@Bandersnatch my grandson caught this while bass fishing.

A senior citizen from Lake Charles Louisiana drove his brand new Corvette stingray convertible out of the dealership. Taking the on ramp west on I 10, he floored it to 80 mph enjoying the wind blowing through what little gray hair he had left. “Amazing,” he thought as he flew down I 10, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear-view mirror, he saw a State Trooper behind him, lights flashing and sirens blaring. He floored it to 100 MPH, then 120, then 150. Suddenly, he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this,” and pulled over to await the troopers arrival. Pulling up behind him, the trooper walked up to the Corvette, looked at his watch, and said “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is my Friday. If you can give me a reason I’ve never heard before, I’ll let you go.” The old gentleman paused. Then he said, “years ago my wife ran off with a Louisiana State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.” “Have a good day Sir,” replied the trooper.

" Buck" Perry, not only did I buy his books but I became a devout student of his teachings. I'm an avid student of the following Elwood L. Yeah I did 🤔 Drove 1 1/2 hours to the marsh, launched the boat, parked the truck, walked back to the boat. When I got in the boat, I realized I had left my rods at home!

I've used The Gamakatsu Super Heavy Cover Flippin' Hook. Personal I perfer the Heavy Cover better, little less diameter, faster penetration. I also use the Owner Flashy Swimmer 3/8 oz 6/0 hook. Both on a Heavy Fast rod

How long y'all think it would take for a 1/4 to hit bottom?

I don't understand why people think a Texas Rig can only be fished slow. With a 1/4 oz or larger weight I can pitch or roll cast & cover water quickly.

It was either 71 or 72 me & friend were running back the camp a little before dark. Ahead of us about 100 yards was another boat. When he made a right turn he was wide & clipped a stump throwing the guy from the boat. This was before mandatory kill switches. The boat circled running over the guy. I took my boat & rammed his bow kocking it into a stump field. Lots stitches later he went home.

Actually not only did I fish the lake but I found the body. That's an image that is still clear 58 yrs later!

Do I rip tails off plastics...you bet ya! Do I set hook on stumps, logs, limbs, twigs, grass...you bet ya! Do i lose hooks, weights, plastics...you bet ya! Do I set hook on nothing...you bet ya! I guarentee y'all I stick more than I miss ?

What opened my eyes was back in the 70s at a fishing seminar that featured the Hawg Trough (huge aquarium on wheels). I was standing right up against the glass eyeing a 4# bass when the Pro flipped a worm in front of the bass & it flared it gills sucking the worm in & spit out before I knew what happened. After what happened sunk in my pea brain I thought...dude ya better set hook faster & don't wait on nuthin.

This is the way Shaw Grigsby put it to me, he calls it the three tap theory. The first tap the bass has inhaled your bait The second tap the bass has exhaled your bait The third tap I'm tapping you on the shoulder asking you why you didn't set hook! I don't wait on anything, my hookup ratio is in the upper 90 percentile range. Like @casts_by_fly said...4/0 hook.

I watched some videos by this guy, I think his name is Rojas, heard he's pretty good with a frog, he throws a Medium heavy. For Texas Rig/Jig-n-Craw rod I would suggest a Daiwa Tatula TTU711MHXB, 7'1" Medium Heavy X-Fast.

I have a Daiwa Tatula TTU731MHFB, I throw frogs, swimjigs, spinnerbaits, & light punching (5/8-3/4).

🙏 Know the feeling all to well! Passed on a Rayburn trip today for that same reason.
