Man befriends Smallmouth Bass on a dive. The two are inseparable.
Cool video, thanks for sharing. The south fork of the Shenandoah river is very popular for kayaking. On Sunday after church a bunch of us go and stop at the same place and swim. Whenever you walk around the Smallmouth swarm your feet for all the critters you kick up.

VMC Crossover rings?
I use them exclusively. Size is somewhat of an after thought as they stretch quite well so I order small. #6 for Senkos and #3 for Jackal flickShake.

Dwight Hottle and A-Jay aren't the best fishers!
We have a 7 acre farm pond that got whiped out by otters...... they gotta rank up there.

What is your sunscreen of choice.?
All my deficiencies were brought forth well before the use of Sunscreen. But yes, I've seen studies that echo what you posted.

Jerkbait Question
Another Jerkbait that I actually do better with vs a top water Jerkbait is the Rapala Rip-Stop. It runs just under the surface and very erratic, like throwing it in the morning.

What is your sunscreen of choice.?
Once it gets warm I wear shorts, crocks and a sleeveless shirt while fishing, slap on some Banana Boat before I leave the house. I believe it's SPF 30.

How far will you travel for a 1 day fishing trip?
The wife and I camp at various lakes in VA/WV and stay for a week at a time, 4 hour drive 1 way. I'll take the boat down couple days before and fish for several hours and then leave the boat and come back home. After our week long trip, I bring the wife home pulling the camper and next morning have to run back down and get the boat but fish again for several hours. It's a tremendous amount of driving and you may ask " why don't you let the wife tow the boat ? Simple answer: I've been with this sweet woman for almost 40 years and she could tear up a digging iron. I refuse to set her up for failure.

Any hockey fans?
Obviously I had the Bruins cruising to a title and after the upset, had the Leaf's cruising to a title. Panthers must be for real ?

What is your most productive technique right now?
Ha Ha a thread like this can go on forever. I threw all my normal confidence baits yesterday on a very deep clear lake " Philpott " and was looking a skunk in the eyes. Tied on a 1/8 Shaky head with a Zoom speed craw and it was like turning on a light switch. So back to the thread title " right now ", It's Shaky head. Lol

Favorite soft plastic lizard
Been using Zoom lizards myself for many years...... cotton candy chartreuse.

“Clean up” bait
I'm not so sure about " moving to another area ". Some of the smaller lakes I fish I'll keep coming back to the same area over and over, places I consistently catch fish. Follow up baits has been a term used for a long time. It has always been a slower presentation like a plastic worm around here.

i miss my wife. haha
The wife travels quite a bit for work and if I like the location I'll go along. Many times I stay behind with the dog and straight to water we go. Lol We're both very independent and a simple text goodnight is all that's required. She's going to Huntington Beach California for a week in July...... I'll definitely be fishing on the east coast that week. ?

New to crappie fishing.. HELP!!!
Crappie are fairly aggressive but agree, as a dedicated rod reel throwing little chartreuse jigs, light tackle is the way to go. BUT I catch them on Spinnerbaits and even weightless senkos while bass fishing. Lol

Clear Water Is A Challenge
Most of the lakes I fish are gin clear. Definitely better fishing on overcast sky. I approach every lake the same as the fish become more active. Top water early " buzzbait/WP " and continue from there with moving baits. Square bills no rattles, single Colorado blade Spinnerbait especially in a breeze, 3" Keitech alone and with 1/8 underspin, Rapala Rip-Stop. Then I put the brakes on with a Drop-shot , my #1 clear water bait. Jackal flickShake wacky rigged , Ned rig, Mojo rig, weightless Senko, Keitech easy shiner on a 1/16 head. If I can't catch a fish with that lineup I go home and watch Whoopi Goldberg.

Wife fishing
My wife only pan fishes but loves being on the water with a book while I'm chasing Bass. She's very low maintenance..... thankfully.
- What has rapala done?
-
She did it!
A very proud mom and Dad, congrats ?
-
Hip Problem ?
The lack of pain is surprising....... thankfully? Everyone over 60 on the wife's side of the family has had successful hip surgery/replacement with stellar results. Wife will be next very soon. Get that checked out, likely an easier fix then you may think.

Transom Savers - New Video
I've drawn one strap way tighter on one side in hopes of equalizing boat position on trailer during travel, never works. Best to take your time and do it right while loading...... lesson learned.

Great video Glenn and love the enthusiasm.

Dragging vs. Slow Lift and Drop for Winter and Early Spring Jig Fishing?
I had an epic day last April, the 4th to be exact and again this year on the 4th of April, crazy....... according to wife's FB. Simply swimming a 3/8 swim jig slowly through and over cover. I don't pick up and drop many baits at all, would rather drag.
-
Ever had a day like this?
Quite the story and glad you weathered the storm. If the grill was abandoned then it became fair game and what you didn't eat went to waste.
-
Well come to find out!
When I'm on the boat, phone goes in a Pelican 1040 phone case, water tight and it floats. Thinking I'm still on a Galaxy S7. The worst thing that could happen is loosing a phone over board and not having your contacts backed up. A few people I've not heard from in 3 years because I won't answer a non contact. Oooops
-
Lake with only one type of cover?
Can't think of better structure than wood. Spinnerbaits and Keitechs on an underspin might be how I'd approach active fish first. I've fished almost every sizable lake in VA, this sounds like Briery creek. ?

WOW. my fishing skills atrophied over the long winter!!!
What you experienced is not that uncommon for a first trip after a long winter...... working the rust off.
