Haha, thanks. We got super lucky with timing here when we bought a couple years ago. 25 acres of mostly field, with a river full of bass that runs right through the middle of it, that’s only accessible by kayak from other nearby private lands. We built the greenhouse last fall and I had a second driveway added to the barn ( which I’ve turned into a workshop), built the lean to for the boat and the raised garden beds. Dead end road with about ten other seasonal cottages on it so there’s almost no traffic all year. We really are blessed with what we have, and those sunsets remind us of it every day.

Sounds like a slice of heaven on earth.

You could see all the individual ridges/drains to the left on Sunday morning before the humidity and pollen got up into the air

Kind of, it’s more the Cherokee national forest but they are very close to each other. Same mtns different name, that’s looking just slightly south of the border of the great smoky mtns national park so I think most of it would be the Cherokee national forest. My buddies are camping up there now hunting turkeys

Gotcha. That’s cool. I’ll be heading to the Smoky Mountain National Park next June for a solo road/backpacking trip.

Holler if you need some pointers! I’ve done some backpacking but my friends have done it all. Several of them just completed their 900 miles, which is all of the hiking trails on the national park

Will do. Gonna be fishing a lot as well. I’m only reading about trout, but there has to be a river somewhere in the smoky mountains that has smallmouth. I may be going with fly gear only though. I have a lot of practicing to do, I have exactly 2 fish on the fly in my whole life haha

Fontana lake, chilhowee lake, and abrams creek are the only bass waters I can think of in the park (and the lakes are on the border). You can also catch a few tiny smallies here and there on little river, west prong and middle prong little pigeon river, oconoluftee river, and maybe deep creek.  The big pigeon is excellent smallmouth fishing but I guess it’s outside the park a bit .

unfortunately you are correct, most fishing inside the park is for silly trout. They are not stockers tho, so they are generally starving to death and will readily hit flies all summer

on the outside edges of the park, the bass possibilities are endless

Love the idea of getting some wild trout on the fly, but I know me and after a couple little trout I’ll be jonesing for that micropterus. Thanks for the insight! I actually do remember reading about the smallmouth fishing in Pigeon River. Maybe I’ll have to venture outside the park to hit that up.

Yeah I know what you mean, I don’t try fish unless I have to. Abrams is full of smallmouth up to the ranger station and a little bit upstream to the campground. Single hook artificial lures only but you can have a barb
