GIN clear

Featured Replies

Folks please stop referring to clear water as gen clear. The correct term is gin clear, as in the alcoholic beverage Gin.  Don’t want to sound like a rant but I see this word used incorrectly so often in posts and it really grates on me.

If you understand what people are saying then I don't see how it matters. The whole point of language is to communicate with each other in a way we understand. This grammatical error has to be one of the most irrelevant I've seen.

Exactly. This place is for info and fun..this isn't my job so I'm not always at the top of my spelling or punctuation game. We don't need the grammar police cruising around.

Agreed, this site is very informative and for the most part light-hearted. I’m not trying to be the grammar police.  But what does the term GEN mean to anyone? I guess I have seen it too many times and tonight it just annoyed me. Long week…

I get enough grammar police with my on-line published writing...don't need it here too.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone refer to very clear water as "gen" clear? It's always been the proper term of gin clear.

Either way, I don't like the sound of fishing water that's extremely clear.

For bass...no...stained or 'dirty' is better.

For rainbow or lake trout...definitely want it clear as possible.

One lake I always caught nice rainbow on up in northern MN was clear enough you could see the bottom at 30'+.

So uh...what's the penalty for using Gen instead of gin? If it's prison where I get three hots and a cot and somebody else has to pay for it...where can I sign up?

The bigger problem is people describing a waterbody as "gin clear" that is definitely not gin clear.

Millennials, marsupials, you know what I mean....

Ironically, gin is the only thing I refuse to drink.

I'll occasionally have a gin & tonic, but my regular drink is Irish Whiskey...neat.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone refer to water as gen clear.  Always been gin clear wherever I've seen it.

If you ever had too much gin to drink you you would wish is was gen instead.

I've actually never had gen. I'm ginerally drinking Scotch, Jameson, or craft beer.

Can't blame the recipients (millennials) for receiving (participation trophies) what the others (Gin X) created.

. . . And here I was thinking “gin clear” is a state of mind.

Fished "gin-clear" lake in Washington many years ago when visiting a buddy...we didn't catch a d**n thing...could see the bottom...in 20 feet of water!!! The Smallies were not cooperating that day.

That's a pretty inexpensive fine in the grand scheme of things...I shall resume misspelling words with impunity!
