Same here. It comes from my mother. I remember her spending upwards of a half hour holding/swimming, and stoking the belly of pike that battled long against her light spinning gear. The few that didn't make it found themselves on the grill, even though we'd all preferred to have had perch or walleye. My wife is the same. Not unusual for her to yell at some pro on the TV to get that fish back in the water. Jimmy Houston gets yelled at quite a bit...lol

I'm not entirely certain. I always tend to buy worm style, because in my head, the skinnier weights with no shoulders will come through cover better. But I have never done a good on the water comparison with equal weights. When this thread started, I was using 3/16 mostly...didn't matter if it was wood, grass, rock.... I spent a few years downsized to 1/16 and 1/8 anytime the wind allowed. I'm finally getting my hard head turned around to comprehend that it pays to experiment a bit on any given day. I'm still not filully keyed into fall-rates, despite @Catt's best attempts to teach me. But I do concentrate much better on how a change in weight affects my presentation.

Maybe a combination of the dirty water I usually fish, and my stellar powers of observation, but I cannot think of more than a couple times that I actually saw bass that I thought were 'on beds'. But I don't look for them, either. Years ago, I watched a couple elite tournaments where elites (Powroznik was one, IIRC) each spent over 40 minutes on a single fish. Really turned me off from bed fishing. Not at all what I'm looking to experience while bass fishing. Even hooking a giant that has zero interest in eating, but only trying to move your stuff out of the bed doesn't interest me....doesn't feel like fishing to me.

Visited a an old favorite, small lake that I hadn't been to for a couple years. Surface temp 53. I was catching, but not much size: two on small twin buzzbait, otherwise, scattered bites with no pattern I could interpret. The grass really threw me. It was almost like my home lake in NC where they have already sprayed this year, dark and slimy. I seriously doubt they spray this lake, so maybe a mild winter prevented a 'normal' near complete die off....I don't know, but it made it hard to fish around/in, and nothing biting across the top of it. I did find myself in a small cove getting bit by a few 1-2 pounders. Remembering a recent thread here, I turned around and casted out behind, into over 20 fow, and dragged up to the weed line and found bigger fish hanging around 15'....a lot deeper than I expected.

No. But, I'd forgotten about Kalins. I had considered them sort of the gold standard for grubs. Though I haven't used them in years. I just took a look at the parent co. site, ACME Tackle, and I really like the portfolio. Aside from Kalins, they apparently acquired Uncle Josh and brought them back; they have Little Cleo and Kasmaster... Maybe scooping up small mfrs....or maybe allowing some to survive. I just might have to get some Kalins grubs. Thanks

Not sure if my issue is late or the magazine ad team is late, but just got this today. But what got my attention is that the pics show two rods....neither of which is a baitcaster... still looks a bit weird to me. May have been the only two spinning rods in the magazine, tho

If I have less than an hour, I'll fish from the dock. Any longer and I will be in a kayak or boat. I enjoyed some bank fishing when I didn't have them. But even then, if I could go someplace to rent a jon boat, I much preferred to be on the water. I was fortunate to have a number of different places within an hour where I could rent a boat.

Locking in tournaments; -Adds interesting strategic timing element? -Detracts from the competition? I have never locked in a tournament. But, to me, it seems like it might be a good idea to disallow it. Competitors fishing entirely different waters; somewhat unpredictable timing problems that lead to bad decisions; rule-breaking; time necessarily taken from fishing, etc. (That said, I don't think much of allowing hour plus runs to different rivers and lakes, either...like Sabine to Houston, or St Clair to Erie, 1000 Is. to Oswego, etc.)

Rule enforcement is always tricky. And, so is ruling based on intent. However, what galls me is that these idiots were so willful in their intent, (and unbothered by potential MLF tournament consequences) that they announced the plan to other competitors.

I used cheap Amazon SLA batteries for years. Some lasted a year, some two years. Couple years ago, I switched to lithium, and wish I had done so sooner. Don't let the cost of lithium deter you. It will pay for itself in its lifetime. It will charge faster. It will be lighter. More upfront cost, but better in every way....and cheaper in the long run

I like this take. I get that it is extraordinarily subjective, but I agree. It goes hand in hand with Randy's comments about wanting to be surprised when a fish bites. I think it is easy to imagine not so distant future technology that will allow 4K real-time video camera on every fish within 100 yards...or remote controlled lure that sends back video that you can drive to any fish you choose....Most everyone will have a point at which they say 'OK, that's far enough'... Somehow the community will need to agree on that tipping point... or oerhaps more likely, the various tournament owners and DNR's will help drive towards limitations

Don't recall Hamner registering in my mind until last couple weeks when he made the rounds on a few podcasts because of that tank he caught on Fork. I instantly became a fan. Truly likeable guy. Glad he got the Classic win.

Good day yesterday. Wind and rain much of the morning; surface temps 55*. Got some in backs of small coves on twin buzzbait and lizard early, then a few 3-4's on 5" paddletail/underspin fished tight to secondary points and main lake pockets, Got this 5 on a Rage Bug off wood in the back of a pocket. Around 1, the sun came out and spinnerbait killed it on windy flats.

I do not have FFS. But, a couple of mysteries I am hoping you folks might shed some light on in coming months and years: -What will we learn about bite windows? -Are there actually some bass that are more school oriented than we previously thought? We are learning more about bass behavior faster than ever before. It is hard to comprehend. The fact that tournaments are regularly dominated by anglers with zero consideration for structure or cover is sort of mind blowing.

Nice. I put one in my online shopping carts a few times, but haven't pulled the trigger. I haven't kept fish in years, but I think I need to catch and fry up some crappie one of these days.
