  1. Made it out for a quick hike at Swain's before Easter dinner. I was really surprised by the water level, it's the highest I've ever seen it. The last time I went in March, it was really low. But the water was really muddy, probably due to the influx of rain water and the Swain lock being open, there was a lot of fast moving water. I started with a spinnerbait, and caught the biggest on it, and then I lost it and caught several more small guys on a paddle tail and small jointed swimbait. If I had a redo I woulda just thrown the spinnerbait where there was wood, and the chatterbait in open water.
  2. If you run across the bigger brother of this, John J Bowman single barrel 100 proof for about $50, give it a try. It’s much better and is distilled from a blend of buffalo trace’s mashbill 1 and 2. Bowman is popular around the DMV, people line up the night before at their distillery for their special releases, some of which sell for over $1k at secondary prices.
  3. Seems like you're trying to line up the structure from your big motor, and if you're going fast enough the Garmins will pick up heading, but when you slow down you lose heading? If that's the case it probably would. What's your TM?
  4. For LMB? This would work just fine, and stows away because the pole telescopes.https://smile.amazon.com/SAN-LIKE-Floating-Fishing-Net/dp/B08ZC89SM8/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B08ZC8DRTT&psc=1 Then there are others that break down even further by folding the net in half. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SVTZR3H/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AVJ8I855RELQZ&psc=1
  5. The shad run is here, not thiccc, but running pretty good. Hit up Occoquan Run on Friday morning and got about 42 hickories, no americans. First fish of the day was a 26" striper with a fat belly on a spoon, that was fun on an ultralight with 6lb test. Water temps stayed at 52 all morning, but the bite really picked up when the sun came out from the clouds. The spoon worked like a jerkbait deeper in the water was the ticket.
  6. Yep, mine's similar to your right view, and bare on the left. That's what I'm afraid of, but the Ultrex is warrantied, so I might just wait until the end of this season to get it fixed.
  7. Hey all, my Helix 10 bow unit is connected to an Ultrex MSI. First time out this spring, and the SI was really dark. There are some lines, but not much going on, even after a default reset. The DI and 2D view work fine. I switched the SI source to the console transducer and it looked as it should, scrolling lines and structure. I took the bow Helix off the flush mount, checked connections at the ethernet box and Helix, and nothing changed. Anything else I should check? Otherwise I'm thinking the Ultrex transducer side elements broke? Seems kind of odd that both would not break at the same time though.
  8. Probably an under lubed pinion gear if it's brand new.
  9. FG at home, then when I break off, Alberto on the water.
  10. This is the song that plays in my head when I'm tying on my first lure of the morning during the summer.
  11. The pandemic has really F'd my older son (12 years old). I never really faced mental health issues, nor did I really acknowledge it it until I saw it in my son. @ThatFishingGuy just know this, you're not alone. Lots of people have the daily battles you have. I've experienced it with my son for the last 2 years, we win some, we lose some. But it's a war we can win, and you can win. I've come to realize not everyday will be perfect for him, but there's tomorrow. If you are ever in the DC Metro area, you have a buddy to fish with any day of the week, just hit me up.
  12. If you're just pond fishing, 2 to 3 3700 boxes are usually enough right? Any non-fishing specific backpack should hold 2/3 3700 boxes that are vertical. I use a High Sierra pack off Amazon and it holds 2 3700's easily, 3 if I really want to max it, plus plastics or a 3600/3500 in the middle section. If you want a backpack that holds boxes horizontally, i.e. flat then that's a whole other ballgame, and more costly.
  13. Agreed. My parents were immigrants who worked second jobs on the weekends, the hourly ones like McDonald's and grocery stores. I played for travel sport teams on weekends and I don't really remember them being at any of them, maybe a handful. Not by their choice, but because of necessity.
  14. I'm pretty fortunate that supply chain issues haven't impacted me too dramatically. I did put in for a warranty repair for the fuel sender on my Lund, which is backordered for 4-6 weeks. But the repair is on record so I'm using my boat until the dealer tells me to bring it in. I do feel bad for people around me planning on home renovations, my buddy who is a home contractor has some horror stories about wait times for appliances, fixtures, etc.
  15. For the shad fishing crew: I went to Fletchers last Friday 3/18 at 9AM around Gordon's rock. Lots of people fishing, no catching. The water seemed to be a little stained/muddy from the rain on Thursday. Water temps seemed to be good, high enough for shad to run. I stuck around for 2 hours and didn't get any hits, and didn't see anyone else get hit. Maybe next week and the shad will start to heat up, I plan to get out there a couple times and I'll report back.
  16. I use a Lews 6’8 Custom Plus top water rod, it has a smaller grip, almost like a pistol grip. I use 12lb mono with it and have dragged 8lb snakehead covered in hydrilla. I think poppers call the fish better, and would rather use it over a frog. But when I’m around pads or really heavy slop that trebles won’t rip through, I use the frog.
  17. Went back to an old favorite that I sometimes forget about. ER is just a solid mid-proof bourbon that always hits the right spot.
  18. Zillion G2 7'2 MH/R right now, but it's discontinued and I got it for $150 on clearance. I would think the 7'2 MH/R Tatula Elite would be about the same flex and that's in your price range.
  19. 7’2 ALX Toadface with a Bantam MGL 8.1 I don’t like really long rods for working a frog, and the Toadface has a shorter rod butt which I love, it doesn’t jab me ribs or arms when working a frog.
  20. Work finally slowed down, and I was able to smoke a cigar and hike the C&O last Wednesday and Today at Swain's Lock. Water is low, just a trickle north of the Swains Lock, and low below it as well. The white shallow jerkbait has been the hot lure, I even caught two new species for me in the canal, a decent yellow perch and a big channel catfish. The spring peepers are out too, and one of the LMB had a frog leg sticking out of it's gullet. About a dozen 2lb cookie cutters, and lost a couple bigger ones before I changed out the crappy Rapala hooks.
  21. Done everything suggested. It still happens from time to time. And after I re-login, I get this screen. Then if I go to the main forum, I'm not signed in anymore and this cycle continues. This randomly happens and sometimes resolves itself quickly.
  22. That little guy kills them in the grassy stretches of the C&O. Bend the hooks up just a smidge, the hook gap is pretty laughable.
  23. $4.15/g here outside of DC. I'm more used to paying $2-2.50/g for it. I think the problem with diesel is that there are a lot less refineries than petrol, and therefore diesel production is more subject to upswings and downswings, which is sometimes good, sometimes bad. Luckily it's still too cold to tow the boat around, so I barely drive the truck around, and run errands in my wife's EV.
  24. Yep, every year I get less tolerant of the winter. Told my wife I’m ready to pack it up and move to FL.
