I know, I know, @PhishLI, I'm spoiled. What's weird was I hooked a bass on Wednesday and it was on like Kong. I hooked this morning's bass and I swore I heard them say, "Meh."

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Well looks like it’s time to close the book on this season and start living vicariously through our brethren in warmer climes.

Caught this guy yesterday but lost another one that was big enough to straighten out the the treble hook on my jerkbait.

Today was more of the same had two come off my paddle tail, one was a dink the other was not.

It’s been a heck of a ride and I’m excited to apply lessons learned to next season.

That was the Kraken. You got lucky. Say, you look like Jeremy Renner, aka Hawkeye.

@ol'crickety, if you go again, you might oughta try pitching a jig or trig into that shallow brush on the sunny side of the pond. It's my #1 fall pattern. You can't fish too shallow. The 3.5# I caught the other day was in a tree limb with barely enough water to cover it's back. Sunny late morning through afternoon is prime time for this.

@T-Billy: I plan to do vertical fishing next year. I've been listening to you and was especially persuaded by your explaining how I'll have more control over a vertically-hooked bass.

If you haven't tried out the Thunderhawk Sergeant lipless, give it a shot! This 3lb 4oz bass was the first of the evening and T boned it.

If I were that handy with a bow I’d probably have another hobby 😆

Caught this guy hanging out in a brushpile with a bunch of crappie - got me thinking I might need to try tossing an underspin or similar around a few more of these crappie holes to see what else might bite. Also got a handful of smaller bass in some really shallow vegetation of some sort, so hoping to expand on that pattern next trip out, too.

those little underspins just produce.
Lake Ray Roberts has continued to rise. I blanked at my usual walking bait spot but the weather and water is different than it's been. I decided to take my shoes off and go wading since only the top 6" of water is warm. They were around and snackin, but no swipes, nothing today. A strong front rolled through earlier and dropped temps 20-30 degrees so I will probably wait until tomorrow afternoon to go fish again. Might be tempted to throw a 110...

We on third Summer here.  It's in the 80's as I type this.  I thought I was really going to catch them today.  I launched my boat at 7, and caught four before 8.  That was it for bass.  I caught a couple White Perch (no pictured) and a fairly decent sized Blue Cat.  I thought the Cat was a WHALE.  It was hooked in the tail.  I'd guess it to be 10 to 15 pounds.  I took my pliers and shook it off next to the boat so I didn't have to deal with the slime.   2 bass were on a bladed jig, the other 2 on a shakey head.  Cat and perch were on cranks.  The bass weren't big but at least none were tiny.  The one bleeding in the picture was hooked in the tongue with a bladed jig.  I suspect it survived just fine.

I caught 6 Bass and 1 Yellow Perch today.  (I'll post the perch in other species thread, it wasn't big)  It took me an hour to get the skunk out of the boat.  I was getting short strikes, and lost a couple Bass.  The last one I lost was decent, maybe 3 lbs.  I got it to the boat and was getting ready to lip it.  It was barely hooked in the top of it's mouth.....just a little flap of skin.   After that I cut an inch or so off my Bladed Jig trailer.  I didn't lose any more.   5 Bass came on a Seibert Bladed jig, with a cut down Manns Classic Spinner.  The other Bass came on a shakey head.  Perch was on a crank.   I'm pretty sure the 2nd Bass was a Largemouth/Spot hybrid.  They aren't as common as Meanmouth bass but it does happen.  It had a Largemouth mouth, same size cheek scales as the rest of it's body, but a Spot dorsal, and a flat Spot tongue with a tooth patch, instead of an oval, slick LM tongue.  The last one will be my last Bass on October 2023.  (unless they cancel work tomorrow or Tuesday  LOL)

With my brother headed to Texas in 2 weeks for some big bass hunting, yesterday might've been our last Jon boat trip of the season. Who knows what the weather will be in a month or two weeks afterward. I can easily imagine it knocking us out of our bi-monthly trip both times as it has several times most recently. With that, we just had to hit it even though a full-full moon would be beaming down over dead flat water. It was, and it went badly for quite a few hours. Not a sniff.

45 acres might not sound like much, but when you're forced to row through endless-battery killing-topped out pondweed time goes by quickly. We simply couldn't find very small baitfish grouped up in any of the shallow areas we worked through. Not until the end anyway, and not until we paddled all the way up north into an ultra-shallow flat only 1-2 feet deep. By that point we both could've used a chiropractor, but we buckled down and started working. By some miracle wind blew in from the north, puffy clouds softened the moon's glow, and the bite finally turned on a bit. Had a few just slurp and shake off, then I got a good one to commit on a small wake.

The wind turned off as quickly as it turned on, and so did the bite. I really wanted to my brother to hookup, but his back was seized by that point. He was happy enough with our boat beating the skunk, so we called it a win and bounced.

@Woody B, my car needs fixed get back to work………

If I didn't have to work I could come there and fix your car......then we could go fishing.

I fished with my son on Saturday.  Sadly, I missed a couple beautiful days during the week and Saturday was post cold front and windy.  We fished everywhere from the bank to 20ft. of water, even finding some fairly green weeds on a few spots.  I caught two largemouth about 1.5-2# and a couple small pike, my son only a few small pike.  That’s probably it for our season, unless the weather next Saturday is fantastic I’ll be winterizing the boat.😢

@PhishLI: Gorgeous bass and made even more beautiful by the tough, tough fishing conditions. Please let us know how your brother does in Texas.

@The Baron: My great love of Ontario has me sad that you're done for the year. Oh, Canada. Sigh.

I like big bass and I cannot lie.

Huge cold front hit and our temps dropped down into the high 30's with 10-15mph north winds and off and on rain Saturday, beautiful fishing weather if you ask me. I was hoping they'd eat the big balsa crank, and my first bite didn't disappoint.

19" and a touch over 5lbs. I wouldn't see another that big all day, but I did catch a bunch more with some quality players in the mix.

This guy had found a great place to hide from the bow hunters.
