger to the board and the baits are suspended by paperclips(?).

Another good way is curtain rods and just use like 20 gauge wire to hang them. Or paperclips

I saw some absolutely off the wall stuff at the classic expo this past weekend. I saw baits that HAD to be at least 14 or 16(Maybe bigger) inches long. I couldn't believe my eyes. That's bigger than most of the fish I catch. lol

You tell yourself that, until you cast it off into that open water and it sinks into all that nothingness and you have nothing to help mark the spot in went down at to try and recover it. My first expensive glide I cast off was into open water over an off limits area cable so I couldn't even try to go get it.

I bought one glide bait, tied it with 30-lb. braid, and trolled it behind me in the dark on the way to some reeds. Well, my rod snapped back with violence and my braid snapped. 30-lb. test. 30-pound! It was probably a rock, but I've snagged other times while trolling without that violence.

@Swamp Girl toothy fish love those expensive baits and 30lb braid is nothing for their teeth.

What do I actually fish with that is expensive?

Probably a glide bait in the 20$ range like the BPS swerve.

I got a few jerk baits also that are up there.

I try not to throw super expensive baits just for the thrill of it - but I’m not opposed to baits that get it done and cost a bit more.

The Yamamoto senko is a great example - that’s a bait where the original just works.

Just paperclips hanging on pegs. I had to throw it together quickly.

I had a third Pats but a blue heron stole that one. He flew up and got it wrapped up in a tree and managed to break free. I watched him fly off with it into the sunset...literally. lol

I have had plenty of bullshads but I use Black Talons more.

I have the 150, 170 and 255. I have had mixed success with them. Lots of follows on the 255 but no catches yet (I’m in the northeast).

How do you typically fish them if you don’t mind sharing?

I do not own the big guy and to be honest, I have tried multiple retrieves on the others. The best has been 4 medium speed cranks followed by 2 twitches & repeat. The bite is 99% on the slight pause after the 2nd twitch.

I’ve had the most luck on the gill around spawn and the 170 in post spawn. 170 I’ve fished fast, burn, pause couple twitches and repeat. Sounds similar to what you mentioned just fishing a little faster. The gill I usually do a slow retrieve with twitches mixed in.

This post really stings, Pat. So, you're saying you catch the biggest bass with old, cheap baits??? I surrender!

Got a couple of these herring baits think they were $130 each never thought I'd pay that much for a bait but here we are.

I don’t have anything that ran over $10, too many pickerel where I fish.

Idk where you’re from but I’m in MA we get giant pickerel. Sucks fishing a big swimbait for bass, setting the hook thinking it’s a giant and it’s a pickerel. I’ve had them eat 10 inch swimbaits

Last night just before I went out, I decided to rig this bait on a short 25lb Big Game leader to a swivel. Good thing as this Pickeral choked the bait. The top hook was deep in the roof of its mouth. The leader was shredded, but it held up.

Right there with you on the Bullshooter....and I'm so cheap, I've only thrown it once and then put it up. Have a tacklebox full of 110s also, definitely got bit by the Megabass bug, so collectively they'd take the cake too.
