One Texas rig plastic….FOREVER

Featured Replies

Hey all, I’ve been killing it on the t rig all summer and looking back at it all, i ran through 4 bags of Zoom Ultravibe Speed Worm’s. I use this on a MH MF with 15# InvisX always with a 1/8 tungsten bullet weight. If I was stuck to only one soft plastic for Texas rig, it hands down goes to the speed worms.

Here’s my question: If you were stuck to only one soft plastic for all your t rigging duties, what would it be? Doesn’t matter if it’s a creature, worm, craw or whatever. Also what setup and weight would you throw it on?

  • Very hard to choose only one, but I think I'll go with a Mr. Twister Phenom- 6". Good worm all around, and I can trim it down to make a finesse worm if need be.

Ultra Molds Sweet Craw 3.5". It's a beaver style bait. Has a nice meaty body with no hook slot so it holds a flippin hook really well. I can fish that thing through the nastiest tangles without hanging up, and it catches the fire out of bass of all sizes. Hands down my MVP since getting those molds.

I also weld a hula skirt to 'em and fish 'em on a jig head. Killer bait in all water temps. So, not only T rigged, if I could only fish one bait, this would be it.

I tried I really did but can't narrow it down to one, a strike king rage tail craw can be #1, or a 5" stickbait in the right color can be magic, but now these tube craws have seduced me and the fish both. All T-Rig with 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook weighted or unweighted depends where they are at in the water column.

UV Speed worm is killer, But if I had just one, it would be a big Lizard. Fished as is, or customized with scissors, it can be anything from a creature to a chubby finesse cut tail.

3.8 inch Geecrack Bellows on an 1/8 oz pegged Texas rig. Throw it into the weeds almost like a jig worm and barely move/almost dead stick it. The scent is so strong the fish come and find it. If the bite is tough and the fish are stuck to the inside of the deeper weeds, it works like nothing else.

Reaction Innovations Spicy Beaver, 1/4 oz weight, pegged or not pegged depending on what I want it to do.

My #1 bait is the Zoom U-Tail 6” worm in junebug. That ribbon tail is deadly! Thrown with a 6’6” MH-F with 20# braid to 10# mono, 3/16 billet weight and a 2/0 gamakastu offset round bend hooks. I throw this onto and around brush and fallen trees and they usually hit on the fall.

Zoom Z Craw Jr in black and blue flake. It's always been a consistent bait in dirtier water.

Lake Fork Ring Fry

There's a local bait shop that makes a killer 6" ribbon tail worm, and I'm a huge fan of their tequila sunrise color. That specific worm, on a 3/0 offset worm hook, with a 1/8oz tungsten weight would be mine.

I have a Trig all year round with me and 3/8oz with 5" Stick bait, Today is 5" Junbug Senko but I just start to change it to maxscent general to see how it will work.

I guess I’m the outlier, as I don’t remember the last time I caught a bass on a T-rig. Only a couple baits I ever used when I did throw one - a 10” Power Worm and a 4” BPS Stud Fry. Guessing I’d still go with one of those two, though in my case, it really doesn’t matter. A 3/16 wt and a 3/0-4/0 EWG hook with either.

Thanks all for putting your thoughts in. My close second would be a brush hog but for some reason it fell off for me this year.

I’ve also been getting many birds nest on t rigs with my fluoro this year for some reason. Thinking about switching to mono. Any suggestions on a good mono for t rigs?

Well, I guess the easy part is the hardware, 4/0 Owner Offset Roundbend hook, 1/4oz tungsten bullet weight, probably a Swagger but whatever is on sale works great too, the tough part would be the plastic, I like using a ton of different baits for Texas Rigs, Most of the BioSpawn lineup, Reaction Innovations Sweet/Smallie Beavers, Zoom Trick Worms and Ultravibe Speed Craws, Grande Bass Airtail Wigglers and Rattlers, Yum Dingers...every last one of them catches fish pretty well, guess if I absolutely had to pick it would either be an exostick or a plasma tail, the creature baits, curly tails and craws all have a time and a place, but stick baits and straight tail worms are pretty much year round winners anywhere I've ever fished and that is cross species as well.
