Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Russ, your biggest bass sure looks healthy. Thanks for showing us where you caught them too!

Was supposed to be a day of chasing striper but they didn't want to play so pretty quickly became a bass fishing trip. All fish again on a flashy swimmer.

Thanks, but he was one step from malnourished!

Hopefully gets nice and fat here soon, hope you get a chance at it again once it's had a few good meals. Most of the bass here are starting to fill out nicely, but still getting a few that haven't seemed to be on that hardcore feeding pattern yet. The bigger one I got earlier in the week still had a lot of belly left to gain for the winter/spawn.

I have a chart that  shows how much the fish should weigh for it’s length . 2 fish I checked the other day were 85% and 90% ideal weight for the length. I forgot to do it on this fish but he  was much less.

What a coincidence ~

I have a scale that does the same thing.

The chart tells what it SHOULD weigh if it is it’s ideal weight for the length.

The scale tells you the real weight, not the ideal weight for its length.

The ideal weight for it's length ?

In my world the shorter the and heavier the bass is, the better.

I wonder if I am the ideal weight for my length ?

I fished Presa Corinches for two days.  I landed 10 total bass, with 4.5 pounds being the biggest.  I always struggle at this lake.  My best spot is a concrete block next to a barb wire fence.  This picture was taken in May when the water is low.  This cover is now 15 feet under water.  I hooked a couple nice bass, here but hooking them in this cover and landing them can be difficult.  Best bite is on crankbaits, but I try to catch them on a T Rig before attempting to work my crankbaits around the fence without getting snagged.  I did manage to land 5 bass, and only lose a few baits.

Got to a spot near the house after work last night at 5:20, with about 50 minutes of daylight left (thanks, DST…..)

My buddy got a nice 19” SMB and another short fat one , I avoided skunk with a small LM. Had to fish a bit into the dark  just to make it worth hooking the boat up 😂

Thankfully the TN river was back to normal color the fish seem to have weathered the flood, took a little over a month to rebound

That’s astonishing changes in water levels. Is it solely from rain or is there some kind of dam/river control?

There is a dam, but it has no flood gates, or hydro electric generators.  When the reservoir gets full the water flows over the top.  The area gets zero rain from around the first of Nov. to the first of July.  Then it rains almost every day, with thunder storms in the evenings, that can dump over an inch of rain in less than an hour.  The lakes in this region, fluctuate 50 to 80 feet from low water in June to full pool in October.  Water level, and clarity determine the location of the bass far more than water temperature. The surface temp. never gets below 60 degrees, or above 80 degrees, and is between 65 and 75 most of the year.  The bass do like the many flooded fence lines.  My guess is they use the fence line to travel from deep to shallow water, or maybe they simply enjoy cutting anglers line off on the wire.  Whatever the reason, I am forced to spend a lot of my fishing time casting to these lure eating fences.  The Bait Monkey wants me to try casting glide baits for the bass in this lake.  The Monkey and I are good friends, but I don't ever see myself casting an expensive bait anywhere near this area.  Just to make sure I never do, I wont even purchase a glide bait.

The Mayor came through on election night. I think I am geeking out on Crush City products. I love this swimbait. It's like a mini magdraft.

I drove by my neighborhood pond at lunch and saw the wind pushing everything up against the rip rap like it had been for 4 straight days. I suspected the bass were stacked up there so I hit it up after work and they were. Had a limit in 15 minutes and kept going for another 30 minutes.

Also the time change is always awful.

Small keepers are better than no keepers 🤣 at least in my book. All on crankbaits again. Cool bonus fish was a blacknose crappie. Water still needs to cool down more to fire the bite up, I think.

Another football caught with The Mayor. Need to dump this Boxer Jig.  After three fish it the bait slips and won't hold in place. Probably going to give the VMC Hybrid Swimbait Jig a shot next.

My Mayors don't last long for me too, but with my VMC Heavy Duty underspins, I squeeze out more than three bass.

@Pumpkinseed Lizard: I also had good luck at the end of this season with the Yamamoto Zako in Chartreuse Shad Laminate, but lawdy, it's a three bass and done bait. So soft.

The bass haven't been fired up when I'm there, but they're still around and somewhat willing.  A few highlights;

2.75" tube; 1/2oz jig, and 1/2oz finesse scrounger did the work.
