Headwaters guide pulls a gun on another!

A guide pulls a gun on another guide because he is fishing his spot.  Stupid is what stupid does!  Can you imagine if you hired this guy.  One minute of stupidity could ruin a bunch of lives.  There are consequences for your stupidity!

I don't carry a gun.  Many people I know do. I do have one in my home.  I would rather let "godforsaken gun-toting bubbas" carry guns than be at the mercy of criminals.  My guess is most of our critic

Can you stand your ground, even if it's covered in water?...

So what was the result of that ? I assume he was arrested?

Be interesting to see which guide it was.
Do you have a link?

I sure would be interested to read an account of this incident seeing as how we just got back from there a week ago.  All of the guides we ran into were friendly and helpful if you asked.  Now where we were staying in Blue Cypress there was a murder scene at a residence along the highway on our way to the cottages.  We passed it everyday.  Command center, vans, police cars, etc. One lane of the highway shut down.

Tommy Biffle isn't a little bi#$&...he doesn't need a gun. He'd just beat you to death with a flipping stick. In all seriousness this is pathetic and sad if true. I realize a guide is fishing for a living...but still its just fishing. If money is so tight that one not perfect guide trip is gonna break you maybe its time to get a regular job.

It's amazing that a green fish can ignite life threatening situations, wow.

The amount of times I've seen the use and potential use of guns talked about in regards to simply fishing is disturbing. It's even happened here several times since I've been here, usually involving trespassing. Like imagine taking a life because someone walked through your property to get down to a bank to fish. That land you'd kill for won't matter much in prison.

There is no excuse but you have to remember the guides on Headwaters are seriously on the proverbial gravy train.  They can almost guarantee clients new personal bests drowning shiners on that lake.  It’s going to bring out the worst in them. Not to say there probably are guides who have no business on the water there as well.

Part of being a licensed captain is submitting to a drug test. Sounds like this guy is overdue.

Until they make licensing a requirement on inland waters, anyone who can float a boat can claim to be one.  I’d wager a lot of clients are not verifying insurance either.

The state of FL is open carry when fishing or fishing related traveling. No surprise he was armed but the likely hood of another being armed is just as great.

Bingo, this hothead idiot should go home and thank his lucky stars he wasn't shot which would have been justified then by the other party.

Down here in the South, especially around outdoorsman, the chances of someone carrying are great.

There is a guy on YT that uses a G17 to kill Lionfish in FL ?

It ain't just down south brother. OH and all of it's surrounding states except PA are constitutional carry states. The percentage of armed fisherman is high.

Yeah you're right, CC states are finally winning at this point I think, meaning more are than aren't.

To be honest I never even thought about carrying on the water until this thread.   There is that famous Bassmaster Classic event down in LA IIrc where some angler got shot at by a homeowner in some backwater place.

Our CC law just went into effect in Jan.   My good friend's father was shot point blank with a .45 over a parking place on XMAS eve in front of his whole family.....dude who shot him was justified, and never was cuffed even.    From that point forward, I've understood the reality that anybody can be carrying, and if you act like a fool and make somebody scared for their life, there's a good chance you'll get shot.....that simple.

PA is an open carry State and concealed carry by permit. Brian.

I have a concealed carry and exercise it every time I leave the house...... not once on the water though.

Sounds like I need to rethink that ?

You just never know who's carrying and who's not. It's sad, but people get shot for a lot less than this.

Reminded me of a story I thought I'd share:

My fishing mentor had a 1% stake in a private 50-75acre lake that was just a magical lake full of huge Bass.    He'd take me to this lake several times a year.   Well this one time we decided to go after the big girls and night fish.

We'd been on the water at that point for several hours, and it was a very dark night.  Out of the middle of nowhere and seemingly very close, and series of gunshots echoed across the water's surface.

As I turn around to ask my mentor what the heck, he's already got one hand in the boat locker and pulling out the "snakecharmer" .410 he always kept in it.   He let off a matching pair of shotgun blasts into the air, and next thing we hear is a bunch of frightened curse words and a vehicle driving away.   The next day my mentor calls the lake owners and we find out that was the "property manager" shooting first and asking questions later.

As a 14-15yr old boy, it was my first real taste of combat fishing ?

I just took my CPR and first aid certification training for work at the South Dakota safety council last week. The instructor had been an EMT for 15 years around Minneapolis and also outside of Sioux Falls SD a town of about 200,000. Somehow we got on the subject of personal safety and he said I'm willing to bet 80% of you have a gun in your truck or on you now, and if not you should. We all chuckled and the other guys nodded. Bet I was the only sumbitch not packin.

I haven't seen the story.  What happened.

I've carried for 40 years.  Open carry is legal in NC.  Concealed carry with a permit.   (I carry concealed)

If someone points a gun at me they better pull the trigger.  That's all I've got to say about that.
