We’re very glad to be back online and ready to welcome everyone back! To say it’s been a difficult time would be an understatement.

First, let’s clear up a few rumors:

• No, we did not go out of business
• No, BassResource was not sold
• No, we were not hacked

• No, you weren’t banned

So what actually happened?

A critical security vulnerability was recently discovered in a widely used server operating system utilized by millions of websites, including ours. The vulnerability had the potential to allow attackers to compromise entire servers, deploy malicious activity, and even delete websites. If you’re interested in the technical details, you can read more here:

Although BassResource itself was fully up to date and protected against the vulnerability, our hosting provider saw enough successful exploits affecting other customers that they made the decision to proactively shut down tens of thousands of websites in order to prevent further damage and contain the threat.

In short, BassResource was caught up in a much larger preventative shutdown.

The good news is that the provider used this time to implement enhanced security measures and permanent protections that will make it significantly more difficult for hackers and bad actors to compromise servers in the future. Unfortunately, deploying those changes across the infrastructure took considerable time.

Complicating matters further, during the recovery process our hosting provider corrupted the databases associated with the server. As a result, the entire server and website had to be rebuilt from scratch using backups — and, unfortunately, that process did not go smoothly.

To be absolutely clear: BassResource was never hacked, compromised, or exploited in any way. However, the data center where our server resides was temporarily taken offline as part of the provider’s broader security response.

Despite the challenges, we’re finally back up and running again, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome everyone back. Thank you all for your patience, support, and understanding throughout this ordeal.

WooHoo! Glad to be back!!

Your back? Didn't know ya were gone 😛

Man, that felt like forever, must have clicked on the short cut 3 thousand times.

Thank goodness! I have been going through withdrawals since the site went down.

I worked in the tech industry for 25+ years initially in the web development/apps field then in a Tier 4 data center, so I am aware of the things that can affect delivery of websites.

Even being familiar with what can go wrong, it was still hard to be patient waiting for this site to return.

That was worse than a 2 minute MLF penalty for sure

Anyone seeing a file download on mobile when hitting the first level of the forums? All the sub forums load fine but the main forum just triggers a file download. Android/chrome.

I felt a bit lost without the forums. Over 10 years now I've been frequenting this website daily.

Glad you were able to get things back up and running for us, Glenn.

Glad to see the site back, but at the same time I actually saved about $200 in the time the website was down from not buying stuff from the latest sales thread.

Man, it is so good to see the lights on again. This place has been my online home since 2008, and it didn’t take long to realize how much I miss the daily camaraderie, the wealth of knowledge, and the great people here until the gates were temporarily closed.

A huge thank you to Glenn and the tech team for grinding through the downtime (and the thousands of whiners like me) to get us back up and running. To the finest forum membership in the fishing world—it’s game on.
