  1. Have never got to use any Lucky Craft baits, can't comment on them. Like bass wrangler said when you go below X-raps (lesser degree Husky Jerks) performance drops. My experience, other baits won't run as true or suspend as well... skillet
  2. Walked up to a small lake near my house. The wind was blowing towards the bank I started at. Using Mepps #3 caught 15 fish on 16 casts . No way were they what you would call "keepers". Probably only 4 or 5 were. You didn't qualify size ... skillet
  3. Rigged "backwards" is the way to go. Rigged this way they actually drop at an angle(away from you). GREAT action ... skillet
  4. Thanks for the input my friends ! I hadn't thought of using the pedistals :-[DUUH. I was actually thinking of making a frame like a tent. Two pieces running from bow to stern on the sides and one over the top from bow to stern. Leave it to me to complicate something beyond belief ... skillet
  5. Anyone out there ever made a frame with PVC for your boat cover. This would be to hold it up to shed water and such better. If so, what size did you use... skillet
  6. RW is bound to chime in on this one, sooner or later. Like you said hooked backwards with 4/0 EWG Gammi hook. I skin-hook mine ... skillet
  7. MAN!!!! It was sure GREAT to see your name on a post again! WELCOME BACK! ... skillet
  8. You might be waiting too long to set the hook. There's not a lot of time between setting the hook right, the bass swallowing the hook or spitting it back out! Work on feeling ANY changes in your line. Until you've got it down, pay attention to removing the hook the best way ... skillet
  9. IMHO the best time to go fishing or even if it is worth it, is whenever you can get to a lake. Take what you feel the most confidence in. Senkos would be great ... skillet
  10. Have had my 2500 for a couple of years now and can only say GOOD things about it. Unbelievable how smooth the drag is... skillet
  11. Bought a Bronzeye Frog and used it for the first time the other day. The action didn't seem that much different from other frogs I've used. I've read on the forums about cutting one of the legs shorter than the other to make it walk. Was wondering how much difference you make them. Also, any other tips or techniques on this bait would be greatly appreciated ... skillet
  12. I started out spin casting (Zebco 33) after using same gear for Bream. The 1st bait I bought was a Mepps #3. I think it was a bucktail with silver blade. Caught a lot of Bass with it before trying something else. You can work them by casting them out and reeling them straight back in. This will catch fish or you can twitch them with rod tip, yo-yo or retrieve them fast enough to keep them just under the surface making a bulge in the water. Other than getting hung-up easily GREAT lure for just starting out. On top of all that they are pretty inexpensive, $3 and change. They WILL catch Bass ... skillet
  13. Chris, glad to see you're still like the rest of us every now and then ;D. Would agree with you but it's still kind of a crap shoot when I leave the house with all my gear :-[... skillet
  14. I take it in stages (phases of the moon, or something :-/). I can stay away from Bass Pro (fishing dept. at Walley World) for ages and use what I've got. Then, I wake up one morning and all my money is gone, a big burnt hole in my pocket and all these new lures and stuff in a bag next to me. Then it hits me, I have no memory of what happened to my money or how all this stuff got here :-[... skillet
  15. Thanks for the pic Avid. Micro, thanks for the explanation. Couldn't count the number of times I've heard "you won't see any small snakes where there are big bass". In all the time I've been fishing, I've NEVER seen a bass hit a swimming snake... skillet
  16. You might try some spinner baits (gold colored Col. blades). They put off lot of flash and vibration. Use baits that depend on something other than sight on the fish's part. Baits that use sound (rattles), vibration (spinners) or move more water (larger baits). The last one might be considered vibration. Hope this helps some ... skillet
  17. Just got in from fishing small farm pond with a Super Fluke. I used a 3/0 EWG hook and weightless. Spinning gear with 6lb Yo Zuri ultrasoft. Caught 5 small (1-1/2 lb) and a real nice chunky 4lber that cut up a lot ! Really GREAT bait (it's my usual setup for flukes)... skillet
  18. Glad you decided to join!. At the top of the page (fishing articles, tacklebox) you can click on and there is a ton of info for getting started. Read up and you can ask more specific questions. Lot easier to help you that way ... skillet
  19. It would depend entirely on if the fish were hitting the lure I was using before sunrise (nothing like stating the obvious, hunh ). I'll change if the wind conditions change. The more ripple on the surface the more I like a bait to cut up. Like going from a lure with no spinners to one with spinners if the wind picks up... skillet
  20. Don't know about drilled spool "why add extra weight for nothing". IMHO a reel that is filled to 1/8" has a larger circumference than one filled half way. It is further around a large circle than a smaller one, therefore more line coming off spool each time it makes a circle when you cast... skillet
  21. The BaitMonkey hasn't intimidated me enough to start using swimbaits. Reading the reviews on here from other members, his baits are pretty much the "go to" for that type of fishing ... skillet
  22. skillet replied to BriBass's topic in Fishing Tackle
Wish I could stick with one jig but I lose too many :-[. I usually go with the most inexpensive ones that looks good in my favorite colors. If I trim them (sometimes) I cut them on an angle 1/16 to 1/8 above the point of the hook. You can thin the weed guards at the jig head or hold the weed guard and fan the weed guard to the sides (or all of the above ;D). Like most everything in bass fishing, just your preference ... skillet
  23. No personal experience but have read some GOOD things. I have a 6'MH Berkley Bionix spinning rod got on clearance. Of course there are better rods out there, but at the price, I'd give it a try ... skillet
  24. IMHO if you have enough slack in your line not to see it move toward you, you have too much slack... skillet
  25. Don't care for the "power hump" myself. 120-150 grit sandpaper used as if you were shining your shoe cures that problem ... skillet
