  1. But that's on an open line of credit, and it's not a fixed term. If you don't make monthly payments enough to pay down the total accrued balance, you'll end up paying interest on the capitalized interest. Basically if you ran into some kind of hardship and can't make payments, that debt will just keep accruing interest on itself and you'll be in a big deep hole.
  2. Buy a used kayak with that $500, pay down your debt and live within your means. Save a little more and then buy a used boat for $5,000 and keep saving. Then buy your first new boat once you understand how to manage your finances.

Fortaleza Anejo is vanilla and cream, I don't love tequila, but I do love this one.
  4. What's everyone been up to? I finally got to get out and get the lines wet recently. I took an afternoon hike last Wednesday at Swains and the water was at the winter levels, very low. Just a trickle from the lock and I had to go all the way down to the Cold Spring branch section of the canal. I got a few dinks, and my biggest was about 1.5lbs, very tight to wood. Water was probably in the mid 50's still, a few more degrees and pre-spawn should be good. Today I was able to get out to Little Seneca Lake for a few hours. I wanted to test my spider rig set up which I'll use for crappie with my dad during the crappie spawn here, and the tidal Potomac. It worked well, but my 10' poles aren't long enough to get the bobbers out to where I would like them. Water temps were at 48-49 degrees in both the main lake and creeks. I only marked fish at 30ft, nothing shallow yet. Glad I took an early trip though, my Ultrex built-in transducer is shot now, it was working intermittently last season, but is totally blank now. Hopefully I can send it for repair and get it back before the fishing gets really good.
  5. MMCS Goes well with a cigar, but I always get this earthy mushroom funk when I have it neat. I'm a big fan of the MM46 Cask Strength though, our local Costco got tons of it a couple years ago.
  6. Oooooh Augustiner is so good. Prost!
  7. So you're paying 35% of the retail for the old FFS, plus a rigging fee of your electronics to the dealer? Are they already installed? If not, and you think the rigging fee is high, just ask for the boat to come with no electronics and ask for a 100% credit of the retail cost of the old FFS and get it rigged locally. I hate even calling it a credit if it's not installed, basically you're just ordering a boat with no electronics, that's not uncommon. If it's already installed, and you think 35% of the retail plus the rigging fee is high, call around locally and get a quote to have it re-rigged.
  8. Yes, kind of. The boat that I agreed to purchase had two Helix 10's, and when I called to inquire about the boat, he told me they were G2N's listed for $1900 each on the bill of sale. He had not installed them, and I simply asked him if I could ship him my own electronics to install, and he said no problem and he didn't even charge for the install. BPS was having their spring sale for the G3N's for $1,600 so that was a no brainer. So if the dealer hasn't installed his own electronics yet, I don't see why it would be an issue, but if they're already on....they've already spent the time and labor to install it, and then have to uninstall it.
  9. I really enjoy reading your stories, keep 'em coming! Sorry I'm just a pencil pusher and this stuff is a lot more exciting than what I do.
  10. Closest dealer for the boat I wanted was in VA and wouldn't budge from MSRP, and had a 6 month wait list. So I searched and finally found a dealer in WI that was thousands less and worth the 12 hour drive and overnight hotel, and had it in stock. Great dealer, I shipped him electronics and they rigged it up with no extra charge. About the double tax, my bill of sale had no taxes listed, because I wasn't registering it in WI. I think you pay the sales/use tax on the boat in the state you register it in.
  11. So we know what @Birdwill be doing Wednesday night. Cooking dinner, cleaning up dishes, washing and folding laundry....might as well throw in a vacuum of the house and mop of the kitchen floor for safe measure.
  12. Congrats, looks perfect for getting into the skinny pads on the Lower Potomac too. Ultrex's have a tensioner that can adjust how stuff the pedal is, but not sure about MG. Found this though:
  13. What model Minn Kota do you have? Know that will help pinpoint potential issues.
  14. Good decision, life is too short to wait.
  15. We need this guy to train his minks to hunt them down:
  16. It's impressive, but ask it: 1) Which is better, a baitcaster or spinning reel? 2) Which hand should you use to reel on a spinning reel, and baitcaster? 3) How much drag does a fishing reel need? 4) How much do I need to spend on a baitcasting set up? 5) What brand is the best, Daiwa or Shimano? 6) What braking system is the best, magnetic or centrifugal? Or any other question that will bring a topic to a 5 page thread in about 5 minutes.
  17. Yep, Farmington on Wharf Rd is a good soft launch for kayaks. The grass in Piscataway comes in pretty quickly too. Frogs, swim jigs, weedless plastics will work there. Another spot you can check out is Mallows Bay, there's a small protected cove south of the boat ramp with lots of sunken wood, and a creek mouth that will produce on the outgoing tide.
  18. Upper Potomac - You'll be able to launch a kayak easily from Riley's Lock, but there are some other accessible spots if you can drag your kayak. Look for eddy's, deeper holes, timber. I like topwater early and late during the day in the summer on the UP. Lower Potomac - Roaches Run is a good spot for a kayak. It's a protected tidal pond with LMB, crappie, snakeheads. Fish the underpass bridge with a moving tide, in the summer the pads in the northern section will come up and is great for frogging. Fish the laydowns around the deeper sections. Mattawoman - You can launch from Slavin's, Masons Springs, or near the mouth at Smallwood State Park. I fish this creek the most, and I usually launch at Slavin's. During the spring/early summer, I go towards the mouth of the creek and fish emerging pads, main points, and timber. During the summer, I try to get farther from other boats and go deeper into the pads or up the creek. That's probably the same pattern I would use for the other creeks too, like Aquia and Chicamuxen. I find the outgoing tide better when the grass and pads are fully grown in by mid June.

Mine's been fine, mail is consistently delivered at 4PM....just in time to snipe any tackle deliveries before my wife gets home.
  20. Questions: What do you want to target? The Potomac is a vast water system, is there an area you want to focus on first? Seasonal patterns depends on what and where you want to fish for too. Do you plan to use your kayak to fish the Potomac, or just bank fish?
  21. Same, but then I bought a $40 Ray's DIY BFS spool for it and transformed the Alphas SV to a pretty good BFS caster. Then I got a drag clicking washer set from Ebay and it's my favorite perch/panfish combo (on a 6'5 MajorCraft Benkei UL).
  22. Check out US Bank, I got way better terms than that, but that was back in Feb 2021.
  23. So I primarily fish 2 bodies of water, a tidal creek where it's covered in pads and hydrilla and a deep reservoir. For the tidal creek, I basically don't use electronics at all, and frequently trimming my 52" Ultrex up as far as I can to get through the hydrilla. For the deep reservoir, I'm either casting at bank structure for topwater/moving baits, or looking offshore for suspended schools of fish. Right now I just have the Ultrex MSI, and while I can usually locate the general vicinity of the fish in the deep reservoir, being slightly off in 40-50FOW usually means I miss the fish. I was thinking of getting Mega360 to help pinpoint better, since the fish are generally suspended and not moving much. But now I'm rethinking to Mega Live with Target Lock. One big issue is I trim up the Ultrex a lot, I think I can cut down the shaft of the Mega 360 so that it's above the prop when needed or just remove it pretty easy. Trimming the Ultrex seems like an issue with the Mega Live Target Lock. Any opinion?
  24. I don't think there's a USDM version of the 22 Zillion TW HD 1000 (new body style) yet, but there is the older US Zillion TW HD 1520 (old body style). The new 22 Zillion has a clicker drag, which I like for salt water species. It also already has a 100mm handle with power knobs, and also has a brass main gear.
  25. Nope, I have my card tethered to my iPhone Bank of America app, it will check the GPS location of my phone and the deny/alert me to charges that aren't me.
