@clayton86 I second this.    hurt when Johnny cash covered it. NIN just didn’t give it the feel it needed.

Turn The Page by Bob Seger/Metallica. Metallica’s version made Seger’s version unlistenable.

99 Red Balloons by Goldfinger I thought is a good upbeat cover to Nena

The Boys of Summer by The Ataris is a good cover to Don Henley

I'm a Believer by Smash Mouth is a good cover to the Monkeys

My particular favorite

In The Summer Time by Shaggy is a great cover to Mungo Jerry

@PaulVE64, the Fugees cover to Killing Me Softly is bomb as F!@#

Lauryn Hill did a great job on that.

Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide

Honestly, I like the Dixie Chicks version best.

Listened to Fleetwod Mac and Steve Nick's in my first ride on AM radio as a senior in high school.  This young ladies cover of Dreams is as good as I've ever heard.

Just buttery smooth.

I like both better than Fleetwood.

Some cool responses. Another one for me and I do really like the original as well…. Is I prefer Levon Helm’s  “the band” version of Atlantic City over Bruce Springsteen. And I prefer nirvanas, “where did you sleep last night”.

I’m going to stray from my original topic and say Jolene. Written by Dolly Parton and tied in my little mind from white stripes. I love them both for different reasons. Sorry I cheated

Another one…. I’ll take fleet foxes version of silver dagger over Joan Baez… doubt too many people are familiar with this song in general but it came up on my Pandora yesterday and reminded me how much I love fleet foxes lol

Aerosmith's cover of "Big Ten Inch Record", written by Bull Moose Jackson.

"Train Kept a Rollin"  - Aerosmith and The Yardbirds come to mind.

Almost anything the old blues players covered from each other's libraries.  John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, etc.

Chris Stapleton does a better Tennessee Whiskey than David Allen Coe.

I love them both…. I guess that’s the rub with the topic in many cases

Guns and roses- Knocking on heavens door

Goin' Down - the Jeff Beck Group

It feels like Joni's version of Woodstock is a cover, but she wrote and released it before CSNY. So good. I'd suggest the Shadows and Light version. The band line up is amazing.

I can’t believe this one hasn’t been mentioned yet. Not necessarily “better” but one of the most moving covers ever made was Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart performing Stairway to Heaven in front of and in honor of Led Zepplin receiving their Kennedy Center honors.

Aretha Franklin’s version of Otis Redding’s “Respect” has become  one of the greatest R&B songs of all time

Harry Nillsson made Badfinger’s “Without You” into a classic.

It may not be better than the no. 1 classic rock song of all time but they did a great job for sure.

I liked their cover of The Battle of Evermore on the Singles Soundtrack.

The Gourds cover of 'Gin and Juice'.  The Hardy version is better too, but still behind the Gourds.
