  1. Franco summed it up perfectly. Van staal are great reels but they are designed for salt water: surf casting for striped bass or offshore for bluefin tuna. Very popular in cape cod MA.
  2. Matt. I have the same question. I’m heading up at the end of May. My plan is to hire a guide on my first day and basically hit the same areas the following days. Please post how you did and good luck.
  3. Alec. Whatever jigs you choose don’t go crazy with colors. 3-4 different colors should do. Black and browns are my staples. Stained water black/blue is a must. Clear water match the craws: Brown with red or green. As for weight 3/8 and 1/2 oz is a good place to start. Goid luck!
  4. Early season when they molt they tend to be red/orange. I’d try something like this. But the only way to really know is to catch one. Go out the night before and scan any rocky shoreline.
  5. 55 days until April.....
  6. Get some cylinder weights, a couple split rings and make a jika rig. Same thing as the Tokyo rig. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-PICASOTT.html?from=basres Try this with an oval split ring
  7. Just connect a dipsey weight to the split ring and make a jika rig. No need for the wire at all. Vmc is catching fisherman at $4 each https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-TTDSW.html?from=basres
  8. I use the tables as much as I can... me: Honey, I know I told you I’d work on my honey-do list Sunday BUT it’s the best day to fish this month!!!! Just look at this table!!!!
  9. That’s great! I’m surprised TW took care of it for you. I’ve always had to send mine back to the rod company...but it’s only happened to me twice
  10. I always lean towards lures, many already mentioned above. I'd add joes flys to the list of spinners. Powerbait definity works but they tend to swallow it so you might kill the fish. If you go that route I'd suggest trying salmon eggs also. Pautzkes fireballs.

Grab a cooler. They are top notch. Field & stream ranked them #1. I think the 60 qt keeps ice for 10+ days.
  12. As Scott says above try to find a store where you'll be able to try out different brands i have a predator pedal. I love it. I got it at the annual boat show in Boston for $2400 and it included a healix 5 fishfinder. I only have experience with hobie and olde town and the hobie was about $300 more and it didn't include the fishfinder Pro for me: reverse, just pedal backwards. I think the hobie you need to reverse the pedals. i find the predator more comfortable. Seat seems too low for me in the hobie (I could probably upgrade seat but that would probably add another $100). con: Predator is heavier but I have a pick up truck and the extra 20lbs is not an issue for me. Good luck!!
  13. What's your budget? I agree with a medium fast rod 6'6" to 7 foot range and either a 2500 or 3000 spinning reel but this set up could go from $100 - $1000 with that said the dobyns sierra rod is in sale at TW for a little over $100. Lots of sales this time of year. Good luck

Thats the price of the big Stellas (18000/20000) that are used for blue fin tuna. A blue fin over 250 lbs will melt almost any other reel. Diawa and van stahl make comparable reels and they are about the same price. If you buy a Stella for bass fishing you're crazy...or got money to burn. That's an older model Stella hooked up to a blue fin
  15. I don't have the levante but I have a couple orochi's and I love them. Only thing is they are not as heavy as their rating. Med/hev is more like medium.
  16. I love my fury but the sierra is on sale at the same price as the fury on TW. I'd return the fury and get the sierra if they have the model in stock.
  17. Whatever rod you buy you should wait for the rod trade-in offer they have in February. You'll save up to $50. And if they don't have the rod you want they should be able to ship it to the store.
  18. My favorite "off the shelf" rod is the GLX but at that price point I'd look into a custom. I haven't tried the NRX because I haven't found a good enough discount. If you are patient you can find great sales around Xmas time....I personally won't buy a rod in that price range unless I'm getting at least 20% off retail. I also really like my megabass rods but the models I have are lighter power than the rating Good luck!
  19. Don't forget about the fishing license.
  20. My friend caught a couple rainbows. They must be recently stocked. When he fileted them they had this white tumor looking thing in them. Anyone encounter this before? The fishes color was darker than the other ones he caught. They were caught in mass
  21. If $400 is your price point go custom. Don't buy a shelf rod. I have a glx and an nrx but I got them much cheaper than their retail price. Both are great but if your fishing bottom contact I'd lean towards the nrx.
  22. https://www.onthewater.com/fishing-reports/2014/10/597-pound-tuna-landed-spinning-tackle not sure how the F capt dom landed this monster. it's the biggest on spinning gear I'm aware of. But if anyone can do it.....it's him or Bobby rice. If if you live close to cape cod call those guys and get out there. It will most likely be the best fishing day of your life. Pm me if you need more info
  23. Great fish!!! I love the spinning gear but landing a fish over 300lbs is a BATTLE that is tough to win and will leave you sore as F. I've been spooled by giants and it sucks.....not to mention losing $120 of line/leader. If you think bass fishing is expensive ......don't go for tuna.
  24. Call or use Facebook and get in touch with coastal charter sport fishing. Bluefin fishing is great this time of year. They use light tackle so eat your wheaties. Tell capt dom that DR sent ya.
