  • This thread just reinforces the adage; "Buy a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll buy a silly hat"

  • I think  the flat bills are down right goofy looking .

  • And on the other end of the melon size scale, I have to wear a 'youth' hat because I have a peanut size squash. And the color options available are always a just a little bit zany . . .

Like some others here, I have had a few bouts with skin cancer. I wear this hat every time I fish. The sun ain't nothing to play with.

Years ago I always wore a ball cap when fishing, then changed to Sunday Afternoon light weight venture hat to maximum sun protection about 15 years ago. When walking or traveling I usually wear a Tilley full brim hat. Probably have dozens ball caps from various ships I worked on, tackle companies and sport teams that I wear occasionally.

Fishing full brim.

I wear ball caps, mostly camo. I shape the bill by hand. I wouldn't wear a flatbill if you gave me one

Safari style hat. See profile pic. More protection from sun.

Used to always wear a ball cap, but nowadays pretty much everyone in my boat wears these, can’t have enough protection when it comes to the sun.

I have a couple of wide brim straw hats that I wear when it gets really hot out.

Tilley T3 Cotton Duck, full brim.

Underneath it reads:

"It floats, ties on, repels rain, blocks UV rays, won't shrink, and comes with a four-page owner's manual ... Handcrafted with Canadian Persnicketiness."

In 2018 I wore a lot of the Huk Caps and also a few off brand Wide Brim round hats, but now it’s cold and I sport the Adidas Climalite Beenie, keeps the noggin toasty !

Aren't they supposed to be hanging from the hitch receiver on the back of the Ram?! ;)

I wear a BPS ball cap. The only time I wear a hat is when i'm fishing. I really need to be looking at some of the other styles that offer a lot more sun protection.

I'm wondering if my Fedora would be a bit better than a ball cap.

Ya can give me one...I'll just shape the bill before I put it on!

Found a Tilly that fit and wear it in summers...have two baseball style hats that I treasure as my head is almost an eight so hard to find hats that fit well.

The style of a fishing hat is of zero importance.  The ONLY THING that matters is the LUCK that said hat provides.

Now that this thread has been moved to the fishing tackle forum, I would like to offer more insight into the flat brimmed cap.

I cast farther with it on, and you will too.  ;)

I believe this is true.

I have LOTS of hats but I wear the same 3 all the time when I go fishing. They are my lucky caps.

I've never believed in luck when it comes to fishing. Either you've found the spot and used the right lures, or it's a learning experience. 'Luck' - to me anyway - is an excuse.

The power of a lucky hat is real my friends. The owner of the KY Lake resort we vacation at gave me a resort hat a couple years ago. I wore it while fishing on 2 consecutive days and never caught a bass. Put a different hat on and caught bass the rest of the week. Now I wear that hat the day I arrive at the resort and the day I leave. But never while fishing.

It's only weird if it doesn't work........

I have to have an adjustable hat because XL isn't big enough for my head.

Me too. I have a hard time finding hats that fit.
