I have a medium heavy setup I use for chatterbaits, small jigs, swim jigs, spinnerbaits and Texas rigs. To me this screams 15-20 lb flouro, and The reel is a 6.3 ratio which I know isn’t ideal but I have to work with what I got. What would you use?

I just spent a month researching the best Chatterbait setup, and here's what I ended up with

 

Daiwa Zillion SV TW 1000 6.3 JDM 

Alpha Angler 7'2 Chatterbound rod

P-Line Ultimate Fluorocarbon 15lb  

 

Nothing wrong at all with a 6.3 for Chatterbaits, and yes I don't think you're going to find a better line choice than 15-20lb high quality Fluorocarbon for this application.

 

Translates bites on slack lines when Yo Yoing them fantastically, excellent knot strength, has more stretch than braid which is very advantageous for a moving bait, and I've found it to be very abrasion resistant, more so than my fishing needs require.   It's the perfect option imho.   

Thanks! I also like the abrasion resistance of flourocarbon, will be useful with jigs in the mountain reservoirs near me.

I like to use the thinnest diameter I feel like I can get away with. For your use, I'd say that's .33 mm / .013 inches diameter. Some brands that's 12#, others 15#.

 

It is personal preference though, with experience you'll find what works best for you. 

I am braid to leader so 40lb braid to 16lb mono leader.

15lb FC. My personal favorite is Tatsu. Pricey but great line.

I’ll have to pay closer attention to that when shopping!

Chatters and spinners for me are on 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid - same line I use for my crankbaits.

40# Sufix 832 or 131.

Depending on the size of the chatterbait, either 10# or 15# Big Game.

Mono or copoly. I'm only using FC on shakey heads and t rigs these days. Braid for Ned's, mono, and copoly for everything else.

Also, if I was to use flouro, would line conditioner help? I have had bad line memory problems in the past, but this might change my mind about it

Only line I don't use conditioner on is Braid.

 

And it's always KVD L&L.

I throw mine on a MH/F that's a liiitle on the slower side of fast, 30lb braid to a 15lb mono leader, 6.3:1 reel. It works pretty well for how I like to fish them.

15lb Big Game

I use 15 lb copoly. I am a big fan of fluorocarbon but I never felt the benefits were worth the cost for spinnerbaits or chatterbaits and I would never consider braid for those techniques. 

Personally I prefer a 6.3.  I honestly cant remember the last fish I lost because he knocked too much slack in my line. For most rods I use I like 15lb InvizX.  I have used Big Game in the past and although it has a little more stretch my landing % is just as good or slightly better.

That’s the exact same setup, except for my MH is on the gated side of fast

12lb or 15lb CXX.

I think it depends a lot on cover and trailer. Weeds, 1/2oz with a zako, is like .83oz, casts better on a light-ish heavy and fishes better too. Braid to leader to snap weeds off. No cover, 3/8oz with a small trailer might make for a MH glass rod with 12lb flouro. 

 

Anyway my point is what worked for me was to just keep trying different stuff, because theres so much personal preference and situation in the decision.

 

IMO there are a couple of setups that are bad ideas - stretchy line on a floppy crankbait rod, and braid/leader on a broomstick. 

 

I find that my swimjig setups and chatterbait setups are pretty much the same thing. 

16# Sniper for me. If I really wanna rip it thru grass I'll throw them on a braid setup. 

Mono!!!  for everything.
