  1. If I'm hiring a guide, I'd expect a remote trolling motor and I would be fishing up front, or if no remote the guide was up front controlling the trolling motor but not fishing and focusing 100% on my experience. That would including making sure my technique and presentation were right, looking for signs of fish such as beds, grass, sunken structure/wood, rigging up another rod for a different presentation, thinking about the next spot, etc. Can a guide do all that and fish at the same time, maybe....but why even do it if the guide is (or should be) focused on the client experience. Now, I often tell my guides to fish some spots if I'm going to take a break, or I want them to show me their technique, but if they fish without my permission, I'll ask them to stop. But that's often alleviated up front when I talk to them when booking. I'm really not sure why guides don't have a trolling motor with a remote and spotlock nowadays anyways. They are many options in various budgets and it's an investment into the guiding experience of your clients.
  2. I filled two 3700s with various lures that included 5/0 EWGs and whopper ploppers and had no issues going to SWFL multiple times. They stopped me for having fishing pliers once though but eventually let me through.
  3. Not me, I put the line around and tie the arbor, then put the tape on top of the knot, to smooth it out and I try to get at least half the spool taped over. The tape will hold the knot, keep it smooth, and the line will start to wrap over the tape as you spool it up give it grip.
  4. Give 1/2" wide Super 33+ tape a try. I only put on about 1.5" of tape over the knot and never had a problem with slipping, and no crease issues.
  5. For braid....On deep spools, mono backing to fill up the spool. On regular spools where I will need to change the line out at least once a year, mono backing. On shallow spools electrical tape over an arbor knot. I use 3M super 33+ and it leaves no residue, even after many hot summers.
  6. I like this fishing belt, it holds a rod at your hip too. Useful for retying a leader or lure, and helpful if you have a fish gripped or lipped and trying to take a deep hook out. https://a.co/d/chczaK9
  7. I start drinking before I do my taxes.... ?
  8. My Shorelandr came with something like this installed. It's angled so that the spare tire contours with the bow V hull. It's pretty easy to install, I moved mine from the starboard to port side on my trailer and took maybe 10 minutes to take off and put back on. https://a.co/d/cQU65tE
  9. Everyone's financial situation is different, but the outcome is always the same if you bite off more than you can chew, especially with debt. For my situation, I had purchased a small little boat with cash and while it got me on the water, I knew I would be upgrading it in the future because I couldn't fish with my boys or take it to bigger water. A couple years later I had saved enough to put down about half of the price of the boat I wanted but didn't want to wait a couple more years to save up to buy it in cash. My boys are growing up fast, and I didn't want to lose any more years before they go off to college. So I financed the rest and I'm more than happy to make payments on my boat because it's brought us lots of joy.
  10. Larceny Barrel Proof C922 is excellent (Breaking Bourbon's 2022 Whiskey of the Year), but that Austin Nichols WT12 (1990's dusty) is something else. I have a relative who travels overseas and was fortunate to pick it up for me.
  11. Lifetime Tamarack Angler, it's $400 new at Dicks Sporting Goods, though I've seen it go on sale cheaper once in a while. Lots of YT videos on upgrades for it such as the seat, track rails, etc. Check craigslist, FB marketplace...it may be half the price for a used one.
  12. Oh then you gotta try this: https://www.bonappetit.com/story/wet-city-brewing-spaghett
  13. Much like your affinity for Miller Lite, I love my Bud Heavy.
  14. I prefer the trilene as well because it doesn't leave a kink in the line when cinched down, and also the tag end faces away from the lure.
  15. A little pre-Easter get together with some friends. The Austin Nichols Wild Turkey 12 year was the best of the bunch.
  16. Can't go wrong with a decent bluetooth speaker, they usually have really good battery life, I invested in a nice Bose that I used on my old boat, and now just keep in my SUV. Now I have a built-in bluetooth unit on my boat and I use it quite a bit, but it just depends on my mood, if I'm serious fishing, or fun fishing with friends/family. But if I'm on the water at sunrise, never...I just like to soak it all in first thing in the morning with a nice cup of coffee or morning stogie.
  17. Tatula Elite 7’ M/MH AGS, throws 1/8oz pretty easily with the right reel.
  18. Can't really help much with those bodies of water, I've been going for shad pretty much since mid-March. But, I did walk my dog to the right of the boat ramp at Needwood before today's storms and saw good size LMB pairing up in the shallows around laydowns and rock. They stocked trout a few weeks ago at both Centennial and Needwood too. They're probably moving up the creeks at Little Seneca, I may go looking for spawning crappie next week there.
  19. So it ended up being a cable that hooks up to the Helix G3N. From the Ultrex built-in transducer, it goes into the Ultrex control head where it has a connection to an extension cable. This cable then goes to the Helix G3N, but with another adapter cable for the Helix. MK replaced the whole lower unit, but that didn't fix the image, but they sent me the two cables which I replaced myself and it now works. Not sure which one of the two cables was damaged, both look good outside with no crimps and the connectors looked good too. The warranty department at MK is great to deal with.
  20. I've had Benchmark No. 8, and it's a mixer for me. I'd rather pony up $5 more for either Evan Williams BiB or Wild Turkey 101 for a budget friendly all around pour.
  21. You would want to network them then, so that if you mark a spot on your side-imaging, it would also mark the same gps coordinate on your chart unit.
  22. You can but you'll need to get the ethernet box and adapter cables: https://humminbird-help.johnsonoutdoors.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412774839703-Ethernet-Sharing-Humminbird-to-Humminbird But, what trolling motor do you have? Why not just run the second transducer onto your TM from the bow unit?
  23. Yep, just pick up the cheapest <32GB microSD you can find, then WIN10 will let you format it as FAT32, or you can download software that will partition the 128GB to 32GB and format it to FAT32.
  24. It's real. https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/sweet-settlement https://studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/sweet-v-cardona-school-list.pdf Not gonna tell you what to do with your money now that apparently you're going to get a windfall, but I'd still buy a used boat first (if this is your first boat ever).
  25. Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the composition of the OP's school debt, and balance and if it lead to a decent paying job of course. If it's $80K'ish and mostly federal Stafford sub and unsubbed loans, it'll have a low rate and serviced over 10 year period, which isn't crushing. At the end of the day, most people look at cash flow and think they can afford something. I look at it like a balance sheet where your assets either generate future income, or depreciate (decline) over time. It's OK to have some depreciating assets, but you better have enough assets to generate future income to cover your liabilities. I could go on and on, but this is a fishing forum so I'd rather read about spinning vs casting reels and which one is better.
