I was forwarded this video link of a couple of young guys in California fishing the Smokin Rooster. From what I can tell, they were casting a T-Rig and also flipping/pitching. I believe their rigging was 1/2 oz tungsten and 4 to 5/0 EWG. I haven't fished California but I like the layout of many of their lakes, deep drops, rocks etc... The Rooster would be one of my first choices for flipping/ pitching as well. Makes my hands itch just thinking about it. Big O www.ragetail.com

Rage Rig is utilizing a weighted/swimbait hook on high action soft plastics other than swimbaits. This presentation provides a basic horizontal fall yet quicker than weightless presentations. Fishing them with a slow lift and fall like you would fish a stantard T rig set up is extremely effective and especially in relatively shallow conditions 8 ft or less. Here's a photo of a Craw on a "Rage Rig". This particular hook is a Moaner Weighted Stroker, hope that helps! Big O www.ragetail.com

Hey ETB, That's quite a smorgasboard of presentations that you used on those fish On some set up's, I like the cut tail version for the faster flapping motion as well. For those of you who don't know, ETB lives very close to me and picked up a few prototypes of the 4" grub recently. If all of you lived in my neighborhood, I promise you would have a few of them too We are working on a few of the packaging and production mold details so there is a small delay on deliveries. I'll post any updates when I get them. I don't like delays either but IMO, there is only one RIGHT and everything else is WRONG... Big O www.ragetail.com

As mentioned above, small shallow waters will often disappoint you if they're getting fished aggressively. If you want to stay with Soft plastics, weightless or light weight Lizards and/or Craws seem to catch many fish time and time again... Also might fish extremely early and late. X2 and might follow up with a weightless or light weight soft plastic since the fish seem to be reacting well to shallow presentations. A senko or Craw weightless and/or a "weighted hook high action soft plastic" (Rage Rig) might be the ticket. Tip the bait w/JJ's chartreuse and keep the profile short and compact or around 4". Follow up's in shallow water or on shallow strikes with small horizontal fall SP's seem to be extremely effective in these situations. Hope that helps Big O www.ragetail.com

Another great Day comes to and end and more great memories are made! I've had a wonderful year thus far and wish that any and all of you could be with me every time I'm on the water... The nearest water that I fish on a regular basis is 3 hrs from my home and others are up to 8 hrs away, so staying overnight is a must for safety's sake. Often, I'm by myself and other times I have someone to share these days with. For sure, I enjoy fishing most when a friend or friends are with me but my hectic schedule rarely allows ample notice for anyone to make these trips. So I will continue to share my phone photos with you all and hope that you can get a little enjoyment from them One of these fish came on a Watermelon/Red Eeliminator C-rigged on a 5/0 Moaner Stroker hook and was in 25 ft water. I tipped the tail with JJ's Magic. The other hit a 1oz Siebert Outdoors "Big O" Football Jig with a RAGE Lobster trailer. The Jig color was Green Pumpkin and the Lobster was Falcon Lake Craw color. I was dragging it over a gravel bar near a deep ledge in 17 ft water. I'm fishing a new 7'11 St. Croix Rage Rod Hvy action moderate/fast. It's perfect for my style of fishing! Deeper water and/or windy conditions. Also when Flipping/ Pitching, fall rate is important for the bite and often additional weight is better. You can cover more water faster pitching a heavier jig because it gets down quicker. With the different styles of jigs, Swim, Casting/Flipping, Football etc., each has their own specific use although they will crossover easily in many conditions with their weights being similar. This is only the tip of the iceberg for an explanation, as there are many more details to consider and to completely understand requires a lot of hands on experience. Big O www.ragetail.com

Green Pumpkin and/or Black and Blue are standards on most waters around the country. Tipping the trailer with JJ's chartreuse won't hurt a thing and helps the bite in some conditions. Personally, I like GP jig with Falcon Lake Craw Color trailer for most all daytime fishing regardless of where I'm fishing although I haven't used it in Northern waters as of yet. There's really no wrong way to fish a jig but let the fish tell you how they want it. Start off fishing it like a slow T-rig style with slow light drags and/or lifts in the rod tip. Light intermittent hops may also be what they're looking for. Maintaining a close contact or proximity to the bottom is important and feel your way along. When you get time, learn to flip or pitch with accuracy and soft water entries. This adds a new dimension to your jig fishing opportunities and fall rate becomes a big factor along with the overall profile size and jig action. Stay with it and don't lose patience, when a fish see's it they'll most often eat it, then both you and the fish are HOOKED! Big O www.ragetail.com

Flippin/Pitchin - 8 ft or less in low wind conditions - 1/2 to 3/4oz pegged or weight stop - I use a 5/0 minimum hook size either screw lock Moaner Stick'r hook or any flippin hook of your choice. Windy or deeper, 3/4 to 1oz. T tig or C rig - 5/0 screw lock style Moaner Stroker or off set round bend like Strike King or Owner. Weight depends on depth and wind conditions but 1/4 is my minimum and up to 3/4 in water to 30 ft. Rage Rig - 1/4 Moaner Weighted Stroker Top water - 5/0 screw lock Moaner Stroker or heavy wire EWG like Gammy. Jig trailer - 1/4 to 3/8oz shallow swim jig or 3/8 to 1/2 on shallow casting but 1/2 minimum when shallow flippin/Pitchin up to 1oz for deeper and windy conditions. Pinch off 1 section or tip for longer a profile or pinch two sections off for a compact set up. Punch - 5/0 Moaner Stick'r hook with 1oz minimum tungsten weight. Big O www.ragetail.com
