Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Featured Replies

d**n the bait monkey really got me a year or so ago; I bought a crazy amount of rods reels and baits, well over 500-600 bucks. I kinda regret it now lol.

Had to replenish my swim jig supply. If you guys fish Midwest style swim jigs check out Brovarney’s. I’ve used his jigs for years and caught tons of fish on them.

Sexy Shad is a staple in my boxes - whether it's a jig, chatterbait or spinner bait.

It's here...it's here. Ordered Sunday eve, shipped Monday late afternoon, got here 1:30 this afternoon

Gotta love it when a used/excellent condition one is only $143 with tax
Gone through it - can't find a blemish or anything anywhere on it...basically like new.

I should probably give these a try, since they are based out of WI and all. Hand-tied, Gammy hook, good price.

Not sure I'm loving the angle of the weed guard tho.

It's a pretty thin weedguard and not super stiff, not sure if that's why they're angled like that or not. I've honestly never noticed until you pointed it out.

Also it's a bit hard to tell in pics but the inside part of the skirt is trimmed away so it's just the outside strands, which gives them an awesome flare in the water.

The monkey and some nice sales really did a number on me the past couple weeks… not pictured a nrx+ 843mbr that’s being delivered tomorrow to pair with the zillion.

Will be curious to hear how much backbone this has. I have the MHM 7'2" and it didn't have enough backbone for the purpose I bought it for. Love the rod though and it is always in the boat. If this has a lot of backbone I may pick one up. Purpose is spinnerbaits in dense reeds and need to control the fish so I don't get wrapped around a reed.

It'll be next year before it gets used...this year's a wash because of things going on.

Ya...spinners, chatters, small hard swimbaits (Bucca Gill/Shad, etc) are the target lures for this and it'll be getting my Patriarch 7.9 (32-IPT) mounted.

So the irony is not lost on me with this post. I still hate the price of the Edge boxes, but here we go with my fifth edge box. The 3700 flex was as cheap as I have seen it at TW and it will work perfectly for my spinnerbait build box. Will set up a compartment for the frames and if my components and skirts fit in there like I think they will, I will make a compartment for the tools to make them. Will wrap the tools in something to keep the from damaging the box when it gets bounced around.

That purple haze skirt color has been a hot one for me and smoke purple skirt material did well on a bait I made for my father in law. The other two colors are time will tell.

Good luck with that new Victory. I have not handled the casting models yet. When I retired a few months back two of my coworkers bought me the Victory VTS73MXF. I’m use to being able to having my grip at the reel seat and having my index finger touch the blank. The cork fore grip is longer than normal and doesn’t allow me to do this. At first I thought this rod was gonna be a bust with me. But I’ve been fishing my soft plastics exclusively for more than a month+ with it. I love it now. When landing a fish my hand shifts forward to the fore grip and actually gives me better control when landing fish and the longer butt section lays against my fore arm better. The rod is probably designed to be fished this way. I knew no better at first. SC labels it as a “Max Tactical”, whatever that means? I’m fishing smaller plastics with it now but next season I’ll use it for larger stick baits and worms. Hope you like yours, I love mine nowadays.

Made a trip to Cabela's on Monday to get some hunting licenses.  I also needed to replace some skirts on my chatterbaits and spinnerbaits because the pike assault has been very destructive lately.

The bait monkey doesn't have the hold on me that he maybe used to, but I did do a small bit of shopping the other day that's just come in.

Never heard of that company before, but that mule minnow 3.2 sounds fantastic for a MiniMax trailer.

Check out “Fish Anything” on you tube. The guy is the owner of “mule jigs” and his content is pretty cool.

It's Ethan from Online Outdoorsman Fish Anything's little lure and jighead company. The Donkey Tail is my problem solver*, and I wanted to try the Jr. version for panfish. I haven't tried the minnow before, but I do a lot of fishing with short straight tail worms on the river, and thought it'd be a fun pickup.

Check 'em out.

*That specific lure, on a trip with @TnRiver46 during a white bass run is what put a boat in my driveway. SWMBO looked at me halfway through the trip and said "We should get a boat!"

Excellent gents, I will check him and these 3.2 models out.     Thanks for the info.

It's well packaged stuff, which we all know is critical to the Tackle Monkey...it has to catch the monkey before it can catch a Bass ?

Are those things any more durable than a standard skirt?  I have a feeling a skirt is going to get shredded by pike teeth regardless of the brand.

If you ever find yourself using a dropshot, the minnow would be a banger.

Mommy, make the Chatterbait monkey stop.....please mommy!!!!!!!!!!

The Keitech 4" are a big no go on MiniMaxs FWIW.     3" Paddletails work, but a swim tail is best I'm finding.

Anybody ever bother sending a single bait back to TW?   The CFL Football head model arrived with it's head chipped in 4 or 5 different places.    Not sure I want to go through the hassle for $5.

One other thing, finally got around to getting a few JackHammers and to my surprise just like every other Chatterbait branded product I've bought which is seemingly all of them.....Made in China appears on the back.    China can make quality stuff, but I want USA or Japan for the price these commanded.   Oh well, if they work 3x better than the other models I currently use, I'll keep buying them.

Odds are if you send them an email with a pic they'll just send you a replacement for free.
