Tomorrow is my first day off in almost 2 months and I'm heading out early on my kayak. With fishing on my mind and being a bit bored (dangerous combo) I was surfing the TW website.

 

Then I saw it - the Expride B I wanted was in stock (I already have an Expride A that I love) so I snatched it up. Then the floodgates opened a bit more. I ended up adding a Booyah Moon Talker spinner bait, a WE Screamin Eagle spinnerbait, a Jackall Spybait, some hooks, and a couple of packs of Z-Man Pro Crawz. Qualified for the free t-shirt and sticker as well.

 

Now I'm on a roll. Time to look for a Father's Day sale on a Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G4!

Ordered a JDM Megabass ONETEN STICK because I wanted to try a shorter jerkbait rod.  A few days later I was speaking with someone who had a new 895 NRX+ that got delayed through the expeditor program.  He got tired of waiting and bought another and said he would take $300 for the replacement.  I couldn’t resist.

I've never seen that. Pretty cool, but I always thought of a jitterbug as being an insect skittering across the water. I guess maybe in some parts of the country lizards might do that, I've never seen it here. But that thing looks like it's designed to look like a snake, and I've never seen a bass hit a snake. I'm sure it happens, but I fish one area has lots of water snakes and schools of bass come into that spot and feed on shad (the snakes feed on the shad that jump up on the rip-rap). Anyway, the snakes swim around all the time and I've never seen one get chomped.

 

Anyway, I'd like to hear if you have luck with it if you rig it like that.

I will let you know if I have any luck with it, it’s supposed to mimic a snake in reality that how they designed it, the 9” needle worms are supposed to be used with it. But my mind went straight to toads for some reason lol. I am thinking about trying some rage tail anacondas on it also.

Just like any other bait there's a time and place for it. If you pick some up make sure to get (L) Large size Owner CPS screw locks. The stock one sucks and will core out the bait. Sometimes after one fish. The Large Owner stays put. Its heavy gauge hook is nearly identical to an Owner Beast 6/0, so you'll need a rod with some backbone to set it.

 

The junk stock keeper is shown on the bottom

Interesting, I haven't had any trouble with their hooks.  Granted, I don't catch fish the same size as you lol

The hook is just fine. Perhaps a bit over kill for the bait's size, but there's nothing wrong with it. The screw lock spring keeper that comes with the hook is what I've had issues with. Its diameter is too small for such a heavy wire hook. If the equivalent Owner Beast hook, shown in the top of the photo, came with Owner's standard small keeper it would be problematic too. There's a lot of leverage placed on the hook's eye when the bait is fully collapsed by a hard bite. Something's gotta give. An aggressive 3 lber cored the first one out. It was fixed with Mend-it, got the Owner large keeper, and it's held up since then.

 

If what I've described occurs with yours, save the cored out plastic from the spring keeper. You can glue it back into the plastic, then just upgrade to the large keeper, and you'll get way more use from the bait.

What rod are you using for the baits?  Thanks for the heads up on the hooks.

A true 5+ power heavy. The hook is like a 6d finishing nail with a point. It requires backbone.

I am thinking of throwing those on a Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch.  I have been throwing Dark Sleepers on it and it has been terrific so far.  I picked up a few of the Megabass Sleeper Gills last week so I think they are very similar to the Savage gill.

If you feel it'll drive home an extra heavy flipping flipping hook then you're good.

Nowhere local to me, but we have a few natural lakes 70 miles east of here that have the depth. At least one private spot is spring fed and has an outlet stream to the salt that allows alewife to migrate into it to spawn. I don't get out there much, but when I do I'll be ready. BTW, this crank is absurdly huge. I should've read the fine print more closely.

Anybody know if TW have any sale on father’s day?

The wife got me one as a stocking stuffer.  Absurdly huge describes it well.  Literally a palm sized crank.

Look what came in the mail today…

I'm so weak. Ordered eight of the new Mepps, "Bronze Slammer" inline spinners. Four different colors, two each, all 1/4 oz. Heading to the Buffalo River in north Arkansas in late July, gonna give them a go.

My recent travels had me thinking about a new travel setup that could pack down super small, but still fish close to a one piece. Also I’ve been very into finesse and BFS fishing this year. So for that I ordered  a new “power BFS” travel setup. While this isn’t truly a BFS setup, it will still easily sling ned rigs and micro jigs around which have been some of my go to’s this year.
