Hey buddy, a while back you introduced me to a rod, I believe it was a BC rod made from like a 5 wt fly rod, would a "whippy" rod like that work with a BFS BC? Forgive my ignorance, I'm mostly salt now, but have been getting intrigued by these threads. Thanks, man.

A little off topic, but fishing in Maine this time of year is pretty cold. I was up there on Friday and felt the chill in the air, so I can imagine what the water temps were like. I wonder how much the coldness affects the plastic on those baits. Must be petty brittle I would guess?

Thanks JF. I agree with you on the cleaning solutions you mentioned. I was looking at the cleaner as more of a periodic thing during the season and not so much as an after season deep cleaning. I'll check on those products that you mentioned for the grease and oil. I don't venture on this forum section much, so if there are threads pertaining to this topic, my apologies for the redundancy. Has anyone used this or similar product from Ardent? My gear tends to crossover to saltwater and I was looking for some extra protection. Last season I was constantly rinsing, cleaning and oiling my reels after saltwater use, was wondering if the grease and oil will protect better than the freshwater products? I'm actually in research on this very topic. Nothing to add here yet, but I am looking into it.

I look at trout stocking like spring training in baseball. It's the start of a new season, better weather is here and it's a better chance to catch a fish early in the season. Trout stocking has been here since I can remember. I'll just break out light tackle - spoons and inlines - and see if I can get a trout, a pickerel, bluegill or if I'm lucky, get a green bass, then all is good. Just embrace it, it's still fishing.

Had one last night before dinner. I like em. I like the Summer Ale as well. I find myself gravitating to Ales more than beer for some reason.

Funny you posted this ^^^^, the past couple of days I've been seriously thinking about dropping down. The weight has been feeling really heavy lately. Could be time to take a weeks break, could be from weight loss or it could be a combination of weight loss, calorie deficit and feeling a bit over trained. Either way, I'm in the routine switch camp. If you're fishing the bank, snaps come in handy, especially if you want to travel light and like the ability to change lures at will. I can definitely see that. When I'm not fishing out at sea, I tie direct as much as possible, but when I'm surf jig fishing at dusk or dawn, I really need my jig to stay down and not let the current lift it too much. As the tide comes in and out or wind picks up, you're constantly making adjustments to jig weight. Snaps are invaluable in that situation. Besides, most of the snap police hang around the mattress police. They're all pretty cool.

I do like the ABU's 5500, but, unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. I do deploy 2 round bc's that have been really good to fish with: Sorry, both are interwebz images, my bc's are at my home in ME.

You serious, you only got 2-3 years out of your bearings? I take out and let them soak in acetone or some type of degreaser. Rinse and dry with compressed air and then a drop or 2 of reel oil. Not sure how long I got, but it's more than 2 or 3 years.

Out here it's common for people to step over caution tape and walk on a sidewalk that just had concrete poured.

Seems to be cyclical, back in '08 we had a pretty big recession where suppliers/distributers in the construction industry weren't keeping a big inventory. We lost a lot of skilled trades who went in a different career path or flat out retired early. We had guys move out of state as well. This too shall pass.

Little cold snap coming in for tomorrow...Low of 20* - High of 32*. So glad I took the hard top off the jeep and put on the soft top. Gonna be a cold ride to and from work tomorrow ...
