Jon Boat Reservoir Rig
The answer to your question about how many batteries you need depends on a lot of variables. Do you travel a lot on the reservoir and are on the TM a lot or do you anchor places? Do you fish on windy days? Best way to find out how many batteries you need is to go out and fish the way you fish normally with 1 battery and see how long you can fish on that one battery. If you need more batteries you can always buy more. I can't speak to hooking batteries up in series. That is something for someone else to answer.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Keep telling myself I'm not going to buy anymore lures and then I run across a local K-mart going out of business and.... The list is 3 packs of Craw Fatties, 3 packs of Deuces, 6 packs of Matzuo Wide Gap 4/0 hooks and a spool of 10 lb trilene mono for $28 bucks. Everything was over 60% off marked price.

Can your dog do this?
Call me when it grows up. It will make a lovely garbage can. Its not AI if it can't learn on its own as we intelligent beings can. Think about how a dog knows when it hears a refrigerator door open and close that its time to find its humans. It learned on its own.

Spring fishing jerk baits
And they work too. That was a cold spring day at Lake Wallenpaupack and this was the only LM I caught. The rest were SM. Made long casts and cranked it down then long pauses with short jerks in between.

Upgrading most of my arsenal, am I missing anything?
Looks good to me. You got the bases covered with some quality equipment. I would agree with updating the frog rod. Not a big fan of the Lightning rods when there are better rods for a little more money. But if you are on a budget those lightning rods will do.

Love the "Whoa" sign in the background. That's how you know you're in horse country.

Beginner Fly Fishing
My setup is a Fairplay 5 wt I use for trout and bass. Picked it up decades ago for about $50 and have had a lot of fun with it. Great rod for sunfish too. Like the above posts say, the reel is just to hold the line.

Can your dog do this?
Me too however I don't think anybody will ever truly develop artificial intelligence. I think its impossible to give something true intelligence. I believe intelligence is the sole domain of living things and not even all of those.

15.48 lb Bass
That is not necessarily a bad thing. Many times if a state tries too hard to manage a resource they end up ruining the experience of fishing such as when the implement restrictions on where and when you can fish certain bodies of water. It takes a good balance of control and "hands off" to build a good resource. Not many states can do it. For years in PA we couldn't fish for bass between March 1 and the 3rd Saturday in June. Now they stopped all that nonsense and allowed us to fish for bass anytime of the year but catch and release in the early season. When the lower Susquehanna river showed signs of distress in the SMB population in 2012 the state put restrictions in place to stop people from targeting bass early in the year. Its a fine wire that needs to be walked.

15.48 lb Bass
California is too busy trying to get rid of those pesky non-native species instead of putting resources into breeding bigger bass to bring in the fishing dollars. Texas is way ahead of most states as far as capitalizing on trophy bass fisheries. Its also one of my dream destinations.

Can your dog do this?
This part reminds me of my sister's dog. Back in the 80's when car doors had door lock knobs my sister use to take her dog everywhere. She would leave the dog in the car briefly and lock the door. When she would try to unlock the door with her key the dog kept pushing the knob back down, locking the door again. The dog did this so routinely that friends and neighbors would gather around her car to see if the dog was gonna let her in or not. And when the dog locked the door on her you could hear from a block away everyone laughing.

I like and use the Norman Little N in watermelon craw and redear. They dive about 6-8 ft. depending on line size. Also Bomber Model A cranks dive to 6+ depending on line size. I mostly use dark green crawdad or smallmouth bass.- This is the Truth!
- Lake Conroe
Are there any "bad" bass lakes in Texas? Seems like Florida to me. Every mudhole has a good chance of holding a 10 lber. We've seen what Conroe can offer at the BASS event. Looks like a trophy lake to me. I'd kill to drop a line in that lake.- School of flukes

Besides the reasons mentioned above don't forget about family life. Many of the "old guys" have spent decades on the road, traveling from one place to the next and simply see family as more important than they use to when they were younger. Its a tough life to put so much of your time and energy into one thing with very little time for anything else. We all have jobs and lives outside of those jobs with a somewhat equal balance. Professional anglers don't. Its a constant grind that many older anglers don't want to do anymore. So they may not practice for all of the events or choose a granddaughters birthday over time on the lake. Priorities change the older you get.- New guy from PA
