He does seem to "find" an aweful lot of them doesn't he? I think he flashes his badge at the ramp, and confiscates peoples tackle boxes as evidence related to his "investigation" into an international tackle smuggling cartel. Again, I have no evidence, but it's "plausible".

Does a newer boat count as fish monkeys? Because my wife bought me a 2017 tracker for Christmas. Then the weekend that I got it before this past Christmas, I convinced her to buy me a new depth finder for the boat for my birthday which is in until May. So does that count as fish monkey?

Meanwhile, I ain't convinced anybody to buy an iRod, and I can promise them that they are missing out. If they held a Harold's Lone Star or 704C, they would know what I'm talking about.

Maybe I'll have to buy an Ark rod sometime. I almost did; a while back I sent you a message about potentially using one for c-rigging

I did buy an iRod Genesis once. Bub's punch rod. Great rod. I've since replaced it with the 7'11" Expride. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another iRod tho. I was eyeballing the Air series a while back.

I don't think so. If roadwarrior was in charge of the monkey, he'd have moved that high end BFS rig in no time.

If your theory of a mod controlling the monkey is correct, my money's on @TnRiver46. He claims to only fish with found lures, used line recovered from trees and untangled, and $2 yard sale combos, meanwhile he's sicking the monkey on all the rest of us poor unsuspecting folks. Not an accusation mind you, just a theory. I have absolutely zero evidence to support it, but it's plausible. ?

I really do appreciate all the bad casters in the area. Whoever lost the MB 110 that I found last week pretty much made my day.

I need to start videoing my lure hunting trips, they've been more eventful than my fishing trips lately ?

*Since I was committed to the : " Restful Meadows Institution" -Bait Monkey Ward I have served three different solitary confinement stints for breaking the rules : The first time was when I got caught smuggling in Berkley Frittside Crankbaits in between layers of a cake , the 2nd time was when the BPS Spring Fishing Extravaganza brochure got sent here to inmate #BM06528 (me) ... Yeah , I now know that was stupid - but I just had to see the new lures ! Lastly , a friend smuggled in some PP # 80 lb. braid I was going to use to strengthen bed sheets tied together to make my escape - but I again got caught ... Now for punishment I get to watch the same video loop over and over again of using dough balls fishing for catfish (I'm slowly losing my mind !)

I'm into the bait monkey so deep that my knees are guaranteed to be be broke by next tuesday at the latest.

The world will never know.

Lures, rods, reels, boats, lines and electronics are nothing but toys for grown ass men.

The bait monkey deserves tribute.  Nothing wrong with that.

Reminds me of when I used to goto the toy section of a store with the rows of lego sets, hot wheels and transformers hanging on the wall.  Didn't have the resources to get what I want then but now its on like Donkey Kong.   Then their are other tackle junkies that write about it which further pushes the obsession to another level.

My vote goes to TackleJunkie the Youtuber. Dude seems to regularly have thousand dollar orders coming in of everything imaginable in every size/colour. May be a legitimate hoarder. I think he said he doesn't even get to fish that often.

Even when he unboxes something and comments I'm thinking that there's zero chance he could ever use 80% of the stuff he buys.

I've got a decent little tackle collection. I think i could stop buying tackle for atleast 20+ years and not be completely out of everything. That being said. It will NEVER happen

I’ve literally made myself go broke to buy gear. The week before last, I bought a rod and didn’t even have the money for lunch for the rest of the week.

Tired of tripping over tackle everywhere in my basement and garage. Starting to cull and limit what I buy. Spent about $50 for lures in the last 3 months. Only thing I need is line and bullet weights.

Allen

I was finally able to get rid of the monkey this pre-season... and all I had to do is buy a Motorguide Xi3 for my kayak... and its gone, have not bought even a worm pack..

That will show him..

Until they decide to melt for some unknown reason and all get deformed and stuck together and he has to throw 3 dozen bags away like I did last fall ?‍♂️

I'm trying to be the anti-Bait Monkey and stopped posting pictures when I buy new baits. I also stopped looking at the thread for all the new purchases and sales, it's too hard to fight that urge and I like having new toys to play with.

Curious as to what you think might have triggered this? Hot day locked in boat compartment, vehicle or home storage area? Any cross contamination with other baits, scents or various oils/ liquids? Maybe just the mysterious voodoo of the bait monkey?

I'd say heat but they've been out so many times before in the heat with no issues. I never take them out other of the original pack except to use them so cross contamination shouldn't have been an issue, especially for that many packs.

The bait monkey: I probably fly under the radar simply because I have over 700 that I don't fish of the Rebel variety.

As for the fishers, as I've gotten older and figured out what works for me I have scaled back. I fun fish except for twice a year (charity tournaments) and usually can fish the way I want. I try very few new things and add even fewer to my core group.

One turning point was unopened packs of baits from the 80's in the year 2011. It was ridiculous.  The other turning point was these are tools and some tools are more equal than others.

So I'm happily not in contention but still have all I need.

I'm not sure if that counts, but I am sure it means you are one of the luckiest men alive, your wife is a saint, and I would vote for her if she ran for president.

I’ve spent a lot of money on bait and tackle this past year and so don’t even come close to what some people on BR are spending.

I look at this way  - if you could open a small bait and tackle shop with the stuff you have not even opened yet, you might have a problem ?

That last line sounds like a new stand up routine for Jeff Foxworthy.
