  1. Also, the Curados don't have the 6:1 ratio unless you get a 300. The citica comes in the 6:1.
  2. If you do a search you will find many threads discussing these. Most of what I have heard has been negative. Welcome to the forum, there is a whole lot of good info here, as well as some grea articles.

Sounds like a nice gun. Have you tried contacting S&W?
  4. Those can get pretty nasty. My Industrial Hygiene teacher showed us some pictures of a bite and how it progressed over time. It started as a small bump then in a week or two the guys whole hand looked like it would fall off. I think they like any dark place, good thing they aren't very aggressive.
  5. Spiderwire is not very good braid, if you want to go that route use Power Pro or Suffix. Braids and superlines have very small diamters for their strenght compared to mono and fc lines. Your 30# spiderwire is probably close to the same diameter as your eagle claw mono. Most baitcasters can handle a wide variety of line sizes but smaller ones handle lighter lines better and larger ones handle heavy lines better. What size Ambassadeur do you have? (4600, 5600, 6600). I would pick up some Trilene XL line in 12# for your baitcaster, that is a good all around line for casting gear
  6. I was in my local Cabelas (Rogers, MN) the other day and decided to swing by the bargain cave when I see the sign "20% off all fishing equipment except electronics." I ended up leaving with a Shimano Curado 300DSV for $93 and Cabelas Fish Eagle II 6'6" Medium 2 pc casting rod for $40. I think they are both returns but appear to be in great condition (especially the Curado). I am still thinking about going back to pick up another reel I saw there - an Ambassadeur Record 60 that would end up being about $60.
  7. On my SJR783S I use 8# Gamma, 10# Gamma, and 30# Suffix braid. The 10# gets used the most.
  8. I used Gamma line all of last year and never had any problems. The only breaks I had were from poor knots. I think you will be fine w/ Gamma but the braid probably would be a better choice for the frogs.
  9. I am still interested in NASCAR. I think the it will pick up in the next few races. For a road race, Sunday's finish was pretty interesting. Racing goes on the back burner now though. Football season is here.Woooooooooooohh!!!

  11. I usually go with a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG, that's about all I own.

I almost always use 1/8oz weighted shank hooks on my fluke. I have caught more when weighted than unweighted. I even caught a sauger on one last fall.
  13. MH baitcasting (MBR783C) MH Spinning (SJR783S) ML Spinning (st. Croix triumph 6'6" ML)
  14. I wathced it. It was okay. The funniest part of the whole movie, IMO, was the very end.
  15. I used the Berkley plastic rod holders you can get at Wal MArt, Gander Mountain, etc. You mount them on the wall and you can store your rods vertically. They are not the best looking things, but it didn't matter to me. You could also get a nice wooden rod rack. Another option would be to build some PVC rod tubes. I have made three of these to keep my rods in while they were in my storage unit this summer. I put all the rods in Cabela rod socks then out them in the rod tubes.
  16. I agree with firefightn15, go down to 12# or even 10# line. I use a 4600 every once awhile and I can get pretty good casting distances. Also, your reel may need cleaning/lubricating.
  17. I would put more of your money on the rod. You could spend up to $150 on the rod and still have $50 left for a good used reel. Unless you just hate round reels I would get one of the 4600 Ambassaduers. It would be a good reel now and later on you could make it better (bearings, drags, etc)
  18. I like em just the way they are. I personally do not like the split grip for my casting rods, but I think I might like a spinning rod with the split grip.
  19. Check out the Reel Mechanics site. You can ge the bearings and drag washers from him or send your reel in and have it upgraded. If you haven't worked on reels before you may not want to do it yourself. I recently worked on an Ambassadeur 5600 and it was a good project but I'm sure a lp reel will be more difficlt.
  20. RW, how are you a Broncos AND Chiefs fan? I am a Raiders fan (don't laugh) and I could never root for one of the division rivals (except under a few circumstances).
  21. I went to Cabelas yesterday to get a new reel, I had been wanting a small spinning reel for bluegill and some small bass fishing. I had the intention of getting one of the Pfleugers (Medallist I think)that were on sale but ended up buying a Daiwa Exceler 1500. This reel just felt better to me than the Pflueger or the Symmetre I looked at. This seems like a lot of reel for $70, and is the first Daiwa spinning reel I have bought ( I own one advantage bc).

  23. Welcome aboard. I've been wanting to fish some of the lakes in Southern Illinois for awhile. I am across the river on the other side of Paducah.
