  1. Losing a loved dog is hard on the soul .
  2. I'm sad for you . I love dogs . When my "Kayan" died , I lost a partner .
  3. Fireworks show at my brothers tonight . The river there is flooded so I guess I wont be fishing ,instead I'll be drinking cheap beer "Busch Light" and flirting with the ladies .
  4. Any of you guys remember the song "13 Questions" by Seatrain . Its one of my favorites from my teenage years but hardly anybody has heard it .
  5. The weeds I fish , a crankbait will not work in them . I dont know what kind of weeds people fish them in but I have never encountered them .
  6. Thats the way I do it , give it a jerk , reel in the slack then resume the retrieve .
  7. I fish muddy water a lot . Its the norm . Bass have no trouble finding lures . I use willow leaf spinnerbaits , plastic worms , Beetle spins . The dirtier the water the tighter they hold to cover .
  8. Guess what the weather says right now . Too dang hot . I havent been in two weeks and wont go next week . I'll make up for it when it cools off .
  9. The Abus and Shimanos had oil , a wrench , three sizes of brakes and maybe Shims .
  10. I had one with An Abu 4600C mounted on it . Find the right weight spinnerbait and you will find it an accurate enough rod . I guess a 1/2 ounce will fit it best , maybe 3/8 .
  11. I never have used any . Maybe I dont know what I'm missing out on .
  12. Do you catch bass like this ?
  13. When you start fishing rocks you will experience sinkers snagging .
  14. There is a place close by that looks like that . Its backwater to the Mississippi river that is protected by a levee . It use to be a fantastic area for big bass . Its silted in now and too shallow . It holds no bass .
  15. I have a large Rebel Popper . Dont know what it is called . Also a large Pico Pop . These lures spit water 6 foot or more with sharp, short snaps of the wrist . Back when I could fish during the hot summer days , I used those two lures a lot in standing timber . Had several 50 plus days with them but not a lot of keepers .
  16. That looks really shallow . Any culverts there ?
  17. I always wanted to fish Reelfoot , then one year I did it . Its probably my least favorite lake I ever fished . I couldnt catch bass, ended up fishing for bluegill , it was that bad .
  18. I meant the clearer the water the more colorful the living creatures are .
  19. Weight is key . If I'm continually casting to the left the weight is too light . Too my right its too heavy .
  20. Too add to my post above . The clearer the water , the more colorful the critters .
  21. They need to start that again . I use to keep those handy little bottles of abu oil in my tackle box . I remembered this the last time fishing when one of my reels was feeling a little "geary". I use to put a drop or two on the bearings and worm gear and that would take care of the problem . I searched through all my garage stuff trying to find a little bottle but to no avail . I keep oil at home of course but would like some of those little plastic bottles again ,.
  22. When I was a kid I seined a lot . Different waters had different craws . Lots of colors . Blue , purple , green . brown , with red , yellow , orange accents . Also seined a lot of darters . Orange throated darters were stunning .Turquoise , orange , blue , just as colorful as any store bought aquarium fish . I had them in an aquarium but they would not take to fish food . There are a lot of colorful creatures under the water , so all those weird colored lures might not be so weird after all.
  23. Nothing wrong with fishing visible cover . Make precise underhand cast by selecting the lures that, weight wise, match your equipment best . It doesnt take long to get it down . Overhand lobs might catch a few fish, low trajectory precise casting might catch you a few dozen .
  24. I'm still catching them shallow . Bass like to hang around stuff so I've been casting at stuff . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , toads and texas rigged worms are the lures I've been using because they work well at the stuff I'm casting at , mostly weeds and wood.
