Road To The Superbowl 2026
Maybe being an NFL QB ain't all that. Grandpa moving the ball against the Hawks 🧐. Montana on the phone right now. 😂 Jk

Fluke guys
Guess I'm not biased. Top to bottom: Caffeine shad D-shad Bass assassin Shad impact Fluke Throw them year around on Owner 4.0 twist lock. When I fish them deep it's 3/32. Shallow flats in the spring, through grass, in cover and hopping off bottom. Walking them is probably a favorite way of working them. Top 5 favorite bait of all-time.

Shaky Head popularity?
In clear water Ned was probably my top bait this year. Do agree with the T-rig, take a Shaky head over it.

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~ 2025-2026 Edition
According to my wife's FB I caught my 1st LM bass of the Year on April 2nd in back to back years on the same lake at almost the same time of day, ironic. My projection..... April 2nd 😁

Shaky Head popularity?
I throw 4-5" worms and craw imitations on Shaky head on steep banks with bottom contact. Not afraid to throw it in cover. It's still popular in my boat.

Your Main Reason For Using Fluorocarbon Line?
I believe #1 would be confidence. Most of the water I fish is gin clear and this has me throwing quite a bit of finesse, drop-shot, Ned and Shaky head. Several years ago the knowledge I've gained from this very site, finesse techniques and 8# flouro leader lead to much greater productivity on the water. Sensitivity would be right up there as well. 15# braid to 8# flouro leader, Alberto knot on spinning tackle is what I've found to be holy grail.

So what's your other obsession?
Deer Hunting of course but that only consists of the month of November. My big hobby is chainsaws, rebuilding, modifications to the exhaust, porting. I buy and sell chainsaws and my garage is full. All the locals bring me their saws for modifications. I only touch Stihl, Echo and Husqvarna.

winter fishing
I fish mainly in North West VA and WV and our lakes already have ice on the edges but we've been unseasonably cold. For the most part I'd consider VA/WV above the line for winter bass fishing.

Ned rig heads
I switched over to the Nedlockz EWG and never looked back. Much heavier than the original and rarely hang.

Thoughts on Fishing when you are old and tired...
65 and like a Tasmanian Devil. My motto: You gotta red line until you flat line. I can't think of a better way to spend the 4th quarter of life then on a boat just enjoy the sights and sounds. Age is just a number..... until it's not.

Haven't seen that either and have been an avid fan since Namath. 😳

The good, the bad, and the ugly
The ambition to get out has to count for something. Guns and reels have been serviced, this ole guy is waiting on spring. Lol

Road To The Superbowl 2026
Haven't a clue who's going to represent the AFC in the SB but will make for some great playoff matchups. I said GB from the NFC and sticking with it.

Road To The Superbowl 2026
Let's see, OSU losing was somewhat of a surprise but we expect the Browns and Bengals to get mauled weekly 😂

I hooked into a tarpon today
Shouldn't this be moved to " fishing reports " 🧐 😂

Do You Truly KNOW Your Primary Pond Or Lake.......???
I don't have a particular body of water that I'd call home. Fish probably 15-20 different lakes per year. The ones that I've fished many times and had success, I'll go back to the same spots throwing the same baits. No, I do not truly know any body of water but when I'm on one, I'm truly having fun.

What are your 2026 fishing goals?
I've already started my goal. Just yesterday I've reduced the amount of inventory I plan to carry in 2026.

Standby generators
Guess it depends on how much you want to spend. I mauled over it and decided I really didn't need the whole house generator. We live in the mountains in a 4600 sq ft home and lose power semi often. What I did that has worked well for us is simply run a a couple of 12 ga wires from the panel box with plug-ins on the items I want to run. Runs all the frig/freezers and the pumps to the outside wood boiler. We also have gas stove and 2 sets of gas logs. A 5000 watt portable for a couple hundred does the Job. Runs 24 hours on a gallon of fuel on eco mode. A guess the bigger question would be, Does the entire house need to be supplied with power during an outage ❓ The longest we've gone without power was 48 hrs.

water pump
I run water through the impeller once per month in the off season and by doing so, can go 5 years. Certainly not saying that you shouldn't follow manufacturer recommendations but the 3 year recommendation is for worst case scenario........salt water, stained water with sediment. Impellers dry out and crack when sitting for long periods.

Yeah I'm thinking an excavator would have been a better career path. 😁

Road To The Superbowl 2026
AFC and NFC is wide open, anything could happen. My take so far " don't get mad " , NE has had the easiest schedule in NFL history. Hop off the Cowboy's train..... they have Dak. Lamar ain't all that. Rodgers is washed. Green Bay is going to the SB. AFC better not let Mahomes and Reed get in.

Bass Fighting Tips
I can only echo what has been mentioned..... that side pressure will lose less fish than upward pressure during the fight. Lost 2 big fish this past year that swam directly under the boat and all I was left with was a vertical fight. An other consideration is the position of fisherman " woman " . From a seated position, range of motion is limited vs standing and height of gunwales can also be a factor.
