  1. 8lb fluorocarbon works well, 6lb also does the trick it depends on depth. Lots of guys use braid with a floro leader. I dont like casting leaders through my guides it just annoys me.
  2. They dont make a 76 heavy premier (for bass) . They only make the musky version and its the same size if not bigger than the mojo last time i held it. That being said the heavy mojo is bigger than my 7 ft 9 heavy fenwick aetos but they are two different companies with different rod blanks.
  3. Does anyone use a ml casting rod for shad raps? I cannot cast them well on casting gear and prefer spinning gear when throwing them. I dont have any ml casting setups.
  4. Its a finesse rod so I would use it as you intended. Drop shot would work fine as well as for throwing shad raps.
  5. 7ft med heavy fast, anything i would through a spinnerbait on.
  6. 5 wire manns rig, spread out. Either reaction innovations skinny dippers or little dippers (depending on the bite) on the 4 outer spots and then a yum money minnow in the middle. The Middle and two bottom baits have hooks and the top are dummies. I also do the same with lft boot tail magic shads or the regular magic shads. All baits are rigged on the buckeye swimbait heads or owner screwlocks
  7. I have a ranger dealer near me so that would be the boat I buy. Im not going to buy a new boat with the nearest dealer 100miles away. That being said the ranger 621vs is one of the best boats ive ridden in for big water . At my age I would buy a standard style of bass boat but when Im older Im going to get a 621 multi species style rig so I can take the kids/ grandkids out fishing.
  8. I use a revo winch and the lower ratio and more IPT really helps out.
  9. I have 2 regular tatulas and honestly they are bulky. They balance better with longer rods and dont fit nicely on a 66 rod if you want to use it for jerkbaits or small cranks. I love them for casting spinnerbaits, topwater stick baits, and anything I would do on a mh rod. In the same price range I could get a lighter reel for jerkbaits and such. I am just used to light reels. Performance wise these reels are tanks, first bass on mine was 6lb+ and the drag worked flawlessy
  10. Watch this video. Without seeing your entire map I cant accurately point to the points. Those tight contour lines mean drop offs are in that area. ***http://*.com/understand-lake-maps/
  11. Mine is 7 ft 3 but also use a 7ft I fish mostly open water stuff. My punch rod /arig rod is 7 ft 9. I am taller so i can get away with pitching a 7 ft 3 rod. If I was shorter I would use a 7ft rod. The punch / arig rod is so long to cast big baits far, no other reason.
  12. Looking to buy another reel in a 7:1 ratio to even out my arsenal. I have thrown my jerkbaits on a 6:4 ratio but should I switch it up and put it on the 7:1? Not sure if a 7:1 would make me pick up too much line. The reason I ask is because my extra 6:4 ratio reel is 7+oz and the new reel is 6.4 oz. Working a jerkbait all day wont be too fun on a heavy reel.
  13. just a psa quarrow angler pliers are awful for split rings. im going to take a grinder to mine this next weekend to fix the issue.
  14. /high end- costas. mid range- numa cheap-strike king then add a retainer because most dont float
  15. It really depends on the topic and what type of question you ask. If someones asks " what is a good crankbait rod?" you will get opinions in response but when you asks " What makes a medium moderate action or a parabolic bend better for a crankbait than say a heavy action with a fast tip?" you will get answers in response. Wording is everything
  16. On the high end Advantage bait co http://www.advantagebait.com/spinnerbait_details.html Makes a spinnerbait that allows you to change the blades and skirts (can change skirts on any other bait but blades are not as easy) In theory you could buy 2 baits and a few blades and have an endless amount of different spinnerbaits in two lures. They are priced a little high but you can find them for cheaper. Ive caught plenty of fish on them this past fall. Besides that I would go with war eagle, strike king , booyah and every some terminator ones.
  17. I love my mojo for the price. At my shop i can buy an avid for 20-30 more than a premier and it is a great upgrade.
  18. Just get in good with a product buyer or get a press pass. You've got until summer to figure it out lol
  19. That isnt a problem with reels but rather with rods. I can throw 15lb fluorocarbon on my lews tp all day and it wont hurt it. The reason they tell you that is to show you know a general capacity.
  20. The braid was a bad choice for the type of fishing you do. I would use 15lb fluorocarbon for everything you do on that rod.I suggest using a fc leader.
  21. every time i see your picture i remind myself to get a spook in that color
  22. Im lost dont you have separate batteries for electronics and big motor?
  23. Give credit where credit is due. http://www.bassmaster.com/news/pace-miss-2014-classic Someone should edit the bass resource article and quote the original author.
  24. Ive never used that owner style of hook. How does the hookup ratio compare to a regular round bend style? Also that head style is my favorite for shakey heads.
  25. For those baits a 66mf is the happy medium to cover jerkbaits & crankbaits. I dont have my dedicated jerkbait rod yet so I throw them on a 66m moderate action fenwick. I plan on getting a 68 mxf fenwick elite tech small mouth rod for the purpose of throwing jerkbaits. You want a f to xf ( preferably) action on your jerkbait rod to impart the proper action. Using a 66m moderate doesnt pop the lure as much.
