How do you feel about JDM baits ?

What are your thoughts on JDM baits?

I use Geecrack, Nories, and Duo Realis. I have been pond fishing with these brands lately and I have found success. I can’t complain.

I pick and choose from a few brands. Geecrack is the most used. Ryugi for some hooks. And I buy the Megabass Karashi - a lot LOL.

When I’m serious about catching not just soaking baits for fun with family, I use JDM 75%+.

I have more confidence in a lot of JDM baits. Maybe it’s the specific action, profile, or previous success. Nothing can really unseat the Senko or Roboworm for some applications. I find myself reaching for OSP, Deps, and Geecrack significantly more often than Strike King, Crush City, or Reaction Innovations the rest of the time.

There's a rumor going around that I might have a Megabass tattoo in an unmentionable location.

I repeat, that is only a rumor.

We'll have to interrogate Lynn for confirmation. ;)

I'm to scared to take the first step down that expensive endless road.  Like all fears in life, facing and overcoming them can be a life changing experience.  I'm not there yet, but maybe someday.

The Nories escape twin goby has made me a believer in pressured water.

I was a little afraid of the prices but I over came that fear. They catch fish in places I couldn’t catch with strike king, zoom etc.. I will spend the extra money to catch fish in the hotter months. We will see how they perform in the fall and winter.

The fact that American companies rip off of jdm soft plastic molds goes to show how effective they are. I find that most soft plastic baits catch fish but the designs that jdm companies offer definitely catch fishermen more, including me. Not sure if it is confidence but in pressured waters the softer design and scent that a lot of the jdm baits provide have gotten me more bites, and the swim impact fat and vision 110 are the benchmark that all other baits in that category try to replicate.

I've got a package getting delivered today from Japan if that answers your question.

Oh, there's a reel in there as well.   :)

I use an eclectic hodgepodge of JDM and US sourced stuff. The only places I have found clear preferences are Japanese hooks, and local/semilocal plastics.

I would say the standard is generally higher, but so are the prices. And a lot of the baits don't necessarily work great around here or in all situations.

I do think they are less likely to produce something that is straight up defective or junk, unlike some of the mass market USA bait manufacturers like Lunkerhunt etc.

There is also nothing magical about a bait because it is made in Japan. The fish don't know and I have had as many bites on plastics made by Zoom, Berkley, Reaction Innovations, Strike King etc.

I love them and is pretty much all I use.

This is only my third year of lake/boat fishing - yet since the start I have tracked my catches  - and the catch rate leans hard towards JDM lures/baits - certainly not all, yet a high percentage - so this led me to purchase more JDM lures/baits, mostly from *** yet also from a number of Japan based shops - overall quality/attention to detail/number of fish caught are all factors in my decision to lean towards JDM lures/baits

Just a comment from the peanut gallery.  It’s a well known fact that if you throw a bait you like or have more confidence in more often, you will catch more on it.  I had that pointed out to me at one time when I commented I catch so many more on a Senko than a jig and my buddy said “ Well duh, it’s because you are throwing a Senko 75% of the time, of course you are going to catch more on it.”😂

I think JDM lures are more refined. I don't know if they take more time in R&D, testing or what. Their colors and paint schemes are unmatched. Just scroll through the colors available on the megabass vision 110. Also, Japan does not have the vast bass fisheries we do. If they are doing field testing, you can bet it is in a heavily pressured lake. I do not think US lure manufacturers take the time needed. They are under deadlines to get the bait out for the classic or Icast or next season. That said, those JDM baits are very expensive. I believe most guys who are just fishing for fun can't afford all the new shiny objects because of family and the rising costs of everything. Personally, if I think it is worth it, I may save up over time or just buy the more affordable US equivalent.

I use whatever baits work no matter where they are made. The JDM  baits that excel the most for me are suspending jerkbaits.

Tattoos aren’t that bad…I’ve got quite a few. I have an addiction to tattoos. They can be expensive, but worth it! 😂😂

That said? I fish JDM whenever I can afford it.

There are some hard baits by Megabass, OSP, Duo, Lucky Craft and Teckel that are standouts.  I’ll pay the piper.

I went to a secret spot I found that has produced over 25 fish in eight visits. I caught three 3 pound bass in the same morning there and then nothing. Nothing hit for two days. Not even a bite. I decided to go straight JDM’S and I started catching 2 to 3 bass a morning or evening at 1/2 a pound to 2.5 pounders. The keitech noisy flapper grabbed me a 3.68 pounder. JDM’s just hit different.

They make some gems. Despite the hundreds of glide baits on the market these days the original Deps 250 from more than 10 years ago is still the goat.
