New guy from Piedmont area of NC

Hello everyone,

I've lurked on these forums and watched the videos long enough, and figured it was time to post an introduction. Absolutely love this site and all the education it has provided for me thus far! I got into fishing 10 years ago after getting my first setup for Fathers Day. Before I knew it I was addicted lol. It caused some issues with my family, and rather than having a resentful wife and kids feeling forced to do something they didn't want to, I stopped. Time passes, and we have a 3rd child. This past summer, that 3rd child asked me to teach them to fish after our local water park closed for the season. In fact, we were at the park the last day they were open, and on the way home I bought her first spincaster.

Well, that reignited my interest in fishing and I remembered how much I enjoyed it. Now, I have a fishing buddy, and my wife is way more understanding to me doing my thing since I let her basically do what she wants. Besides, my old hobbies just weren't doing it for me anymore. Now, we have a rigged out canoe, and we go out at least once a week to fish. I rotate kids; but the other 2 aren't as into it as my youngest.

All that being said, I only really have a year and a half of actual fishing experience. Since this past summer, I've gone from spinning gear to baitcasting, and also have a bait finesse setup for my lighter stuff.  Its been one massive learning experience, but I still have yet to catch and land a bass. I've technically caught 2, but one I was over zealous about boating it and the 6lb line snapped before I could get it boated. This past Tuesday, finally caught one on a ned rig, but I was using a light power rod and my hookset wasn't sufficient.

I have my ups and downs with the hobby, but I love doing it so much because I can just get away either alone or with my little fishing buddy and forget about all the BS going on nowadays. Anyway, long winded post and I'm sorry about that lol. I'm here to learn from the great folks that created this site, and its members. I'm sure I'm not alone in my semi-frustration with bass fishing. But I've learned a lot and I think its starting to click!

  • Finally figured out how to use a search bait efficiently and properly
  • I thought I was fishing slow, but apparently it wasn't slow enough (when it comes to my finesse rig)
  • Gotta quit fishing the same spot for over 30 minutes if I haven't got as much as a nibble!
  • Gotta remain patient or I'll get sloppy in my technique. Plus I noticed bass fishing is a lot of trial and error as they're finicky creatures lol
  • Change things up more frequently as I tend to stick to one bait or color for the whole day

Anyway, hello, and thanks for reading my long introduction. As I said before, I'm here to learn and keep on learning. Regardless, I'll always love fishing and never giving it up again!
