I think my brother caught a couple, I got zilch in the firehole and Madison river. In my defense, I was 12 years old and had started fly fishing a few days before

i got a fly rod, but I’m bringing a telescopic casting rod, just in case the fly fishing doesn’t work out. I have never fly fished. I still have to get out and practice. Not sure if it’s worth it to fly fish. A lot of people are using spinners.

I’ve been a fly fishing instructor since ‘07 and I prefer throwing spinners haha

Fly fishing is overrated. Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

If you want to get really frustrated, fly fish.  Everything that can go wrong, does.  You line gets wrapped on everything.  

Also, fly line gets stuck on everything.   You wouldn't think it would, being super big around.

 

But when everything comes together right, there is nothing better!

That’s what I’m after. Big rainbows. Because I caught them when I was a kid, but the biggest ones were about 6 inches.

Caught that on a nymph not much bigger than my pinky finger nail.

The ones they stock in the lakes here eat trout like that. I use to target them, but the big ones seem to eat bass baits better, so they just became a bycatch instead. They're almost a nuisance at times. Usually get them on 110 sized jerkbaits, this one on a 3/8oz bladed jig this spring was a first.

My buddy went back to back cast on these 2 with a Duo 110. He's a big boy that normally makes fish look small.

 

@Bluebasser86 that’s what I need. Actually, those are bigger than I expect to catch.

Talk about a delicious problem!  That’s awesome!! 

Somebody said “use a big worm!”, so I took that for action. Stopped by Academy on the way  home and picked up some Zoom  Mag O Monster 12” worms in Red Shad. Bought a pack of Gammy 5/0 EWG’s to use on ‘em. Well, I was there, and tried to be (semi) frugal. Picked up some 4” Rage Menace in green pumpkin for jig trailers, some new Gammy 3/0 EWG’s and a H2O Hard Jointed Sunfish swimbait in Bluegill. 

 

I’ve been wanting a Gantarel for awhile now and the monkey twisted my arm today til I laid out the cash. Bought it at 5pm and had it wet by 7! No takes today but impressed with what I saw. I almost thought it suspended but it is an extremely slow riser. Looks amazing. I am so impressed with its many actions I am ready to buy a couple of the bluegill patterns. And oh yea 3 more packs of Liz-Zards lol

What rod are you planning on throwing it on? I've been using a 6' 10" MH but even that feels underpowered.

Plan on using one of the  G Loomis Escape Travel rods; Which I love btw.

Either the MH or the H - both are only 6'9" so that's good.

These blanks are a 'fiber-blend' and fish a little past their 'rating' IMO.

20 lb Tastsu and we're done.

The LC 128 has been a solid producer there but not on any DD fish.

Hoping these can trigger something in that category.

If it happens, there could be some 'footage'

as well as a pic which you can expect to be way too close to the camera lens.

Went to an antique store on the way back from Branson.  Buddies where looking for vintage gas pumps, and I was along for the ride.  Swaver 168 for $8.   Manns tail dragger for $3, already caught 3-4 fish.  Got some albino flukes, some paddle tails and some ballhead jigs for $1.  Also got an anchor for the yak.

The Bait Monkey met up with me in Alaska.  I had some tackle shipped to a friend in Anchorage.  I picked it up on my way through town, and put it in my luggage on the return flight to Mexico.  Long way around to get lures, but whatever it takes to make the Bait Monkey happy.

Sold a high dollar custom surf rod i wont be needing after my move to NC, SO I Picked up a couple new rods and reels this month. LEWs Carbon Fire, Lews Tournament MP (Holy cow its nice) Daiwa Fuego, Shimano Sahara 2500 for drop shotting... then rods to match them, couple of different Lews CF rods (I really like their CF line, a shame only one place sells them) and a Tsunami Scaletech ML/F for the drop shot rig. Fantastic rods for $60.

Finally got me one of these high dollar Storm swimbaits ?

Picked up a couple Megabass 6" Magdraft Freestyles and paired them with some Owner 6/0 beast hooks.  Hope to get my PB with one this week.
