Finally got a chance to give this used Aldebaran 51 a deep clean. For $118 to-my-door, it's in really great shape. But the cleaning process was such a pain in the butt, not because it's dirty but because there're some many extra and small parts that need attention, way more than other Shimano reels. Some of the designs I like and some I don't, but I can definitely tell how Shimano is trying everything to shed a gram or two, while keeping the reel as sturdy and smooth as possible.

That's why I got rid of my 2019 Antares...

@PixInTheSix, wow! Love those TD-X reels- I also have a fleet of them, but few of mine are as clean as yours!

You mean clean like this...?  Knowing how fragile the finish on these reels is, I've just always made a point to be sure they sit reel up on the deck because as we all know, boat carpet is like sandpaper.

I’m sure many of you will know who I’m referring to when you see the photos and realize the reel is a pimped out Tica Cetus SS 500? Thanks again my friend.

For $60 to-my-door, this TD-Z is in better shape than I thought. It'll be my winter project - change the plastic front piece, order a gear set from Tackle Trap, maybe change the drag star and handle, etc. I can't help but wonder, how did @evo2s197 repaint its main frame?

Trying out the new Daiwa Airity to compare it to the new Vanquish. It pairs really nicely with my Daiwa Rebellion -

Slightly modified SLX DC XT. I think it looks much better with black/red, swept drag star and 90MM handle.

And it matches the tiny red thread that's on the Adrena.

@T2DM If I may ask where did you buy the parts? I’m  looking at picking up a SLX MGL and now I’m intrigued on the tension knob specifically.

The star drag, handle nut and tension knob are left over parts from one of my 17 Scorpion DC that I dropped a while back, it hit the concrete and never the same since. The handle is a stock 18 Bantam MGL that I have a few stocks of with extra bearings. I could be wrong but based on the SLX MGL schematic, the tension knob for both SLX DC XT and 17 Scorpion DC would not be compatible with the SLX MGL since if fall into the latest design by using O ring and finer threads instead of the old-style coil spring, I hope it makes sense.

I took the new SLX DC XT out yesterday for a test run and noticed that the line lay was laying more towards the right side of the spool, but I corrected it just by installing this mystery shim or washer that I have laying around to the left-side of the level wind shaft, I also replaced the factory washer (right side below the C-clip) with a thinner washer from the old 17 Scorpion DC. I think the line lay is way better now and hopefully this help others out there that maybe having the same line lay issues with the DC XT.

I think the mystery washer or shim was a BNT6588, I'll have to order some to confirm and for future use.

Never noticed this issue with mine but thanks for the heads up and part number. I’ll have to keep an eye out.   Aside from that.  Isn’t it such a great reel?

Great reel for sure specially at the price point, it's definitely an updated version of the 17 Scorpion DC which already was an awesome reel. Still waiting for the new Metanium DC though, LOL!.

Based on the overall size of the SLX DC XT, I have a feeling that Shimano will have no issue releasing a new Metanium DC based on the current platform. We will have to see, I guess.

Upgraded my big bait reel arsenal recently to the Calcutta Conquest 400 MD's.  I really like the bigger handles and paddles and they're smoother than the 2018 models I had previously!

my daiwa pixy hasnt arrived from japan yet or I would post a pic. probably gonna be havin about half a dozen rods custom built but wont be for another month or two. For now I will just enjoy rod/reel porn. I also see myself becoming more of a tackle/gear junkie then a fisherman :D

Its my understanding that reel is about same as the usa diawa Sol.  I have two Sol bait casters.  They were super expensive back in the day.  I love talking about these reels. In my opinion it was a reel way ahead of its time. There are better ones today. Any how it seems to me alot of the technology or engineering set the stage if todays reels.  Soon as I purchased mine i tried to use it and failed with bird nests.  Never could figure it out. Put reel away for years.  Then i read a review from tackletour.  Then i learned reel basically designed for thin line. I opened mybtime capsul.  I paired  it with a whippy rod now i love this reel for small cranks and square bills. So purchased my second one off ebay this time.

if im correct your pixie is same as sol, if you ever do upgrades please share where and what part #s

enjoy and thanks

The Pixy is a different reel from the Sol.  It is more finesse oriented.  Many used to make their Pixy into a "Pixzilla" reel with upgrades even from the TD-Z.  Thanks and I hope this helps.

Got the new Jackall Revoltage RVⅡ-C71H-ST with TORAYCA T1100G and Torayca M40X, has a solid tip the tip is not soft at all and should be a excellent bottom contact rod, I paired it with a new JDM STEEZ A II.
