Well… the currency exchange rate got another victim.

I picked this Excense up from Asian Portal Fishing the other week. Then the bait monkey whispered into my ear again last night in a moment of weakness saying “wouldn’t it be sweet throwing jerkbaits on a smooth new Zillion with a clicking drag for catching some fall smallies in Sturgeon Bay?” Soon after JLS had my order. I’m looking forward to the mystery gift!

The deals are too good to pass up!

How is that reel?? Not sure if you have gotten a chance to use it but is it everything it’s said to be? Might have to grab one I “accidentally” ordered a new 7’3 M Victory and those Asian portal prices are wayyy too good to pass on ?.

So far I really like it. It’s buttery smooth, casts well, has a really good drag. Plus, I mean it’s sexy as hell! I’d recommend it

Got me a couple fast sink Burritos

Screenshot_20220929-185800_Gallery.jpg

I just had my largest single order…ever? Omnia 25% off sale is about as good as it gets. I bought a Tatula SV 8.1, Tatula Elite 8.1, Tatula Spinning 7’3 Medium Extra Fast, and….this next one was a complete bait monkey want and not a need…Expride B 7’6 MH Moderate Fast. I’ve heard SO much amazing feedback on Exprides that this felt like a deal I couldn’t pass on. $290 regular and it was $217 out the door.

I’m not 100% sure what technique I will use the Expride. I need to see how the action truly behaves. I kind of expect it can be a “do it all” type setup. I’d like to be able to do some bottom contact Trigs and such but also some moving baits like swim jigs and paddle tails. I am 6’4 so I don’t think the length will be too difficult to handle albeit this is the longest rod I’ve ever purchased. Planning to pair with Tatula Elite. Thoughts on applications?

Grabbed this Shimano GLF casting rod at Academy. A couple of weeks ago this $89.99 rod was marked down to $49.99. Today it was marked down to... $17.49.

Didn't need it but I couldn't pass it up at this price. I'll find a use for it.

I bought an SLX at 50% off, then went in there two weeks ago and they were down to 30 something.....bet if they still have some they are like what you paid.    Basically, free rods at that point.   I just spent more money on two Chatterbait Mini Maxs than you did for a really nice rod.

Yeah, I saw that SLX deal too. I went in today looking to see if they still had any (they didn't) but when this GLF scanned at $17.49 I couldn't pass it up.

Haven't posted on here in a long while. Figured I better owe up to what I ordered this past week. Got plenty of A-rig equipment to last for this fall and spring. Some spinnerbaits for my buddy. Topwaters and flukes for the College MLF event on Lake of the Ozarks in 2 weeks. Also got some swimbaits a month or so ago which take a toll on the tackle budget. Overall some great stuff and I am excited for some cold water fishing.

Let us know how you do in the tournament! They like flukes this time of year? That's alot of nice swimbaits I would love to use but if flukes catch the fish then that's what matters!

Thanks I sure will! Planning to be there for 4 practice days with a GoPro to get some footage for the team. May be doing something special with those flukes which I’ll post about after…

That's a fantastic deal. I need to stop by Academy again....

Nope. I’ll let you know how it works. Plan to use it primarily on missed blowups once the fish reveal themselves cuz we will be fishing fast. Looks great from what I’ve seen.

Hey Fishtank, did you find the HD balanced well with the Super Destroyer? I kept going back and forth on going with that one or just grab a used Steez A on my Madbull.

Look for some JDM Monkey posts coming soon... the sickness is real.

I wanted to come back with some more thoughts on the SD and the Zillion HD.

So far I like the combo but not thrilled with power fishing with the Super Destroyer.  The handle is slick but the rod is powerful, sensitive and most importantly, fun to fish.  With that said, I decided to try something different and I have an NRX+ 895c on the way. I was going to wait but found it at price I couldn't pass up.

I was going to wait until next year but I reached out to one my rod sources and got a NRX+ 895C shipped for $470. I haven't used it yet but it is much lighter feeling that I thought it would be.  I am pairing it with my Zillion HD.

Definitely looking forward to what you think of the new setup especially the rod. I have been looking for one locally but all I ever saw was a glx 855, I really want to get a 895 in the future. That’s definitely a very nice setup for a really decent price.

Cue theme music from “Mission Impossible”…. Gentleman & Ladies, I don’t want to exclude ol’crickety I pulled off the almost impossible trifecta last night, Baits, Beer & Garage Gear ? It was a dangerous mission as I was with the better half (AKA the wife?) when the dreaded monkeys climbed on my back as I entered the local Wal Mart, but I was not to be stopped as I was a man on a mission. I deftly maneuvered the unavoidable “Do you really need any of this” question  by going to the washroom before she could see that I put the jigs and tape measure under the giant box of taquitos for my son and his friends coming by for dinner tonight, and I used the “I’ll scan” the giant roll of toilet paper and paper towels where I sneakily placed my 12 pack of beer on the bottom of the cart?. Yes it was a dangerous mission  but I pulled it off and I’m proud to say I’m ready and willing to try it again with crank baits and maybe just maybe soft plastics next time, wish me luck or send detailed plans on how to pull off my next mission ????

How is the balance on that particular model. I had a GLX 895 that I sold off it was WAY too tip heavy…

I am still trying to evaluate it but so far it's not too bad. It can handle flipping and pitching well and regular casting is great as long as you stick with the rods sweet spot (around 1/2-3/4oz). Sensitivity is what you would expect of any NRX+ but it is powerful and it maybe too powerful for the 4lb (if I'm lucky) and under bass I mostly catch.  I have only caught one fish with it and I about took its head off.

My thoughts on this are kind of mixed in general with idea of rods being tip heavy. I have tried/bought/picked up several rods that I hear others claim are tip heavy and I don't always see it that way. I think it comes down to what you are use to and your expectations.  If you put on a 1/2oz or heavier jig with a heavy trailer (beaver for example), any stout rod it is going to feel tip heavy with a reel that weighs around 6-7oz or less. I feel these rods are more designed to pull fish from heavy cover. If you expect it to feel like a 7' MH or H Fast rod, I don't think you will ever get the same balance with an X-Heavy or some Heavy rods for that mater.

If you really want to confuse things, ask me later how it compares to the 904C NRX+ I bought earlier this year. I am still trying to sort this one out myself.

Cracking Up Lol GIF by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

I just about spit coffee all over my phone screen?

I'm not one to start threads and even when I do usually there will be one or two responses because you know like I really can't think of anything interesting or intelligent to ask about .

So I respond to others in threads and this particular thread about the Invasive Monkey of Bait Acquisition and Ownership (IMBAO) which is really fun to read because we all are affected in one way or another by this rascal.

This year I decided to step back from the various activities that consume my free time and just do a few things that in theory would not cost a lot of money (Ha Ha) and try to figure out exactly what do I really want to do with my time and recreation bux and so I simply discontinued for the year several very expensive and time consuming hobbies and thought it time to revive my fishing habit which had been dormant for about 4 years. In my mind there is an advantage here because my spouse and I can do this together (another Ha Ha).

I spent about 6 weeks getting the SS Minnow back into ship shape and going through all my fishing gear and tackle. I have a couple fishing rods and reels I don't even remember getting them or for what purpose and so much baits and lures and stuff, stuff I forget how to actually rig up.

So yeah I want to lay victim to this IMBAO thingy because it's like a lot of fun but I think there is a market for therapies for memory enhancement and improvement so that I can figure out what this particular unit of tackle is for , Anyone else feel the same or see the need?

First off don’t let the monkey hear you talking like that. There is always a need for new stuff that both you and the wife will need to try?. As far as knowing what your current gear would be good for I’m sure if you list what you have you’ll find plenty of help on here as far as putting it to good use. Good luck
