Anyone know of a bait close to the Manns Baby 1 Minus. I wish they still made that bait

Me too

I’ve been using “ xps egg” from Bass Pro, kinda of the same but different. Color selection is slim too. I have caught fish on them.

Storm Subwart

Beware, it's been discontinued for a while now because Rapala bought out Storm.

I looked for years at a replacement.  Tried several, including the Mann's version.  The closest I found was the XPS Egg/Super Shallow Crank.  Which are now discontinued also.

I bulked up on subwarts and XPS versions when they were still available.  Even got a couple of the XPS ones out of a clearance bin when they went discontinued.

@bowhunter63 what color are you looking for?  I might be willing to part with one.

Strike King Hybrid Hunter Shallow and jr shallow, strike king KVD wakebait, bomber shallow A, CL8 baits might mouse.

The Hybrid Hunter is a good choice.  I also like The Shimano Macbeth Shallow.

The XPS Egg is very much alive on their website

The Evergreen CH-1 is another good option too.  It is a little spendy though.

That's interesting.  I thought it was discontinued.

The blanks are available and custom painters are offering them. Fulks Custom Baits comes to mind.  Google them fwiw.

I still have two. Only throw them on 1/2” diameter steel cable😃

OSP Cobuzzin is the closest I have found. It's 1/4oz but it has a feathered rear treble. Another from them is the Daibuzzin. It's a bigger bait and it's 5/8oz. Both have a similar side to side wobble like the original Baby Minus 1.

One other one... Lucky Craft LC 0.5.

Forgot about this one... Lucky Craft 1.0 SSR. It's works just below the surface. I would almost consider it a wake bait.

The baby 1 minus is still pretty easy to find on the action site. The double stamps are bringing around $20 or so. Thankfully it's not an easy bait to lose.

The shallow A was a secret back in the day also but we fished them with the rod held high and slow enough for them to wake like a redfin. They make a good clean up bait when they just swat at a topwater.

I didn't know they DC'd the Baby 1-. I've got several of them still and haven't fished one in a long time. I actually just found one in a tree not long ago.

The OSP Buzzin Crank  Heavy Hitter has that same aggressive side by side movement. 3/8th oz.

I really love them!

I've got two 3700 boxes of the baby 1 minus baits in different colors and sizes.  They haven't seen any action for a while.  Lately I've been fishing with a Hybrid Hunter Jr. and the KVD Wakebait.

Nothing comes close to the baby 1 minus. I tried the egg, didn’t like them. They also didn’t cast nearly as far. Not an issue for most but when you’re wading  or fishing a lake where no watercraft allowed and there’s a weed bed far out, casting distance matters

I guess I'm glad I got these a few years back from a local tackle store.  Didn't know they killed off the bait.  I got them just to have them since I remember them being a big deal as a kid but never really used them.

Glad they work for you. I threw them to where I think I lost cartilage in my shoulder with very little reward. I'm talking about everywhere on this island. Even at Yaphank where they consistently chew buzz baits, no luck. They're noisy. Switched to silent wakes and have been killing them ever since. Try the Livingston Bullnose. Comes through topped out weeds beautifully and will crank down to a foot on a fast burn when they won't come up to bite. Bull Nose – Livingston Lures

However, if you can fish Ronk after dark between the Victory ramp and Parsnips and you find bait fish boiling right at the shoreline when you flash a light on them, chuck the Minus parallel down the bank into a foot or two of water. Grind it down into the sand. Walleye will kill the bait. Big ones too. When they're schooled up and corralling bait they fight like crazy when hooked.

@Columbia Craw

Thanks for mentioning Fulks Baits.

I took a gander at their lures and came across the Fire n Ice Craw color.

Years ago I seen a crawfish in one of the waters I fish with the exact color blue the "the Fire n Ice Craw" represented.

As a result, I ordered a couple and the paint is well done.

Can't wait to try it out this Spring.

The Evergreen CH1 is everything the Baby 1- wishes it ever was.

All that being said, my friend Nick Fulks at Fulks Custom Cranks bought the remaining inventory from Manns when they closed up production. He's selling custom paintjobs on his website and is also in the process of finding a molding company to make new production 1-. He also sells repaints on the old molds as well if you prefer those old side stamped ones like I do. Check out the Fulks Custom Cranks Website.

If you dont want a silent crank and dont want to spend a lot, the KVD Shallow 1.5 would be a good option. It can go deeper than 1', but you can keep the bait by raising

the tip and or using heavier line.

The Ima Bill Lowen SB would really well for you. This SB is really versatile because it can dive to about 3' if you use light line and keep the tip down. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. It comes with Owner hooks, good rings and a computer chip lip.

Bought a CH1 in Bone to see if it works.
