Winter 2020-2021

Featured Replies

I like to brag that I catch bass in all twelve months here. Barely made Jan. with a few smalls and one keeper early in the month. Feb. is starting out less than promising. I can remember years that ice out didn't happen until March. Could happen this year.

I managed this two of last three years. SE Mass & Cape Cod don’t always freeze over.

‘21 might be tough. I caught a single yellow perch in January, and with this cold snap might be locked out of February.

Good luck getting yours.

Yep the frost in the ground is really starting to set in now, the water mains are really starting to burst around here! Job security I guess. ?

We had the one in front of my house go last winter. Didn't care for the geyser in front of my driveway. Hopefully they fixed it right. ?

I’ve seen some good ones over the years, that’s for sure!

The best one was on 44th street in Grand Rapids. It was around midnight and a 16 inch (I believe) high pressure water main, there were two and they didn’t know which one was the right one was to shut off, so it took a bit. It destroyed the road and left a huge crater and ultimately took 3 days to repair everything.

That one was fun. I imagine @lo n slo has some good stories of water main breaks.

we had an old 12” cast iron main blow out on us one night about a half block from an elevated storage tank. we couldn’t get the water completely killed either, worked all night on that one.

Do you miss playing in the mud fixing water mains in the middle of the night?

Got a slick glaze of freezing rain last night and now there's a coating of snow on top.  Its like a skating rink out there this morning.  And its not going to melt anytime soon either with the arctic blast coming.

I just hope I get my Instacart delivery with the slick roads.

I let the dog out and she was slipping all over the place on the sidewalk.  I was like "whoa"

Still planning on going fishing tomorrow.  We are getting snow right now...?

Thank god the big lake is still open or we’d have those temps too. Windchills Sunday for us is -19.

Ya gotta love that last sentence!

"A storm tracking across the region spread 2 to 5 inches of snow across much of the region, but one of the bigger factors was strong winds that caused the snow to blow and drift. Roads were "completely covered" with snow around the time of the accident, according to the Iowa DOT, and travel was not advised.

It is unclear if weather was a factor in the cause of the crash."

Got some single digit highs and negative digit lows coming next week. I hate it when winter can't just get here when it's suppose to and decides to show up right when I'm hoping things will start to make a turn for the better.

  • Global Moderator

Looks like we got 6-8” of the white stuff last night. The wind is howling and the snow is very lite so drifting is the main issue these next couple days.

Winter is finally here! ?
